KENNAUGH Thank you to everyone who came in for parent-teacher conferences! We appreciate you partnering with us to ensure your child’s success. Rather than have a concert in the high school auditorium in December, we are moving the event to February 25 th  and 26 th . As in the past, we will split our s econd through sixth graders up into two groups, with half performing on the 25 th  and the other half performing on the 26 th . Look for further information to come at a later date, but here are the planned performance nights for each second through sixth grade classroom: 2/25/15 (Wednesday) 2/26/15 (Thursday) VanHoesen Scholten Sydlowski Schueller Fizzel Densmore  Nye Richey Kelly Beach Lutz Hoesl Schuchaskie Parish Dufresne Heaven Kish Our state has seen some changes with regards to assessment procedures. What was once referred to as MEAP (Michigan Education Assessment Program) is now being called M-STEP (Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress). Unlike the MEAP that was a paper-pencil assessment given in the fall, the new M-STEP is a computerized assessment that will be given in the spring of each year for students i n third t hrough eighth grade. All students will continue to be tested in reading and mathematics, with some grades also being tested in science or social studies. Look for further information about M-STEP as the testing window approaches. With the state’s assessment changes, GLPS is also changing some of our assessment practices. So that students are not overwhelmed with testing in the spring, our schools will be administering the NWEA assessment in the fall and winter; we are discontinuing the spring NWEA assessment. As always, if you have any questions or would like to discuss any concerns, please contact me. NO NEWSLETTER NEXT WEEK! Due to the shortened holiday week, we will not have a newsletter. The Beagle staff wishes all of our students and families a very safe and Happy Thanksgiving recess. Mrs. Dawn Kennaugh,  Principa l Next Week at eagle : Tuesday, November 25 – Beagle Beach Day Thanksgiving recess begins on Wednesday, November 26 – Classes resume on Monday, December 1 .  November 21, 2014

Teaching your Kids to be ThankfulThanksgiving is the perfect time to teach your kids

about being thankful. Here are some ideas to teach yourchildren how to appreciate the blessings in their lives.

Thankful Paper ChainOne way to remind your children of their blessings is tocreate a paper chain. This is similar to a regular paperchain – where you cut strips of paper and connect themtogether as loops, but there’s one difference. You write onthe strips of paper before you connect them. Write thethings you are thankful for with your children. Forinstance, “Grandma plays games with me” or “My teacher

is nice.” The fun part of this activity is to make the chainas long as possible – showing all your blessings. If you’dlike to keep this up during Christmas, just use red, greenand white paper.

Thanksgiving TreeThis is another take on the ideaabove and works really well if youhave several kids in the family.Have each child trace their handon yellow, red, or brownconstruction paper. Cut out thehand shapes and write (or have thechild write) what they are thankfulfor on the hand shape. Cut a treetrunk shape out of brown

construction paper. Glue it on a large piece of poster board. Let the kids add their hand shapes as leaves abovethe tree trunk, turning it into a beautiful fall colored tree.

Thankful BookThis idea is similar to the others, except it’s more of akeepsake. Purchase a photo album or scrapbook kit andmake a “blessings” theme. Add photos of loved ones, including stories about why they are special to you. Also, include pages of your favorite foods, favoritestories, favorite movies and all the other things thatmake you happy. Any time your kids feel down, you canopen your blessing book to see all the reasons you haveto be happy – and thankful for the blessings in your life.
