Bearing Wear Monitoring principle

At the bottom dead centre (BDC) the journals of all 3 bearings (main, crank pin and crosshead) are loaded. The inertia forces are downwards looking, no gas force is affecting the system. An instant detection of slowly or emerging bearing wear is carried out, indicated and recorded in the indication panel. A prediction of the remaining lifetime of the bearings is possible at any time.It is also possible to indicate with utmost plausibility which one of the bearing (main, crank pin or crosshead) is affected.

Bearing Wear Monitoring principle

Bearing Distance Monitoring System

The system measures continuously the distance between the crosshead location in the bottom dead centre (BDC) in relation to the engine

relation to the engine frame at 2-stroke Diesel engines by means of 2 sensors per compartment (sensor A and sensor B). The measured values are calculated into real distance values in “mm” by the sensors and stored in an internal memory inside the sensors.

Bearing Wear Monitoring System advantages

Summary Advantages of the BDMS of Dr. E. Horn GmbH

• Easy installation inside the engine, no drilling ne eded; no cable trays needed

• Easy connection of sensors in terminal box, no mix up possible • Intelligent distance sensor with splash oil tempera ture measurement

and oil temperature alarm per compartment and oil temperature alarm per compartment • Main bearing temperature sensors available; also no drilling needed

for installation • Easy integration of water in oil and main bearing t emperature sensors • Open architecture of the system for possible future replacement of OMD • Protection already from engine start • Competitive price • Approved by MAN without separate PC • Well known and proven worldwide supplier of classif ied marine products

with AS network • If customer wants more information LagMon and techn ical management

software including necessary connection material ca n be included in scope of supply
