which he completed in an hour. Within hours, John wrangled musicians and producer, Phil Spector to record the song. It was put to tape later that evening

and the track was released ten days later.

One of George’s most underrated rockers featuring Paul on fuzz bass… Musicians:

George Harrison – lead vocal, lead guitar; Paul McCartney – backing vocal, bass guitar; John Lennon – backing vocal; Ringo Starr – drums, maracas,

tambourine This song was originally called ‘Won’t Be There With You’ but it was a bit of a mouthful so they changed it. It only took one take. Some of the vocal harmonies

The Beatles – If I Fell –AHDN A song John called the precursor to “In My Life”…it has the same chord

progression said John D and B minor and E minor… Flip of And I Love Her in the US

Musicians: John Lennon – joint lead vocal, acoustic rhythm guitar; Paul McCartney – joint

lead vocal, bass guitar; George Harrison – lead guitar; Ringo Starr – drums This was supposedly about one of John’s numerous affairs – but because there’s no love interest in A Hard Day’s Night he ends up singing it to Ringo instead! It marked a further

step in John’s lyrical progression by harping-back to an earlier song – I Want To Hold Your Hand. You can hear him singing: Love is more/Than just holding holds. It was my first attempt at a proper ballad, he said. It was the precursor to In My Life. It has the same

chord sequences: D and B minor and E minor, those kind of things. Lead vocal John and Paul

The Beatles – And I Love Her – AHDN

Written mainly by Paul with the middle eight by John it was released as a single in the US getting to #12. Recorded Feb. 1964 at Abbey Road

Musicians:

Paul McCartney – lead vocal, acoustic guitar; John Lennon – acoustic guitar; George Harrison – acoustic guitar solo; Ringo Starr – bongos, claves

This was their first all-acoustic song (although you can hear an early, electric version on Anthology 1). It was the first ballad that I impressed myself with, admitted Paul. It’s got nice chords in it, ‘Bright are the stars that shine, dark is the sky…’ I like the imagery of the stars and the sky. It’s a love song really – the ‘And’ in the title is an important thing, ‘And I Love Her’, it came right out of left field, you were right up to speed the minute

you heard it. It came in the second verse and didn’t repeat. You would often go to town on the title, but this was almost an aside, ‘Oh… and I love you.’

George Martin had a big hand in the end of “All You Need Is Love” and almost

got into a bit a trouble for it. He used a bit too much of the classic song “In The Mood”…Featured on the Our World TV programmed on June 25, it was the first

live worldwide TV program. It lasted 6 hours long, and seen in twenty-four countries by an estimated 400 million people.

This was completed in four takes at their first-ever Sunday session. It was a bit of a formula song, said Paul. We knew that in E if you went to an A-flat minor, you could

always make a song with those chords; that change pretty much always excited you. This is one of these. We wouldn’t have actually wanted to sing it though, because it was a

bit… The ones that pandered to the fans in truth were our least favorite songs but they were good. They were good for the time.

Paul first brought the song to John’s attention in mid March while working on the lyrics for “A Little Help from My Friends”. John said to write down the lyrics so

not to forget them…revisited again 6 months later in September. In the film you can see Paul (by himself) dancing on a Mt. Top in Nice, France. It was an

interesting trip for Paul as he forgot his wallet, passport and his money! They also didn’t have the correct camera lenses …it ended up costing over 4000

pounds to film the scene. Musicians:

Paul McCartney – lead vocal, piano, acoustic guitar, recorder, bass guitar; John Lennon – harmonica, Jew’s harp(?); George Harrison – acoustic guitar,

harmonica; Ringo Starr – drums, maracas, finger cymbals; Christopher Taylor, Richard Taylor and Jack Eller – flutes

The Beatles - Baby You're A Rich Man – Yellow Sub & Social

Network SNGTK/Magical Mystery Tour Recorded 11th May 1967 Two songs put together… John’s “All Of The Beautiful People” and Paul’s “Baby You’re A Rich Man”…Recorded at Olympic Studios with more than a few Rolling

Stones present. Mark Lewisohn say’s in his Recording Session book that one tape box was marked w/ M. Jagger…

Musicians: John Lennon – double-tracked lead vocal, piano, clavioline; Paul McCartney – harmony vocal, piano, bass guitar; George Harrison – harmony vocal; Ringo

Starr – drums, maracas, tambourine; Eddie Kramer – vibraphone; Brian Jones – oboe (?); Mick Jagger – harmony vocal(?)

This was a combination of two songs – John’s ‘One Of The Beautiful People’, and Paul’s ‘rich-man’ chorus. The rich-man was supposedly Brian Epstein. Apparently John sings Baby, you’re a rich fag Jew towards the end (but I can’t hear it). And it’s

possible (although it’s not definite) that Mick Jagger sang a couple of the background vocals.

The Beatles – Two Of Us - Let It Be Thought by many to be a song about John and Paul and their childhood, "Two of Us" is actually a song written by Paul about he and his wife Linda. The lyrics are derived from various experiences where the two would get in the car with Paul's dog Martha and just drive in the countryside until they were lost. One particular day, Linda parked the car and went for a walk; Paul sat in the car and wrote the

basic track for the song. Recorded:

24th, 25th, 31st January 1969 Location: Apple Studios Producer: George Martin Engineer: Glyn Johns

Musicians: Paul McCartney – joint lead vocal, acoustic guitar; John Lennon – joint lead

vocal, acoustic guitar; George Harrison – lead guitar; Ringo Starr – drums

The Beatles – I’ve Got A Feeling - Let It Be Paul's song "I've Got a Feeling" and John's "Everybody's Had a Hard Year" were put together for "I've Got a Feeling". Paul's contribution

was a love song to Linda; whereas John's was autobiographical in new writing styles (each line begins with the word 'everybody'). John did have had a hard year, as he divorced his wife Cynthia, was arrested

for drug possession, was nearly broke, and had lost a baby with Yoko through miscarriage.

The Beatles - Don't Let Me Down – Let It Be Naked

The Beatles – Get Back – Anthology "Get Back" was the original title to the film and album, which became Let It Be. The whole idea of the album was for the band to 'get back' to their recording roots by playing live and without studio trickery, hence the title. Journalists

repeatedly asked Paul if the song had racist meanings, but demo tapes show that the song was originally a satire of people who wanted to keep illegal

immigrants out of Britain. Soon Paul had added a few characters and the satire was lost, but the single was enormously successful, selling 2 million copies
