Chapter 1- Anti-Aging Mantra: Quick Facts About Anti-Aging:

Our skin loses its moisture and elasticity as we age, resulting in wrinkles, saggy skin and liver or age spots. Elastin and Collagen are two main proteins of connective tissues that allow many tissues in the body to resume their shape after stretching or contracting but the levels of Collagen and Elastin decrease with our age which makes our skin weak, thin and loose. So what causes skin damage? Free Radicals are the culprit behind the aging process. One free radical can lead to a chain of free radicals that damage our skin and this process is called Oxidation. Slowly it will start damaging our skin cells by taking the moisture away, leaving our skin feeling dry, de-hydrated, itchy that ultimately results in Wrinkles. Causes Of Aging: Aging can be caused due to several factors and it can broadly be classified into two categories. Internal Factors- Internal factor refers to a natural aging process which starts at mid 20’s. It’s something we don’t have control over. External Factors- There are several external factors that cause aging. This type of aging is controllable because it’s caused by external factors and certain precautions and change in lifestyle can help. These factors could be- Sun Exposure Smoking Pollution Stress Harsh Chemicals (present in Make-Up and Skin Care Products) Improper/Unhealthy Diet Research shows that almost 90% of the Aging Problem is the result of Sun exposure. So don’t forget to apply sunscreen lotion before stepping out. Give up smoking, eat healthy and stay away from harsh chemicals, instead go for Organic Skin care products that are safe on your skin. Signs of Aging: You definitely would not want to wait until you shrivel up like a prune so how do you know if it’s time for you to start using anti-aging products? These tips might seem too general but these are the things I would advise you to follow if you don’t want to struggle with premature aging. 1. Drink at least 6-8 Glasses of Water throughout the day. Water is the best remedy to flush out toxins from your body. 2. Eat Healthy because what you eat reflects on your skin. Eat foods rich in Antioxidants that fight free radicals. 3. Chapter 2 - Anti-Aging Diet: Foods rich in antioxidants can not only give you a gorgeous complexion but they also take care of other health problems like Blood Pressure, Heart Disease, Stress, Diabetes and Cancer. For this recipe you will need: A piece of Licorice Root(Optional) Handful of Rose Petals Handful of Dried Calendula Flower, Chamomile Flower or Elderflower 3 drops Lavender essential oil Boil 6 Cups water along with the herbs (not the oil). Green Tea and Chamomile is a very effective Anti-aging Toner. Boil one cup Water and steep one Green tea Bag and one Chamomile Tea Bag. Let it cool for sometime. Apply it on your face with the help of a cotton ball. Do NOT rinse. This toner not only takes care of signs of aging but also soothes puffy eyes and lightens your complexion. Mint, Lettuce, Parsley and Glycerin Toner Take some Mint leaves, Lettuce and Parsley and grind them together. Take cheesecloth and strain the juice. Add one tsp. Vegetable Glycerin, apply the mixture on your face with the help of a cotton ball and rinse off after fifteen minutes. It’s a wonderful toner and it fades under eye dark circles. Apple Cider Vinegar, Aloe Vera and Glycerin Rebalancing Toner Apple Cider Vinegar dramatically reduces wrinkles and rebalances PH Level of our skin, Aloe Vera soothes and heals and Glycerin moisturizes our skin. This Recipe can be refrigerated for up to a week. Note: Don’t apply Apple Cider Vinegar neat because its acidic property can irritate your skin and make sure that you don’t keep this toner on for more than ten minutes to avoid irritation. Lemon Facial This probably is one of the quickest ways of getting rid of wrinkles. But remember, Lemon makes your skin photosensitive and can irritate dry and sensitive skin so make sure you use sunscreen before going out and I would recommend this recipe for night time. Also if your skin is sensitive to citrus fruits never use Lemon directly as it can sting and make your skin red. You could mix one part of Freshly squeezed lemon juice with 3 parts of honey and apply. Take one fresh Lemon, slice it and rub it directly on wrinkles, crow’s feet and fine lines. Wait for ten minutes and rinse off with cold water. Apply your moisturizer, preferably something with Aloe Vera which soothes and reduces irritation or any Serum or moisturizer that contains Seabuckthorn Oil which soothes irritated skin. Sunflower Oil Mix these ingredients in a bowl (make sure it’s completely dry), stir it with the help of a dry spoon and pour it in a clean, sterilized dropper bottle or a mascara container (You can buy a mascara container from http://www.makingcosmetics.com/index1.html for $ 1.6). This recipe will easily fill 1 oz (30ml) Bottle or four 0.25 oz (8ml) Mascara containers. You can fill 1 oz bottle and add it to the mascara container whenever it gets over. Camel Pose or Usthra Asana

Once you feel comfortable with the previous pose, you can move into the camel pose to maximize the benefits of yoga for your skin and body.

-Kneel on the floor with the heels of your feet pressed rightly against your behind while keeping your calves flat on the floor

-Reach backwards behind you and hold onto your left ankle with your left hand and your right ankle with your right hand.

-Inhale through your nose and slowly life your behind off of your legs and arch your back by thrusting your abdomen forward. Tilt your head back as far as you can.

-Hold the pose for the duration of your inhaling breath. Exhale and return to the kneeling base pose.

Simhaa Asana or Lion Face Pose

Facial Exercises

Before beginning a facial exercise routine, remember these things;

Be sure to clean your face thoroughly with warm water and makeup remover to ensure your skin is clear of any products, chemicals or bacteria. Apply a generous amount of moisturizer to your face or natural oils to make sure your skin is not dry. If you have particularly dry skin, use oils like virgin coconut oil or Jojoba. If your skin is usually oily you can use oils like grape-seed. Jojoba oil itself can be applied to all skin types if you can’t find the other oils. For the best results, you should engage in these facial exercises once a day for as long as you can. Getting yourself into a set routine is the best way to benefit your skin and achieve that glow you desire. When you first begin these exercises your skin will be very stimulated and engaging in something that it is not used to. Do not be alarmed if minor spots or irritations occur at first. For Sleek Cheeks

Exercise #1

Induce a relaxed smile and keep your lips closed. Suck in your cheeks inwards and onto your teeth. Hold them in this position for 10 seconds, relax and then repeat 10 times

Exercise #2

Sit upright with your lips closed, but not firmly. Feel relaxed. Pout your lips outward through the use of your cheek muscles. Keep still to the count of 10 and repeat the exercise 10 times.

How to reduce the appearance of a double chin

Sit or stand in an upright position and tilt your head to the ceiling while holding your lips together firmly. Initiate a chewing movement. You will feel the muscles in your jaw and chin working. Repeat the chewing movement 20 times.

For Firmer Neck and Throat

Sit upright and tilt your head so that you are looking at the ceiling. Hold your lips together but keep them relaxed. Move your lower lip over top of your upper lip as much as possible. Hold this and count to five. Repeat this exercise 10 times.

Eye Care Exercises (Reduce Crow’s Feet and Puffy Eyes)

Exercise #1

Sit upright and relax. Keep your eyes closed and life your eyebrows as high as you can. At the same time stretch your eyelids down in the opposite position. Hold this to the count of 5, relax and then repeat 5 times

Sit straight up with your eyes closed and relax. Keep your eyes closed and look down as far as possible. Alternate and look as far up as possible. Repeat this 5 times.

Place three of your fingers under the eye and pull it down. Keep your eyes closed all the while and count to 10, then release. Repeat this exercise 5 times and you will notice a reduction in the puffiness around your eyes.

For Forehead Wrinkles

Place your index finger just above your eyes and pull in a downwards direction while trying to raise your eyebrows upwards. Hold this position for 30 seconds and repeat 10 times.

Facial Exercise for Laugh Lines

Breathe in through your mouth and hold the air in your mouth by puffing out your cheeks. Hold this for 1 whole minute and then slowly breathe out through your nose. Repeat this exercise 5 times.
