Will Van Dyke ’02Will Van Dyke ’02 brought the sounds of Broadway to Bradley Hall during a release concert for his debut album Chasing the Day on Dec. 5. All the songs on the album are original compositions by Will. It features the vocals of Broadway talents who have been in productions of Wicked, Mamma Mia, RENT, and many more.

Performing with a small band, including two up-and-coming Broadway singers, Will shared songs from the album as well as from his original musical Pages. He also debuted a song from a new musical he is writing. Will credits Beaver teachers with giving him the freedom to explore many different types of art, which allowed him to hone his skills in both music and theater. In addition to writing and performing his own music, Will can currently be found playing keyboards in the musical The Addams Family on Broadway. For more information and a link to purchase the album, visit www.willvandyke.com.

New York artist Andrew Bordwin ’82Andrew Bordwin ’82 (left) returned to campus on December 9 to speak at all-school assembly and guest-teach an intermediate photography course. An acclaimed multimedia artist, in-demand commercial photographer and part-time college teacher, Andrew credited former Beaver photography teacher Doug “Major” Cohen with kindling his interest in visual art.

Andrew recalled that when he was at Beaver he wanted to enter Kodak’s student contest and couldn’t decide whether to submit a traditional black and white composition or a self-portrait he made by xeroxing his face multiple times. Mr. Cohen nudged him to take a chance by submitting the xerox image,

and he ended up winning the contest. He urged students to take their own creative risks: “You should never limit yourselves in your imagination. There are an infi nite number of possibilities you can give shape to.” Andrew’s “Type A” collaboration has an exhibit at the Decordova Museum through Jan. 11.
