The Vaillant brand
Vaillant is the brand providing answers for tomorrow’s world.
Ahead of our time since 1874
When Johann Vaillant patented the world‘s first gas bath
boiler for domestic hot water in 1894, twenty years after
becoming established, he started a small revolution. In 1905
he invented the first wall-hung boiler: the Vaillant Geyser,
and in 1930 the first gas-fired water heater with the
characteristic Vaillant design came into being. In 1961 we
introduced the first gas-fired circulation water heater and,
in 1967, the first combined heating and hot water system in
one unit. In 1995 we were able to offer the first in-house
developed wall hung boiler with high efficiency condensing
technology, in 2004 our first mini-CHP, in 2006 the first
self-produced heat pump and in 2010 the unrivalled zeolite
gas heat pump. Vaillant has always had the edge. Because
Vaillant thinks ahead.
Quality made in Germany
The hallmark of the hare is a promise of quality that applies
to every product and service with the Vaillant name. Vaillant
quality is perfection in every detail: We spare no effort in the
design and production, so you can effortlessly operate your
Vaillant system in your home. We manufacture our products
mainly in Germany — for customers around the world.
Our range includes gas, oil and pellet heaters, solar
systems, heat pump systems, the zeolite gas heat pump,
the latest combined heat and power systems for every
application, and also hot water cylinders, gas and electric
water heaters, ventilation systems and programable
controls — to ensure that everything works perfectly.
Because Vaillant thinks ahead.
For today, tomorrow and the future
Research and Development in the Vaillant Group, with over
600 employees, is one of the largest and most creative of
those in our industry. We are particularly focused on
developing new technologies for sustainable energy supply,
including the combination of fossil and renewable sources
of energy in efficient integrated systems and the dual use
of energy in combined heat and power systems. In Germany,
we are currently introducing the world‘s first micro-CHP
system with a gas-burning engine, and we are working on
our first fuel cell heating appliance. This is how we are
shaping the future of heating technology. Vaillant is the
brand providing the right answers to all questions related
to heating, living comfort and new energies. Because
Vaillant thinks ahead.
Heat from outside for inside
There is no more abundant, natural energy than solar
energy, which is stored in the form of heat in the air, in
the ground and in groundwater. This energy is available
everywhere, free of charge; it will never be exhausted and
you can use it all year round to heat your house. Because
even cold air and cold ground still contains a good deal of
heat energy. In fact, every medium whose temperature is
above absolute zero, that is above –273,15 °C, contains heat
energy. And it can never get that cold anywhere on earth!
Energy, a gift from nature
Heat pumps increase the temperature of environmental heat –
you could say they pump it up to a temperature suitable for
heating. To achieve this, you have to supply a quarter of the
required heat energy in the form of electricity, while the
remaining approximately 75 % is free.
Of course, it is also true that the smaller the temperature
difference between the outside heat source and the required
heating energy inside is, the less energy is required to balance
the difference out.
a heat pump work?
How exactly does
4 / 5
Environmental heat
Modern technology from Vaillant
A heat pump operates in a cycle in which a refrigerant with a very
low boiling point circulates and constantly undergoes the four
steps of the cycle. It evaporates and in so doing takes up energy,
and then condenses and in the process releases energy. This is
how it works:
Evaporation. Environmental energy is supplied to the
refrigerant in the evaporator. The coolant changes from
a liquid to a gaseous state.
Compression. The gaseous refrigerant is strongly compressed
by using a compressor. (This requires electrical power.) As gas
automatically heats up if it is compressed, the refrigerant
becomes hot.
Condensing. In the condenser, the hot gaseous refrigerant
gives up its heat to the heating system. Of course, the gas
thus becomes cooler and therefore liquid again.
Expansion. In the expansion valve, the refrigerant is
decompressed, i.e. the overpressure is reduced and the
refrigerant cools down so much that it can again take
up environmental heat.
From ground with probe or flat collector
With a Vaillant heat pump, you can choose your heat source:
Ground heat Is extracted using a geothermal probe that leads
vertically into the ground, or with a ground collector that is horizontally
installed at 1.20 to 1.50 m depth.
Our heat pump technology is proven technology and an efficient system.
Good for the environment, good for you
A heat pump makes you independent from fossil fuels and their
constantly increasing costs, because you use free, inexhaustible
energy of your ground instead of externally supplied energy with
its ever increasing costs. And without even the slightest emissions
arising from heat generation, you will always have a comfortable,
warm home.
Buildings big or small –geothermal heat warms them all.
The ground stores energy for you
Just below the surface of the ground there is enough heat for your
home: solar energy that is stored by the ground. With one of
Vaillant’s ground source heat pumps, you can use this heat just
under the surface very efficiently for heating and domestic water
preparation, not just in new builds, but also in modernisations: the
maximum flow temperature of 62 °C makes possible the trouble-
free use of renewa ble energy in renovated old buildings. Your
installer can tell you whether you are eligible for state funding for
this sustainable use of energy.
The energy source is your home’s own plot of land
To tap your own ground heat source, you require either a geothermal
probe or a horizontal ground collector. For geothermal probes,
all borehole depths regarding local regulations can be provided with
the use of single or double U-pipes inside. The geothermal probe
requires very little space and is very efficient.
A ground collector is installed 20 cm below the frost limit. This is
approximately 1,20 to 1,50 m beneath the ground’s surface. It
comprises a plastic pipe that is arranged in curves and loops,
similar to an underfloor heating system. A ground collector is
cheaper than a geothermal probe but requires a lot of space that
cannot then be built upon.

Which heat pump do I need?
At Vaillant, we have the correct ground heat pump for every
requirement, with many different outputs to choose form to ensure
your comfort. For example, you can cool your house passive using
a heat pump. The automatic cooling function uses the lower
temperature of the ground and cools the the living space via the
underfloor heating system without costs for the compressor.
The heat pump that can do everything
The heat pump geoTHERM exclusive is the complete solution for
a single-occupancy house. It extracts energy using a geothermal
probe or a ground collector and supplies heat in the winter, passive
cooling in the summer plus hot water at all times. There is an
integrated hot water cylinder, likewise an auxiliary electric heater
and a weather-compensating controller.
The heat pump with comfort on demand
The heat pump geoTHERM plus also heats a single-occupancy
house using ground heat – and what else it does depends on your
preferences: either it supplies you with hot water the whole year
round, or it provides pleasant passivecooling in the summer.
The successor of the winner in the German consumer association
product test, the geoTHERM plus operates with the highest efficiency.
The heat pump that remains flexible
The heat pump geoTHERM is characterised by multiple possible
applications and the ease with which it can be combined with other
systems. The output range from 6 to 17 kW supplies single and
dual-occupancy houses, while geoTHERMs from 22 kW are the
correct choice for multi-family houses, commercial properties and
other buildings with up to 400 m2 floor space. All can be expanded
with a suitable hot water cylinder to match your requirements.

Domestic hot water preparation with heat pumps
A solar hot water cylinder for heat pumps
If you want to combine a heat pump without an integrated
cylinder with a solar system for hot water preparation, then the
best solution is the new solar hot water cylinder for heat pumps,
geoSTOR VIH RW 400 B, because it stores the heat from the heat
pump and the solar system in equal measure. If there is sufficient
solar output in summer, the heat pump can even remain switched
off; the solar system takes over hot water preparation by itself.
Two powerful hot water generators
The double jacket tank geoSTOR VDH 300/2 is both technically and
visually a perfect partner for Vaillant heat pumps without an
integrated hot water cylinder. Its double-jacket storage technology
ensures convenient hot water preparation. The conventional round
cylinder, geoSTOR VIH RW 300, on the other hand, is the right
option for you if you are looking for an economic purchase.
