Application for the 2022 David J. Beck Fellowship The David J. Beck Fellowship is intended to recognize and support undergraduates at Lamar University and is funded by a generous endowment established by Mr. David J. Beck, a Lamar alumnus, former Lamar University System Regent and Trustee of the Lamar University Foundation. The Fellowship Committee seeks students with high academic achievement, leadership potential, and financial need. To assist selected students and in addition to the recognition associated with the award, the Beck Fellowship includes a full academic scholarship (tuition, books, fees, room, board, and miscellaneous expenses) and a $10,000 summer stipend. In 2022, two Fellowships will be awarded. The awards consist of a calendar year commitment from the Beck Fellows: the 2022 spring semester following acceptance, the subsequent summer devoted to academic enrichment (e.g., an internship, international study, coursework at another university, or similar activity approved by the fellowship committee), and the following fall semester. Each fellow will choose a Lamar University faculty member to serve as project mentor. The mentor will provide academic and logistical support during the fellowship year. In November 2022, at the Beck Fellowship Symposium, each Fellow will present an academic report detailing the summer enrichment activities. To be eligible for a Beck Fellowship, the applicant must: Be a full-time undergraduate student at Lamar University who will not graduate before the end of the fellowship year. Be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the university. Have a minimum cumulative Lamar University grade point average of 3.50 or higher. If the applicant has not yet completed a full semester at Lamar University, eligibility will be established by a SAT score (CR plus math) of 1250, an ACT score of 28 or above, or a ranking in the top 10% of the high school graduating class. A transfer student is eligible with a 3.50 or above on 12 or more academic hours at the previous institution. A committee appointed by the provost will review applications, interview candidates, and make award recommendations to the provost. Final selection will be made by the president. Beck Fellows will be selected on the strength of their complete application packets, including proposed summer project, academic record, and financial need. The completed application and supporting materials, including two letters of recommendation and separate support letter from project mentor, must be submitted to the address below no later than the close of business on September 10, 2021. 2022David J. Beck Fellowship

If I receive the Beck Fellowship, I agree:

1. That I am responsible for gaining admission to the program(s) that are the focus of my summer project.

2. That I am responsible for any costs incurred by me beyond the limits or restrictions of the Beck Fellowship award.

3. That I will conduct myself in such a way as to be a worthy ambassador of Lamar University.

That my fellowship may be revoked for any of the following reasons: my failure to gain acceptance into the program(s) thatwere the basis of my evaluation for this award; a drop in cumulative GPA below 3.25; evidence of misconduct that would warrantexpulsion from Lamar University; change in summer project without the consent of the Beck Fellowship Committee; withdrawalfrom my summer project or program prior to completion. I understand that revocation of the fellowship shall cause all payments tocease and may make me liable for the return of payments previously provided as well as loss of the title of �“Beck Fellow.�”
