Give a special kind of care when it matters most Become a Hospice Volunteer HOSPICE VOLUNTEERS bring a special kind of caring to Hospice patients and their families. Volunteers learn about Hospice service and how to provide care at a time when patients and families need specialized support, a time when care matters the most. Training Needed to Become a Patient Care, Grief Support or Ida Emmerson Hospice House Volunteer All volunteers who work with patients and their families complete an introductory 8-hour self-study course followed by an 8-hour classroom training. Patient Care Volunteer training includes information on the many ways that volunteer support is offered to patients, such as through Pet Peace of Mind and bedside vigils. Grief Support Services Volunteer training prepares for facilitating our community support groups. Volunteers for the Ida Emmerson Hospice House are oriented to the facility as well as their role in assisting patients and families during their stay at the facility.
