What has been done
What are you going to do?

Energy Efficiency Reducing the amount of energy you consume is always
the best place to start. Once you have made every effort to reduce your consumption, then you can look at adopting a solar and/or wind system.

Energy Audit Get an energy audit done for your home, your business
and/or your school. Make a note of how much energy you are consuming, what efforts you can make to reduce this and if you are a victim of phantom power.

Insulating a house and replacing or covering drafty windows with plastic film can save considerable money

Wind Energy
Skystream 2.4 kw has potential to power an entire home.
$18,000 cost. Lethbridge College is creating a program to train people how to install these turbines.

Solar Energy
12 solar panels at 230 watts with 25 year warranty$18,000 installation

Social Justice club built 10 solar lanterns for people in Haiti. Lanterns should last 10-15 years and are used because the sun goes down around 6 p.m.
“We can do more for the world. We’re coming from a privileged position here on earth and we need to give. We need to help.” – Teacher Aaron Dublenko

Now it’s your turn!
Break into small groups. Decide on a community, school or business from a member in your group that you will propose a Renewable Energy project to
Spend 45 minutes brainstorming on what this project looks like, how you will obtain funding, what partners you will involve and why people should care about it
Report back to the large group on your project
Bonus points for creativity!

Timeline
10 minutes what this project looks like and your budget
10 minutes how you will obtain funding
10 minutes what partners you will involve (marketing, awareness)
10 minutes why people should care about it and prepare your presentation, making sure everyone in the group contributes
