VacationsBee Bops Little House, LLC takes paid vacation each year. All Vacation Time Is Paid. See addendum 1 for vacation dates and other closures. If your family takes vacation time, you must still pay your tuition for the time your child is not in our care. By planning my vacations a year in advance, my hope is that your family will be able to schedule your vacations accordingly.

Open Door PolicyWe maintain an open door policy. Parents are welcome to visit the daycare at any time during business hours. You are welcome to observe our program as long as you wish. Please understand that I may not be available to give you my undivided attention as I am interacting with the children. Visitors tend to make the children behave in an excited manner that does not usually occur when I am alone with them. Also, your child may become upset when your visit is over and you end up leaving without them. Please keep those things in mind when planning your visit.

Arrivals & DeparturesBee Bop’s Little House, LLC hours of operation begin at 7:00 a.m. Please do not drop off prior to opening without prior consent. Occasionally you may wish to send someone other than yourself to pick up your child at the end of the day. Be sure to notify any persons doing so of the drop off/pick up time procedure. Always notify me should there be someone other than you dropping off or picking up for the day.

Any persons taking your place for drop off/pick up times should be listed under “contacts” in your enrollment form. If they are not listed, a written statement is required for the day and ID will be checked. I will not release the child without your approval for both the protection of your child and myself.

SeparationIt is normal for some children to have difficulty separating from parents in the morning or not wanting to leave when it is time to go home. Please be very brief (no more than 5 minutes) during these times. The longer you prolong the departure, the harder it gets for the child, and I need to focus my attention on the other children. A smile, cheerful good-bye kiss and reassuring word that you will be back are all that is needed for the morning. In my experience, children are nearly always quick to get involved in the activities as soon as the parent leaves.

MealsWell balanced USDA meals will be served. Food is offered to your child, but your child is not forced to eat. Children

are encouraged to finish the food served to them before seconds are offered. If your child is a big eater, you may send additional meals & snacks for them to have throughout the day. If your child requires special diet items, please talk to me about it and I will do my best to incorporate it into our meal plans. You may be asked to supply special diet requests. Our meal times are:

8:00 Breakfast 9:30 Snack 11:30 Lunch 3:00 Snack 6:00 Dinner ( lil tots ) 7:30 Late snack ( lil tots )

If your child is arriving after a specific meal time, please be sure to provide the meal before the child arrives. Parents are welcome to bring a special birthday or holiday treat with advance notification as long as there is enough for the entire group. Please do not let your child bring gum or candy from home.

Baby Food/FormulaIf your child is eating formula or breast milk, bring 4-5 bottles labeled with your child’s name. Frozen breast milk may be kept at daycare. Make sure it is labeled with your child’s name and date.

Here at Bee Bops we pride ourselves in our nutritious infant meals. We follow all USDA guidelines, use organic fresh fruits and veggie’s and mix our own baby food each week. Kirkland formula is offered and supplied at no additional cost, if your infant requires a different kind of formula, then you must supply it.

Dress for PlayAll children must arrive dressed and ready for the day. When dressing your child, please keep in mind that we do many messy activities such as painting, playing outdoors, and we may use “messy” items. Please do not dress your child in clothes that you would not like to be soiled. I feel the children need fresh air daily and with weather permitting, we play outside at least once a day. In warmer weather, we go outdoors more often. If you have Velcro shoes, this makes it easy for the kids to put their own shoes on and take them off quickly without the help of a teacher, and lessens the amount of falls on the play ground. Keep in mind that we have bark and it gets stuck inside of sandals often. If you DO NOT want your child to get messy or have restrictions on play, please let us know.

Nap/Quiet TimeAll children under the age of five will be required to have rest time/quiet time while at daycare. Our rest time generally is from 12:00-2:00. To avoid disturbing children who are napping, try not to schedule pickups at this time. If you must pick up your child during quiet time, please notify me in advance so that I may have your child ready when you arrive. No drop offs will be permitted during quiet time. I believe children who quiet their mind and rest their body during the day are better equipped physically and emotionally to face the remainder of the day. If your child is under 5 years of age, please note that they will be required to have quiet time each day. I provide a quiet rest time with cots or porta cribs for

each child. I also provide small pillows and a blanket. Children who do not fall asleep after 40 minutes will be allowed to choose a quiet activity until quiet time is over.

Diapers/Toilet LearningDiaper changes are scheduled for every 2 hours or as needed. I only accept disposable diapers. Please supply us with a package of diapers as needed. We will notify you when supplies are running low.

Toilet learning will begin when; you have begun at home first. Your child should be showing signs of interest in using the toilet, this usually occurs around the age of 3. We will help in the process the best we can. Children should be able to remove clothing, wipe themselves, and replace their clothing in order for toilet learning to begin. Training pants or pull-ups are required during toilet learning. Cleanliness and hand washing will be emphasized during this process. Children will not be disciplined for accidents during toilet learning. If interested, I have a great handout on toilet learning.

Our Philosophy:

Young children develop full complement of cognitive, social, emotional and physical skills best when most of preschool day includes free play with materials that can be used individually or by small groups. Free play avoids decreased risk-taking and cooperation among young children, who may feel that they have "failed"

when asked to do more structured work.

Common Practices we practice in our setting:

Use of hands-on materials, art and self-initiated projects

Free play with limits set by number of children who are able to play at a particular station

Problem Solving Exercises

Taking turns and sharing

Lengthening attention span

Persistence and frustration tolerance

Positive GuidanceBabies: (Birth-18 Months) have no inner sense of right and wrong, and no reliable self-control. They cannot resist temptation and should not be expected to obey verbal instruction. Discipline is not appropriate at this age. Behavior can be shaped by ignoring inappropriate behavior and reinforcing appropriate behavior.

Toddlers: (18 Months-Three Years) also have no sense of right from wrong and no reliable sense of right from wrong. Although their language ability is developing rapidly, they have poor judgment, an unreliable memory for rules, and cannot resist temptation. Reinforcement techniques are still effective. Distraction and substituting alternative activities are also effective at this age. Natural and logical consequences may be effective with toddlers in some cases. Power struggles should be avoided.

During the PRESCHOOL (Three-Five Years) children develop more self control, are able to remember and conform to rules more reliably, and are able to connect actions to consequences. Preschoolers are less self centered and are beginning to see the world from another person’s point of view. They are beginning to develop an inner sense of right and wrong. Preschoolers respond well to explanations of rules and can better understand natural and logical consequences than when they were younger.

It’s Bee Bop’s Little House, LLC’s policy that positive guidance and discipline techniques are used in our facility and are designed to encourage independence, success and the development of self control in all children. There are FOUR acceptable discipline techniques:

Page 9: Bee Bop’s Little House, LLC Book.d… · Web viewBUMBLE BABIES ( infant-5 yrs ) 8021 SW Mapleleaf St Tigard Or 97223. Hours: 7:00-5:30. ... All information will be kept confidential

1.) Distraction: Involves changing a child’s focus from the unacceptable situation. (Handing a toy to a toddler whom is attempting to take another child’s toy).2.) Redirection: Involves the teacher in a preventative nature and involves anticipating and intervening before a “problem” occurs.3.) Ignoring: Ask yourself, “Is this a behavior I can live with?” (A child who dumps out an entire bucket of Lego’s). As long as materials are not broken, lost or no one was hurt, simply let the situation pass and observe to see that the Lego’s are returned to the bucket and put away. 4.) Time Out: I use time outs rarely. I do not put the child on “display” for all to see who is in time out. I do not have a time out spot; it changes. I do not make a big deal about being in time out. It’s basically removal from the group, situation or other person. We have a talk about what’s going on and usually time outs are after several warnings for the same repeat behavior. Also, it depends on the age of the child. Children under the age of 3 are generally never in time out. As they are not quite 100% verbal and developmentally they want to be independent and try new things and usually those new things are things we don’t want them to do.

Illness

Please analyze your child’s health each day before bringing them to daycare. The only way to have a healthy, sick free environment is when we work as a team and not infect others with germs that are contagious. As I know it’s difficult to take time off to care for a sick child, if you bring them, it prolongs the illness as it passes from child to child and our environment suffers a great deal when sick children are here. The best solution is to have a backup plan. Please have a plan in place for sick children, if you are unable to care for them, make sure to plan in advance a back up care person, family member, friend, etc.

Bee Bop’s Little House, LLC will not admit nor retain any child in care who:

Is diagnosed as having or being a carrier of a childcare restrict able disease as defined in health division administration rules OAR 333-19-200; or has one of the following symptoms, or combination of symptoms, of illness:

Fever of 100.5 degrees F, taken under the arm, or 101.5 degrees F, taken orally Diarrhea (More than 1 loose, runner, water or bloody stool) Vomiting Nausea Severe Cough

Unusual yellow color to skin or eyes Skin or eye lesions or rashes that are severe, weeping or puss filled Stiff neck and headache with one or more of the symptoms listed above Difficulty breathing or abnormal wheezing

Children will be isolated in the event that they are ill. If a child exhibits any of the above symptoms listed above, they will need to be picked up. They may return to childcare when 24 hours has passed since the last symptom was present. In the event your child is sick, I will try to reach you twice with 15 minutes passing between each call. After that, if I am unable to contact you, I will call your emergency contacts. Please make sure you always update your file with current work/home and contact numbers in case of emergencies!

MedicationWritten consent is required for ANY medication. All prescriptions must be in original containers labeled with the child’s name. All non-prescription medications must be in original containers bearing the original label, child’s name, age, expiration date and directions for dosages. Medication is to be given at home whenever possible, especially eye drops and nebulizing treatments.

Child Abuse ReportingWe are “mandatory reporters”, required by state law to report any incidences of suspected child abuse. This includes physical, emotional and neglect. My first concern is the safety of your child, and if I suspect he/she has been subjected to abuse, I will file a report with the proper authorities.

Animals ( Busy Bees )We have two indoor/outdoor cats, Lucy and Pixie. Both cats are not allowed to be in the daycare area, except to

come in and out of the door. Both cats are vaccinated yearly as directed. If your child is allergic, please let me know. We also have a new puppy ( Sept 2011 ) Her name is Abby, and she is a golden doodle. ( ½ retriever ½ poodle ). She will be kept in the main house for the most part and only allowed to potty in areas not used by children. We will bring her into the daycare to visit and let the kids be exposed to the power of a puppy

Infants ( Bumble Babies )

Page 11: Bee Bop’s Little House, LLC Book.d… · Web viewBUMBLE BABIES ( infant-5 yrs ) 8021 SW Mapleleaf St Tigard Or 97223. Hours: 7:00-5:30. ... All information will be kept confidential

Daily care for infants under one year of age generally focuses on meeting the needs of the child on his or her own schedule, including eating, napping, play and diapering. It is important for parents to provide extra changes of clothes for the child. Parents must also provide diapers and wipes, breast milk/formula, special dietary foods, non-prescription medications, ointments or creams labeled with the child’s name and directions.

Infants will be held while drinking bottles and we do not bottle prop. Infants will be moved around throughout the day, floor play, belly time, swing, excersauser, standing, rocked, read to, sang to, encouraged to talk and outdoor experiences. ( sample of some, not all )

Preschool ( lil tots )Our curriculum changes from time to time. At some times, I order a curriculum called FUNSHINEEXPRESS. This is a pre-packaged curriculum, geared for kids 3-5. Sometimes I do my own program, trying to develop my own unique learning opportunities. This really depends on the particular group I have. We try to do a learning activity as well as a craft several times a week, but at times, the children have other things on their mind. I believe the process of the project is where the real learning takes place, although the product is sometimes more fun for the parents. Each child is encouraged to participate in our daily pre-school activities: arts, crafts, and music and circle time. We give each child the freedom to stop when they are finished and chose another activity. We believe play is very important in child development and where most of their creativity is developed.
