STATEMENT OF EVIDENCE
1. My name is Adrian Tony Faulks and I am the Managing Director of Faulks Investments Limited
(FIL).
2. Prior to the Canterbury Earthquakes I operated a small business consisting of two trucks from
my property in Lincoln. I had previously operated a larger business, but had sold and downsized
upon relocating to Lincoln.
3. Following the earthquakes, the demand for trucking contractors to participate in first the
demolition and more recently the rebuild resulted in me growing FIL from 2 trucks to 18 trucks
plus associated excavating equipment.
4. We are currently working alongside some of the major participants in the recovery and have a
very strong relationship and a very good reputation with these companies. I have attached
some letters from these parties attesting to our contribution to the recovery.
5. Due in part to the rezoning of our property in Lincoln under the Land Use Recovery Plan we
sought to relocate the business to a location more convenient to our operations. We are
currently operating under a temporary activity approval on Buchanans Road.
6. The site is very beneficial to us given its location in close proximity to major quarrying
operations such as Winstones, KB’s, Fulton Hogan and Blackstone/Blakelys. We are share our
rear boundary with Canterbury Road Metals which enables us to access the quarry without
having to use the local road network.
7. The benefits of our location cannot be understated. Our daily payloads have increased
significantly through eliminating unproductive time of the roads. This has benefits in terms of
fuel efficiency but also in terms of being able to supply aggregate and dispose of clean fill
competitively. These savings can be passed directly onto to construction bottom lines.
8. Although committed to the earthquake recovery at present I have previously undertaken
significant work in behalf of rural clients in respect of such things as dairy races, irrigation
installation and creating horse training tracks to name a few. All of these are reliant on access
to aggregate and clean fill disposal.
9. Whether it is the construction industry or the rural industry the need for aggregate goes hand in
hand with the transportation of it. Being able to locate alongside or in close proximity to the
quarries has significant benefits to all involved.
10. I am very proud of my business and the way in which I conduct my business. I ensure my trucks
are presented on the road so they are a reflection of myself and my reputation and my yard is
kept spotless. I understand the need to look after the rural environment and the rights of
neighbours, however the way in which my business in conducted is respectful to both.
-
11. I would like to see the District Plan reflect the importance of what we have done and are doing
for the recovery and believe the District Plan should be able to adequately balance the needs of
working environments against other rural values and landscape considerations.
