• The Whole Note is the most basic type of note.

• It has four beats no matter what time signature it is in.

• In 4/4 time it takes up the whole measure.

• The Half note is the next size directly smaller then the whole note.

• It is half of the size of the whole note.

• The half note takes up 2 beats 4/4 time.

• The largest note value with a stem.

• The quarter note is the next size directly smaller then the half note.

• It is a quarter of the size of the whole note.

• The Quarter note takes up 1 beats 4/4 time.

• The eighth note is the next size directly smaller then the half note.

• It is a eighth of the size of the quarter note.

• The Sixteenth note is the next size directly smaller then the Eighth note.

• It is a 1/4 of the size of the Eighth note.
