Statement from the Oceanside Unified School District
It is with great “Pirate Pride” that the Oceanside Unified School District opens the Oceanside High School Performing Arts Center.
The 29,000 square feet, state-of-the-art facility was designed as a learning and performance space for the students and community of Oceanside. The facility includes a 502-seat main theater, a black box theater, indoor and outdoor scenery shops, classroom space, a recording studio and outdoor seating and performance areas.
Thank you to the community of Oceanside, who entrusted the district with Proposition H Bond Funds to construct the $24 million
facility we are sitting in tonight. Thanks to the voters, our kids will develop skills that will last a lifetime and discover talents that will lead to careers.
Thank you to Architect Harley Ellis Devereaux for seeing what this project could be and to Erickson-Hall Construction Company for making that vision a reality.
On behalf of the Oceanside Unified School District Board of Education, the district and Oceanside High School, welcome to the Oceanside High School Performing Arts Center. Enjoy the show!
– Dr. Duane Coleman, Superintendent

OHS Foundation is a proud sponsor of this gala event. Helping to promote tonight’s grand opening only goes to further advance our vision and mission. As a non-profit organization, our purpose is to raise funds for the benefit of the students and staff of Oceanside High School. These benefits include but are not limited to scholarships,
student programs, classroom supplies, and capital improvements to the school. We also serve as a liaison and database for alumni and their respective graduating classes. Another aspect of the OHS Foundation is to maintain the OHS archives located in the school’s library, preserving over 100 years of priceless memorabilia. We also host and keep alive the OHS Hall of Fame recognizing past OHS graduates and their local, national and/or international accomplishments. Your attendance and support here tonight helps to maintain this purpose. Thank you.
Please consider becoming a member of the OHS Foundation as we continue to support and encourage all aspects of this great school. Membership information is available in tonight’s program and through our website at www.ohsfoundation.org.

Chris started singing at OHS under the direction of Mr. Richard Langen. LOLA GULLEYLola is a dynamic blues and R&B singer/keyboard player who has been igniting stages in the Atlanta area and is breaking out as a national artist. Blessed with a deep soul voice, a “funkified” keyboard style and an intense, high energy stage presence, Lola combines traditional blues with hard-edged R&B to create her own brand of contemporary, tough music. She was honored to be named among “Atlanta’s Queens of Blues” along with the dynamic Francine Reed and Sandra Hall. Lola is a proud winner of a 2011 Jus Blues Music Award - Contemporary/Traditional Blues Artist Female and a 2007 recipient of BluesCriitic.com’s Best New Female Artist award. Since striking out on her own as a bandleader, Lola has shared the stage with The Pointer Sisters, Bobby Womack, Bobby “Blue” Bland, Betty Wright and Chubby Checker. While at OHS, she was very active in sports and band, was the Drum Major and was elected student body president. During her senior year, her father was transferred and she moved to Arizona.
