Music & Lyrics by Dolly Parton
Book by Patricia Resnick
Based on the
20th Century Fox Motion Picture
“Working 9 to 5… what a way to make a living!”
Pushed to the boiling point by their boss, three female co-workers
(Sheri Tipton, Cherity Harchis and Brynne Geiszler) concoct a plan to
get even with the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot they call
their boss (John B. Cooper). They conspire to take control of their
company and learn there's nothing they can't do -- even in a man's world.
Set in the late 1970s, 9 TO 5: The Musical is an hilarious story of
friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era. Outrageous, thought-
provoking, and even a little romantic, 9 TO 5: The Musical is about
teaming up and taking care of business.
Not recommended for children under age 13

News from the Artistic Director’s Chair… Being legally blonde, I had the joy of directing and choreographing Legally
Blonde! The sets were beautiful, the costumes amazing and the cast – the
best! We could not have found a better “Elle Woods” than in Leah Wickstrom.
Critics raved about the show and the Box Office was busy! The show was cre-
ated on Broadway to attract a younger audience and it did that for TMP as
well! Our next generation of audience has already begun to support TMP.
We are currently in rehearsals for 9 to 5: The Musical. Be prepared to
laugh and laugh! We have a very talented cast including Sheri Tipton (Damn
Yankees), Cherity Harchis (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Coat) and
Brynne Geiszler (Little Women) as the three women who plot revenge against
their boss played by John Cooper (The Drowsy Chaperone). There will also be
a surprise visit from someone as well. Based on the movie of the same
name, this musical has an endearing score written by Dolly Parton, and of
course it includes the theme song that everyone remembers. Don't forget our
Behind the Curtain! at TMP preview presentation for 9 to 5 will be held on
Sunday, May 12th at 7:00 pm. Why not bring mom out for an evening of en-
tertainment and education?
It is hard to believe that next season we will be 20 years old! And what a
year it will be! In case you haven’t heard by now, we are embarking on a
stage remodel that will not only help us backstage, but you will enjoy better
shows, as well. We are planning on enhancing the sound, lowering the stage,
opening the proscenium arch opening and putting the orchestra in a new loft
area. We have almost reached our Capital Fundraising goal of 1.2 million
dollars…. BUT we are not there yet and you can still help financially. Contact
our Director of Development, Diana George at 253-565-6867 for more infor-
mation on how you can help.
Our 2013-14 20th Anniversary Mainstage Season promises to be very en-
tertaining! We start with the incomparable show Les Misérables. Our holiday
show is one you have requested us to bring back to TMP and so, after 14
years, we will be producing Annie. Our winter show will be highly energetic
with a tribute to some of the best songs of the 1960’s called SHOUT! Our
next show is one that you selected on the summer audience survey and that
is Man of La Mancha. The spring show was also very high on the audience
survey - La Cage Aux Folles, the musical based on the same story as the mov-
ie, The Birdcage. The summer show was recently released for our theater to
produce and so we grabbed the rights to produce the Mel Brooks’ screwball
musical, Young Frankenstein. Season Ticket and Flex Pass renewal packets
will be coming out very soon for our current subscribers. Watch your mailbox!
For those of you who would like to purchase a subscription for the first time or
are returning after a lapse in subscription, Season Tickets and Flex Passes
will be available for new subscribers beginning in July. Remember, TMP is the
largest community theater in the Northwest! Purchasing a TMP subscription is
a great way to secure an entire year’s worth of entertainment!
A reminder about attending TMP, Theater Etiquette and patron considera-
tions: Please remember to limit the use of fragrances, to refrain from talking
or singing during the show, and for parents, to be cognizant of your child’s
ability to sit through a show without taking away from the experience of your
fellow patrons. If we all remember these simple rules, the theater-going expe-
rience for ALL patrons can be an enjoyable one. Many of your fellow TMP pa-
trons are highly sensitive to fragrance and are forced to consider leaving a
show in progress when other around are wearing them.
We have a new Theater Tour coming up. What better time of year than in
early August to spend some time in beautiful Victoria B.C.? We plan on seeing
three delightful shows plus experience the incredible summer fireworks dis-
play at Butchart Gardens. This tour is beginning to fill up so don’t be left out.
Look for the ad in this newsletter. We also still have room on our exciting tour
to China in August. Don’t forget, season subscribers have first priority for join-
ing TMP trips and tours.
"Great things are happening at TMP!"
-Jon Douglas Rake, Managing Artistic Director
THE CONSTRUCTION HAS BEGUN! What construction? What am I talking about?
You won’t see it yet because it’s in the back work-
shop, but it’s finally started. If you’ve been attending
TMP events recently, you’ve heard the remodel and
renovation announced, or read about it in a newslet-
ter, or even seen the signs in the lobby.
But for those of you who haven’t heard, we are tak-
ing the orchestra out of the audience and giving it a
place of its own, lowering the stage by 15 inches, in-
creasing the stage and backstage space and adding
acoustical baffling to the auditorium to better balance
the sound.
Thus far we have raised over $1,000,000 toward
the completion of this project but we need your help.
We still have a large portion to raise the $1.2 million
needed to complete this important endeavor.
For a contribution of $1000 or more TMP will etch
your name(s) on a glass block (two lines of 18 charac-
ters each) and place it on the front window of TMP
facility. The feature will then be backlit so your “Name
(s) will appear in Lights!”
You can also purchase a brick on the Walk of Fame
to be installed at TMP’s front entrance. Choose from
an 8” x 8” brick for $500 which includes two lines of
18 characters each or a 4” x 8” brick for $250 with
one line of 18 characters.
This is a wonderful way to recognize an extraordi-
nary friend, family member or that special someone
you have fond memories of, and in a unique way sup-
port the Phase II Stage/ Auditorium Remodel of Taco-
ma Musical Playhouse.
Contact Diana at 253-565-6867 or [email protected]
to find out more about how you can help make this
remodel project come to life!

“Entertaining Education” “What happens at Summer Camp?”
It’s that time of year again. Flowers are blooming, birds are chirping, and the sun is shining. A perfect time to keep from get-ting sunburned and sign up for Summer Theater Camp. Camp-TMP enrollment is now open for what is shaping up to be an ex-citing summer. Our summer program is one of the most antici-pated activities all year. Not only are students rehearsing and performing a full-fledged musical, they are also receiving a top notch selection of workshops to enrich their performing arts background. Many of you have asked what a typical summer camp day is like. Each day of camp is broken into four periods. Two of those periods are strictly for rehearsals, the other two are workshop based. Workshops in the past have included Stage Combat, Audi-tion Technique, Improvisation, Character Development, and one of my favorites, spit-takes. We also teach the history of Musical Theater. Each summer we view three different pieces and devel-op workshops that explore how those shows have helped to change musical theater. Some of the past productions we’ve viewed are Cats, Oklahoma, Hairspray, The Sound of Music, and Singing in the Rain. Overall, there’s never a dull moment in the camp day. There are still openings for all four sessions, so make sure you enroll now before they are full! On a final note, some of you may have heard that I am leaving TMP. It’s been a pleasure for me to be here these past five sea-sons and I have enjoyed getting to know all of the wonderful families and patrons. I’m heading just down the street to Tacoma Little Theatre as their new Managing Artistic Director and hope that you’ll come see a play there. Thank you for all the great times and I know you will all enjoy working with my successor, Steve Barnett ([email protected]). Best, Chris Serface
