WithStartToCollect,theBelgianArt&DesignFairintendstoapproachthelargegroupofpersonswhoareinterestedinartanddesignbutlessfamiliarwiththeartanddesignmarket.Thisinitiativeaimstodeveloptheenthusiasmforbuyingandcollectingwithinalargeraudi-ence.StartToCollectexploresanewaudienceonbehalfoftheBA&DFparticipantsbyofferingaprogrammeofstudioandgalleryvisits,crashcoursesandguidedtours.Theprejudicesandrigiditysurroundingtheartanddesignworldwillbecompetentlydismantledinordertomakewayforacuriousandopenapproach.

StartToCollectnotonlyoffersanaccessibleexplorationoftheartanddesignworld,butalsoanin-depthviewoftheparticipants’programmebefore,duringandafterthefair.Bydoingso,we

ensurecontinuousattention,allyearround,forBA&DF,itsparticipantsandtheBelgianartanddesignscene.Duringthefair,StartToCollectactivatesvisitorsthroughworkshopsandguidedtoursthatintroducethemtotheparticipants.

StartToCollectworksasaclubwithanannualmembership.WhatdistinguishesStartToCollectfromothercollectorsormuseumclubsisitseclecticprogrammeanditsfocusonbothartanddesign,whichforconnoisseurstoocanbeinterestingadditionstotheexistingoffer.StartToCollectisaninitiativeoftheBelgianArt&DesignFair.

StefanieEveraertandCarolineLateurareworkingtogetherasDoorzoninteriorarchitectssince2005.TheystartedtheircareersinMaartenVanSeveren'sstudio,workingatfirstmainlyforprivateindividuals,fromnewbuildsandrenovationstosmallerassignmentssuchascustom-madefurniture.Overthepast15years,theirfieldofactivityhasexpandedtopublicandinternationalprojects,multiplecompetitiondesigns,scenographyandexhibitions.In2016,forexample,theycuratedtheBelgianpavilionattheVeniceBiennaleofArchitecture,incollaborationwithdevyldervincktaillieuarchitectsandFilipDujardin.FortheDesignMuseuminGhenttheycreatedanewscenographyforthepermanentcollectionincollaborationwithFELTarchitectsGhent.Inadditiontothecreationanddesign,theyalsocuratedthefirsttemporaryexhibitionwithinthenewsetup.

CarolineandStefaniebothteachatLeuvenUniversity(FacultyofArchitecture,Sint-LucasCampusGhent)since2016.TheoDeMeyerisanarchitectoperatingbetweenmultiplepractices.Amongotherthings,heworksasaprojectarchitectforjandevylderingevinckarchitectsandasanassistantattheETHUniversityinZürich.ThroughcollaborationswithartistManorGrunewaldandDoorzoninteriorarchitects,TheoDeMeyerdevelopedhisownindependentandstillexpandingfield,includingscenographyaswellasfurnitureandarchitecture.TheoformswithDoorzoninteriorarchitectsthecoreoftheStandVanZakenmodularcollective,creatoroffurnitureandarchitecturethroughcollaborationswithspecialistsinvariousfields.StandVanZakensupportsthecreationanddevelopmentofobjects,buildingsandideasbyrelyingonsharedenthusiasm.
