«During the presentation of the
«ISHANGO MILELE»’s program at the
United Nations, I felt instantly touched
by the trueness of the message «Sharing
knowledge for peace». The Ishango bone's
symbolic strength, which is the banner of the
African scientific culture for peace helped me
to realize that it was my duty to get involved
and use my abilities and my contacts in order
to encourage the recognition of «ISHANGO
MILELE» ’s program in the USA. We must act as
fast as possible, without losing time; an
emergency that I’ve already shared with
Quincy Jones, Morgan Freeman, Stevie Wonder
and many others who recognize how important
it is that our Peace program be addressed to
future generations. It is time to act, Now... !

L'Art des Tambourinaires, c'est avant tout un lien quasi-mystique qui unit un pays toutentier à ses tambours sacrés, le mot "ingoma" signifie tout à la fois "tambour" et"royaume". Fascinant mélange de formalisation et de spontanéité proche de la transe,l'éblouissement rythmique que nous offrent les maîtres Tambours du Burundi éclateavec l'exubérance naturelle, la joie et la volonté de vivre de tout un peuple. Un tambourinaire s’installe au milieu du demi-cercle et devient le meneur. Il impose letempo, le rythme par sa musique et sa danse. Tous les autres tambourinaires s’accordent avec lui dans les chants, la danse et les percussions. Chaque spectacleest donc différent.
De Kunst van de Tamboerspelers is vooral een bijna mystieke link dat een heel landverenigt met de heilige tamboers, het woord "ingoma" betekent zowel "tamboer" en"koninkrijk". Een fascinerende mengeling van formalisatie en spontaniteit zoals in eenroes van trance, de ritmische opbouw dat de meesters Van Tamboers van Burundi onsbieden, ontpopt zich door hun natuurlijke ruwheid, hun plezier en de wil om te levenvan een hele natie. Een tamboerspeler begeeft zich naar het midden en krijgt zo telkens de hoofdrol waarin hij het tempo en ritme bepaalt door zijn dans en muziek,alle andere tamboerspelers stemmen zich af op hem in het zingen, dansen en de percussies. Ieder spektakel krijgt zo een steeds andere inhoud.
The Art of TambourIn Players is above all an almost mystic link that re-unites a wholecountry with the sacred tambours , the word "ingoma" means both "tambour" and"Kingdom". A fascinating mix of formalisation and spontanity creating a form of trance.The ritmic builting up that the "Tambours of Burundi" offers us, shatters by their naturalroughness, their joy and will to live of a whole nation. One tambourin player centers inthe middle of the half circle and gets the leading role, deciding tempo and rythm by hisdance and music, followed by the other tambourin players accordingly in the singing,dancing and percussions. Therefore every show has a different content.

The Centre for Vocal Art and Ancient Music: A vocal ensem-
ble, two orchestras and a festival
The Centre for Vocal Art and Ancient Music (Centre d’Art
Vocal et de Musique Ancienne, CAV&MA) was created in
1984. First and foremost, the CAV&MA is active in promoting
music, thanks to its ensembles that have, over the years,
gone from strength to strength: the Chamber Choir of Namur,
the baroque orchestra Les Agrémens, and the Millenium Or-
chestra.
The CAV&MA is also committed to training young singers and
instrumentalists in the practices of Ancient Music.
Furthermore, the CAV&MA is in charge of the artistic direction
of the Music Festival of Namur (a part of the Festival of
Wallonia), which puts on a series of high quality concerts in
July every year, in exceptional locations around the old town.
The CAV&MA is funded by the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles
(DG Culture, Music department), the City of Namur, the
Province of Namur and the Belgian National Lottery.

ORATORIO ISHANGO MILELE
L’Oratorio est basé sur le message dela Fondation ISHANGO MILELE :« Le Partage du Savoir pour la Paix »
et son étendard : le Bâton d'ISHANGO,découvert en 1950 par Jean de Heinzelinsur une terrasse fossile de la Semliki, à lasource du Lac Edouard/Rutanzige (Répu-blique démocratique du Congo). Cet Osserait la plus ancienne preuve (transcrite)de l’acuité mathématique de nos ancêtres.Cette pièce unique, d’après les analyses,nous vient du fond des âges: 22.000 ans.D’après certains scientifiques, cet Os estincisé de stries; on y décèle des nombreset des ensembles, comme si il y avait eucomptage, ou mieux encore, un systèmenumérique. L'hypothèse est que cet Ospourrait être la plus ancienne règle à cal-culer, remontant aux temps préhistoriquesdes chasseurs-cueilleurs-nomades. La ri-chesse et la beauté de l’Oratorio tiennentdans les voix du Choeur Symphoniqued'une quarantaine de chanteurs qui selaisse emporter au gré des rythmes afri-cains. Ce mixage des styles exprimemieux que tout autre discours le cousi-nage ancestral et profond entre l’Afriqueet l’Europe. Le métissage des styles clas-sique, jazz et musique du monde, est lefondement de cette œuvre. C’est là queréside toute son originalité, sans parler del’émotion que ce mariage déclenchelorsque les voix se fondent dans les per-cussions et que les instruments nous par-lent, à leur tour, comme des voix.
Het oratorium is geïnspireerd op de boodschap van de StichtingISHANGO MILELE : «Delen van
kennis in functie van de Vrede» en de ont-dekking in 1950 van het ISHANGObeentje, door Jean de Heinzelin op hetfossiele terras van Semliki, aan de bronvan Lake Edward / Rutanzige (RepubliekCongo). Dit beentje is wellicht het oudstebewijs van wiskundig doorzicht van onzevoorouders. Dit unieke stuk is volgens deanalyse maar liefst 22.000 jaar oud. Vol-gens wetenschappers is dit bot bewust in-gekerfd met kerven die een mathematischsysteem onthullen. Dit beentje zal der-halve allicht het alleroudste rekenliniaalzijn, daterend uit de prehistorische tijdvan jagers-nomaden. De waarde en de on-derliggende schoonheid van het Oratoriowordt duidelijk in de vorm van een bijnasymfonisch klinkend koor van veertigzangers die zich laten leiden door grilligeAfrikaanse ritmes.Deze mix van stijlenwil graag de voorouderlijke en diepe ver-wantschap tussen Afrika en Europa bena-drukken. De vermenging van klassiekestijlen, jazz en wereldmuziek, vormt hetfundament van dit werk. Daarin schuilt deoriginaliteit, het boeiende versmelten vantalloze stemmen en instrumenten van di-verse origine.
The Oratorio is based on ISHANGO MILELE message : «Sharing Know-ledge for Peace» and the ISHANGO
bone. In 1950, the Belgian Jean de Hein-zelin de Braucourt discovered the Boneof Ishango on an archaeological site ofthe Semliki River not far from the Edward Lake (called also the RutanzigeLake ) in the Democratic Republic ofCongo. The archaeological dating of theBONE OF ISHANGO is 22.000 years.Soit appears to be the oldest mathematicalobject known to humankind. The Bone isincised with culumns and numbers andformulates a numerical system. This famous bone is said to be the earliestprouve of mathematical acuity of our ancestors. According to scientists whoevaluated its age , the bone could be thenthe oldest calculator based ona special numerical system used by people fromprehistorical times. The richness and thebeauty of the Oratorio sounds in thevoices of the symphonic choir of fortysingers who gets carried away at thewhim of African rhythms.It remembersus the long time cultural relation betweenthese two continents: Africa and Europe.The blending of these two cultures thatexists into classic styles, jazz and worldmusic is the foundation of this project.
