Bastille Day• July 14, 1789 (Celebrated in France like we

celebrate the 4th of July)• Angry, scared people began to gather

weapons. (What if the king attacks us?)• A mob storms the

Bastille and took control from the guards.

• Approx. 100 killed.• French army refused to

get involved – WHY? • Marched through the

streets with heads on pikes.

The Bastille was a Paris prison that also stored gunpowder and

arms.
