Cleaver Scientifi c is proud to launch an exciting new range of high performance fermentors

and bioreactors.

Remarkably user-friendly and equipped with intuitive controls, these fermentors and bioreactors are suitable for most fermentation and cell culture applications performed by:

• University teaching labs;

• Life science research labs;

• R&D facilities within biofuel and biotech companies;

• Pharmaceutical organisations;

• Food and beverage manufacturers.

Each system is supplied as a customised solution with vessel, impeller, control station and probes for growth of diff erent microbes, yeast, mammalian, insect and plant cells, removing the complexities often faced with other brands of equipment selection and set up.

Assembly is straight forward with the unit being unpacked and made ready for the autoclave in less than an hour.

The control station is fully integrated with built-in peristaltic pumps, gas fl ow control, and pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), substrate feed and antifoam functionalities all installed in one bench top unit.

An easy-to-use large 10.4-inch colour touchscreen interface allows setting and real-time pictorial display of agitation speed, temperature, pH and dissolved oxygen (DO), while 4 assignable built-in peristaltic pumps act in tandem with the corresponding probe sensor to control pH, DO and antifoam feeds.

Each probe is connected to an easily accessible side panel that also houses quick-fi t connectors for rapid set up of the heating system and ancillary equipment for aeration and cooling.

Changing with your needs

Grow almost any cell type − With a wide range of vessels and impellers, including

customised options, Cleaver Scientifi c fermentation and bioreactor systems have the

capacity to grow virtually any cell type: whether it’s anaerobic or aerobic microbes, yeast,

insect, plant or mammalian cells.

Pre-programmed for fermentation & cell culture − All Cleaver Scientifi c fermentors

and reactors are pre-programmed with fermentation and cell culture operating modes

allowing each system to adapt as your needs change.

Diff erent vessel confi gurations − All fi ve types of interchangeable single-wall,

double-wall, heat-blanketed, jacketed and air lifter vessels are available in 3 to 20 litre

volumes and made from autoclavable borosilicate.

Multiple options & accessories − Full adaptability is assured with up to 4 probe

options for pH, DO and temperature; 4 brushless motor drives with 12 choices of impeller;

2 adjustable fl ow meters, and 5 vessel types in as many as 6 diff erent volumes.

Simple to use

Touch-and-grow − A large 10.4” colour touch screen interface built within the control

station allows the user to control and view each parameter within a conspicuous, easy-to-

read pictorial display.

Helpful screen tabs − The colour touch screen is pre-confi gured for use with the

selected reactor vessel, while 8 diff erent screen TABS facilitate user-fi endly control of all

critical process values within a single screen (see page 5).

Same software on all units − The same control software features on all fermentors

and bioreactors allowing the user to change to other Cleaver Scientifi c systems when

required, while ethernet remote control is available without additional software.

Automatic Controls

Gas fl ow control − Automatic multi-gas mixing options - up to two and four

respectively in fermentation and cell culture mode - ensure optmised yields and cell

growth, while a selection of customisable gas fl ow options provide complete fl exibility by

allowing customers to design systems specifi c to their needs.

Adjustable air fl ow − Each system features as standard an adjustable air fl ow

rotameter on the front of the control station. An optional oxygen (O2) enrichment module

comprising adjustable rotameter and O2 enrichment valve may also be fi tted. Bespoke

thermal mass fl ow control (TMFC) options are available on request.

2-stage cascade with P-I-D technology − A built-in 2-stage ‘cascade’ feature utilises

P-I-D (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) control technology to maintain the DO setpoint

through automatic adjustment of agitation speed and substrate feeds, and optional O2

enrichment. The adjustable P-I-D values for pH and DO may be defi ned automatically by

the size of the reactor vessel, or after manual fi ne-tuning by the user.

Leave it to its own devices − P-I-D control of each setpoint obviates the need for

constant operator supervision, thus aff ording the user the time to perform other tasks at

their convenience while the system remains unattended. Choose glass-walled vessels as shown or heat-blanketed vessels. Customise your system with up to two rotameters or optional TMFC for gas overlay and sparge.

A low maintenance, brushless 24V DC motor (1.) is avail-able as standard with each system and may be used with both types of standard impeller, such as the Rushton-style, as shown (2.), for fermentation, or the low-shear pitched blade impeller (3.) for more fragile insect, plant and ani-mal cultures. Bespoke impellers are available on request for full fl exibility.

Heat-blanketed dish bottom vessels − available in 6 sizes, ranging from 3 to 20L. Larger 15L and 20L vessels are ideal for process scale-up as cost-eff ective

alternatives to expensive sterilisable-in-place systems (SIP). Dry-heating blanket suitable for growth of microbes and non-photosynthetic plant cells.

Single-wall plain bottom vessel with heating base − available in 4 sizes: 3, 5, 7.5 and 10L. Dry-heating base ensures rapid heating and cooling. Perfect entry-level system for microbial fermentation.

Low maintenance 30-1200rpm brushless motor − available for all models. Supplied with 'quick' connector for easy vessel connection. Optional low 5-300rpm motor recommended for cell culture.

Side panel − provides convenient access to all connections for probe sensors and motor, as well as the sparger, cooling system and condenser.

10.4-inch colour touchscreen interface − included as standard with all units. Helpful screen tabs guide you through each step of the set-up process. 'Get touching and start growing!'

Double-wall round bottom vessels − available in 4 sizes: 3, 5, 7.5 and 10L. Warm or cool water circulates through the outer wall cavity for thermostatic temperature control. Especially suitable for growth of mammalian, microbial and insect cells.

Four peristaltic pumps − may be linked directly to acid, base, antifoam and substrate feeds. Pump speed adjustable within 1rpm increments.

Threaded penetrations in 316L stainless steel headplate − provided for probes; acid base and substrate feeding ports; septum port for small volume injection (e.g. antibiotics); condenser to prevent culture media evaporation; sparger, cooling ports, and inoculation and sampling ports. External peristaltic pumps − may be connected to control station by RE-485 port. Fifth external pump may be controlled in the PUMP screen tab (see sample screen 2 below). Pump head is reversible and may be used with any one of six silicon tubes, ranging from 0.8 to 7.9mm in internal diameter, depending on the desired fl ow rate (36 to 2300 mL/min).
