Welcome to Global Scrum Gathering® Bengaluru 2016.

India, a land of colours, vibes, warm relationships, and, of course, fun. A land where the five elements and the seasons are in a perfect, balanced harmony. The vibrant culture has always inspired people here to think beyond. From the Himalayas to the Indian Ocean, from Kamrup to Kutch, India’s unity and diversity have always inspired innovation, social engineering, and thinking beyond the obvious.

As servant leaders of the first-ever Global Scrum Gathering® in India, Jaya and Madhur welcome all delegates, speakers, sponsors, volunteers, and partners to the Silicon Valley of India, Bengaluru.

Global Scrum Gathering® Bengaluru will feature keynotes, workshops, and talks centered around our theme of “Scrum Beyond Boundaries.”

We will start our first day with an Ignite session by Dr. Kiran Bedi, Lt. Governor of UT of Puducherry, Magsaysay award winner and the first woman IPS officer of India, who will be presenting on her experience with transforming prisons in India. This will be followed by an Ignite session by Craig Larman, the co-creator of LeSS, on the tenets of Scaling Scrum.

On Tuesday, our keynote speaker, Pete Deemer, chair of the Board of Directors at Scrum Alliance® and CEO of GoodAgile, will be talking about Scrum Masala, an insight into the flavors of Scrum. On Wednesday, Daniel Gullo, CST® and easily the most hardworking guy in the Scrum world, will talk about the Entrepreneurial Spirit and its importance.

In addition, we will have Open Space facilitated by Daniel Mezick and Coaches Clinic facilitated by Zuzi Sochova.

We would also like to specially invite you to our Monday evening program highlighting the culture of India, Ek Shaam, Bharat Ke Naam, a fusion performance representing the cultural landscape of the four corners of India. As you enjoy our special themed ambience, drinks, and dinner, get lost in the melodious notes that will unravel your senses and rejuvenate your spirit.

We look forward to seeing you all.

Theme Scrum Beyond Boundaries: 20 Years of Scrum Jeff Sutherland and Ken Schwaber first codified the Scrum Development Framework at the OOPSLA Business Object Design and Implementation Workshop in 1995. The world has changed a lot since then. International borders have moved and shifted. Our neighbor Mars is no longer far out of our reach. The mediums and ways through which we consume news have expanded and the ways we communicate and collaborate have totally transformed. And so have the use of Scrum and Agile methods. What started as a software development framework is now being used in non-IT environments, including Fortune 500 corporations, educational institutions, health care agencies, and creative small businesses. What started as a framework for collaboration within a single team is now being used for complex, multidi-mensional programs. At the first Global Scrum Gathering® in India, we explore ways, methods, stories, and research about how Scrum has expanded beyond boundaries — geographic, technological, corporate infrastructure, and even mental boundaries.

Tracks Scrum Beyond IT – Scrum adoptions in domains beyond softwareWe will learn from case studies and research papers on successful Scrum transformations in the worlds of education, charity, event management, and many other non-IT environments.

Scrum Beyond Collocated Teams – Using Scrum for distributed teams and scaled environmentsTeams today expand beyond geographic boundaries to use Scrum in diverse, distributed teams. We will examine experiments in collaborating and communicating as a distributed team and identify the synergies required for cross-cultural teams tackling large-scale programs.

Open Space Date: Wednesday, June 29Time: 11:00 - 12:45 and 13:45-16:45 Where: Grand Ballroom

Open Space is the only process that focuses on expanding time and space for the force of self-organization to do its thing. Although one can’t predict specific outcomes, it’s always highly productive for whatever issue people want to attend to. Some of the inspiring side effects that are regularly noted are laughter, hard work that feels like play, surprising results, and fascinating new questions.

Transforming Organizations, Transforming Lives

Date: Monday, June 27Time: 9:30 - 10:15 Where: Grand Ballroom

Motivation, persistence, and perseverance are the distinct traits of determined, dedicated individuals who can make things happen. It’s always possible, even when the task is awesome, to transform the mindset of human beings.

Located in the capital city of India, New Delhi, Tihar is one of the largest prisons in the world. Within a prison complex of over 200 acres are housed more than 11,000 inmates — men, women, adolescents, children, Indians, and foreigners. They comprise unconvicted alleged offenders, convicts, and remandees. It was a limping and languishing institution condemned by the media, isolated from the community, exploited, used and abused.

Dr. Kiran Bedi (then 44) was appointed the inspector general of Tihar prison on May 1, 1993. She brought about fundamental changes, giving a human face to the administrative structure and creating an exemplary system covering every possible aspect of prison management. The whole objective was to initiate and strengthen, collectively and individually, the transition from a wooden system to a responsive and sensitive administration. The efforts unfolded a process of reformation involving prison administration, prisoners, and the community, aligned toward one common goal: “correction” through a collective and community-based approach.

OPEN SPACE FACILITATOR: Daniel MezickDaniel Mezick is an author, enterprise Agile coach, and keynote speaker.

He is the primary author of The OpenSpace Agility Handbook and the formulator of OpenSpace Agility, a technique for bringing rapid and lasting culture change to any organization. He pioneered the idea of culture as a game, and the idea that the most effective culture-change programs are

best structured as inviting, engaging games. His culture tools, culture-change techniques, and enterprise consulting practice are all based upon these core ideas.

In his pioneering book The Culture Game, he describes 16 specific patterns of group behavior that help make any team smarter. His book provides A-B-C guidance on how to quickly implement these patterns by employing game mechanics. The Culture Game is based on 5 years of experience coaching 119 Agile teams across 25 different organizations.

Coaching organizations in culture change since 2007, Daniel’s client list includes Capital One, Intuit, Cigna, Siemens Healthcare, Pitney Bowes, Harvard University, and many smaller enterprises. Learn more and contact Daniel at www.DanielMezick.com.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERSKEYNOTE SPEAKERS Ignite Session 2 Craig Larman, CST®, Co-Creator of LeSS More with LeSS: Descaling with Large-Scale Scrum

Date: Monday, June 27Time: 10:15 - 11:00 Where: Grand Ballroom

Many groups ask, “How can we do Agile at scale in our big, complex group?” This is the wrong question. Why? Because traditional large groups have unnecessary complexity due to their organizational designs. A different and subtler question is, “How can we simplify the organization, and be Agile rather than do Agile?” So LeSS is about simplifying big organizations and figuring out how to apply the principles, purpose, elements, and elegance of Scrum in a large-scale context, as simply as possible.

One of the key principles of LeSS is systems thinking, and in this talk we will explore how to think about your big systems, and become Agile by descaling.

Ignite Session 3 Pete Deemer, CST®, CEO of GoodAgile Scrum Masala

Date: Tuesday, June 28 Time: 9:30 - 10:15 Where: Grand Ballroom

Pete Deemer has spent the last decade working mostly with ScrumMasters and Scrum teams in India, and in this keynote he shares stories about the real-life ScrumMasters he’s worked with and their journeys in Scrum and “Scrum-But.”

Ignite Session 4 Daniel Gullo, CST®, Founder of Agile Delaware The Key Ingredient to Success: Entrepreneurial Spirit

Date: Wednesday, June 29Time: 9:30 - 10:15 Where: Grand Ballroom

An entrepreneur is someone who sees possibilities, opportunity, experiments to be run, and lessons to be learned and has the courage and motivation to do whatever it takes to be successful.

There is a popular saying: “Think globally, act locally.” In our world of work, we need to think about what our organization is trying to accomplish … the vision and purpose. Then do whatever is necessary to accomplish that vision.

In this talk, we will look at what it means to have an entrepreneurial spirit and how it is vital to the success of any organization and of ourselves as individuals.
