RABINDRA JAYANTI

Clouds come floating into mylife, no longer to carry rainor usher storm, but to add

colour to my sunset sky...In spite of going through

such a difficult time, the teach-ers and students of Birla HighSchool left no stones unturned todo what they wanted to do. Yes,it was an online special assem-bly on May 7 to pay our humbletribute to one of the greatest poet

of all times who has always guid-ed us away from darkness to-wards light...

Rabindranath Tagore was apoet, thinker and truly a leaderof modern India. His birth an-niversary is not only an occasionto pay tribute to him but also asombre moment for us to pauseand ponder over the rich legacyhe has left behind. His values andthoughts continue to inspire us.

In this modern era of scienceand technology, seldom peo-ple recognize the efforts of

writers and poets, who by theirhard work and enthusiasmteach us the best way to live ourlife. But, Sunrise English Medi-um School never fails to paytribute to such writers. Even thecoronavirus pandemic could notstop the institution, from cele-brating Rabindra Jayanti 2K20as the institution took help ofthe virtual world to pay tributeto the pedantic writer of the era.It was a surprise for all the stu-dents, who were downcast, asthey were unable to celebratethe occasion with pomp. All thanks to theteachers of the school, who despite theirbusy schedule took the initiative to pay trib-ute to Gurudev.

The programme began with the self cho-reographed dance of Shreya Bhattacharyaon the song "Jogote anondo joggye". Thiswas followed by a melodious vocal per-formance by Kuheli Mukhopadhyay, JasbirKaur and Soma Basu on the songs, "Ekla

cholo re" , "Badi asha bandhe aye hai" and"Aaguner poroshmoni" respectively, whichleft the viewers spellbound. The poem"Pochishe Baishakher Uddeshey" recitedby Basanta Sardar, was heard with rapt at-tention. The 30-minute short event came toan end with a thought-provoking speech bythe principal, Sunita Srivastava.

Rita Dove had very apt-ly said, “Poetry is lan-guage and it is most

distilled and most powerful.”Tagore’s poetry proves

the same. His vast oeuvre ofwork is not only global butalso for people of all ages. Itexpands from nadir to zenithand touches almost every as-pect of life- from love to hate, from tears to happiness, etc.A child, an adolescent andan adult, all can get some-thing and relate themselveswith one or the other workof this legend.

Thus, even amid the na-tion-wide lockdown to bat-tle the Covid-19, the cele-brations of the 159th birthanniversary of Ra-bindranath Tagore was stillwitnessed at St Xavier’s In-stitution, Ruiya, but in adifferent light altogether, although the flavour andessence remained the same.

We are all well ac-quainted with the abun-dance of talent that ourchildren are instilled with, and our institution has al-ways tried to provide a plat-form where these latent,

budding talents can unrav-el themselves. An onlinepodcast of various cultur-al programmes that wereamalgamated together wasarranged on the occasionof Rabindra Jayanti. Stu-dents and teachers partici-pated with full vigour andenthusiasm. Some con-tributed with their dulcettones and some with theirserene gestures that wereperformed on various mel-lifluous songs of Tagore. The juxtaposition of the po-etry, the songs and thedance were such that itseems as if they are thebeads of one rosary.

The current situationhas cooped up all of usphysically, but the effortthat was put in by our hard-working teachers and ourtalented students to makethis programme a grandsuccess even during suchtough times shows us ex-plicitly that it has failed tocage our minds and thatwill only provide us the im-petus to move forward with-out fear and emerge as thewinner in this on-goingmelee. What comes to mindis an optimistic quote fromTagore himself-“Where themind is without fear andthe head is held high…”

TRIBUTE TO TAGORESXI Panihati’s

W hen the world around changed into a dark prison for us dueto a terrible virus yet the sun was to rise on the birthdayof our own poet of poets, we faced the question whether

we could celebrate it the way it shouldbe. With the odds against us mounting, the spirit of St. Xavier's Institution,Panihati rose once again to the occasionand produced a tribute to the immortalpoet through recitation of his poems, songs composed by him, enactment ofparts of drama written by him and piecesof literary gems created by the partici-pants who were the children, theirteachers including the principal of SXI,who feel pride in calling themselves as afamily. It was all the more special asnone of them left their home, each recording and uploading his/herparts online. It was truly a herculean task very well executed.

In it, the doubtful child wondering how it can be done trans-forms into a desperate Amol, a brave Khoka in ‘Birpurush’, thendances to the tunes of flowers or the universe itself exposedthrough "Momo chitte" and is filled with positivity. Indeed, it waspositive energy which flowed through his pen and that was verywell expressed through the presentation. It was another well earned feather in SXI Family's highly decorated cap.
