Winter 09/10 Projector Family Brochure
BenQ projectors draw on a set of core technologies that ensure superlative
performance and create the foundation for differentiating features.
BrilliantColor™ enhances color and overall picture brightness, while BenQ takes a
comprehensive approach to heightening contrast.
BenQ incorporates leading-edge short-throw projection features in models
designed for smaller spaces, while all models incorporate technologies such as
DLP chips that enable greater user convenience and cost-effectiveness – as well as
superior reliability.
Brilliant technology, BrilliantColor™
BrilliantColor™ is an advanced on-chip technology
developed by Texas Instruments specifically to enhance
color performance in projectors.
BrilliantColor™ allows processing of six color channels,
instead of the three available to conventional projectors,
expanding the color space that can be rendered by BenQ‘s
projectors.
BrilliantColor™ also increases overall picture brightness,
resulting in ultra-realistic, vividly realized colors and the
best possible viewing experience.
Go big in small spaces
BenQ’s short-throw projectors let you enjoy a big-screen
show even in locations where space is tight. BenQ’s short-
throw projectors need just half the distance required by
conventional projectors to display an image of a given
size.
Due to the use of an advanced design based on a special
aspherical lens, BenQ short-throw projectors let you
enjoy the show in places not usually amenable to
projectors. In addition, with the projection distance so
much reduced, you no longer need to worry about
shadows cast by people walking between the projector
and screen, nor about having to deal with the projector
lamp shining in your eyes when giving a presentation.
So if you want to give a big-screen show in a small space,
a BenQ short-throw projector is the way to go.
Original color
Boosts mid tones by 50%
Traditional Projector BenQ Short-Throw Projector:The aspherical lens effectively boosts the image zoom rate.
BenQ Uses the Newest Aspherical Short-Throw Lens Technology.
Core Technology
High contrast, High-quality viewing
One of the most important determinants in the quality
of the viewing experience provided by a projector is its
contrast ratio.
BenQ has spared no effort to maximize contrast ratios,
darkening blacks and brightening whites to bring out
the full range of color and detail in the projection image.
Black, anti-glare surfaces inside the projector dampens
light diffusion that can make black areas of the picture
less than fully black, eliminating detail as dark shades are
lost.
The optical engine and lamp have also been optimized
so that the full level of brightness is maintained, not only
revealing further color and details, but also enabling an
excellent viewing experience even with a high level of
ambient light in the room.
Convenience and Cost-effectiveness
With their exclusive use of DLP chip technology, BenQ
projectors employ a sealed optical engine that eliminates
the need for filters, simplifying maintenance and avoiding
problems associated with blocked filters.
And because DLP chips are not prone to color decay,
you’re spared expensive repairs later – or even having to
purchase a completely new projector – simply to restore
the projector’s original performance characteristics.
This low-maintenance design is one reason why BenQ
projectors offer lower total cost of ownership, making
them the most economical choice.

Go 3D with DLP® Link!
Elevate Learning to a Whole New Dimension of Fun!
Get ready for some serious learning fun that will get stu-
dents engaged, excited, and involved! BenQ projectors
and DLP Link are taking teaching to a whole new dimen-
sion of effectiveness and enjoyment...at no extra costs.
Selected BenQ Education Series projectors come stand-
ard equipped with 3D technology. And unlike the tradi-
tional 3D projector system, which requires two perfectly
aligned projectors to transmit two separate video feeds in
order to deliver a 3D projection, BenQ has mastered 3D
display so as to require only one projector equipped with
Front Project 3D DLP Link technology.
3D instruction will be the latest trend in education, open-
ing up new opportunities in teaching methods for edu-
cators and students alike. Not only will students be able
to better visualize complex concepts such as molecular
bond formation and geometry, they can acquire true-
to-life experiences such as dissecting a frog through 3D
demonstrations. In addition, teachers can take their class
on virtual trips all around the world from the Egyptian
pyramids to the Great Wall of China using 3D education-
al media content. Imagine the time and money savings
on field trips!
How Does It Work?1) Turn on your BenQ 3D projector. It will automati-
cally be in 3D mode – no need to navigate complex
menu settings!
2) Pop in your 3D multimedia educational DVD into
your notebook or DVD player. Your device must sup-
port a 120Hz output, which is required for 3D con-
tent.
3) Have students put on their DLP 3D active eyewear.
4) Hit play and be ready to wow and engage your stu-
dents with 3D instruction!
What’s Hot – 3D’s the New Way to Go!
e Rainbow Eect, otherwise known as “RBE”, is claimed to be a stroboscopic eect that exhibits brief ashes of red, blue, and green when projected bright white objects move very quickly across black backgrounds. However, research shows that while some may be quite sensitive to RBE, other may never see them at all. Also,
with the increase in color wheel speed and application of LED illumination, it’s
safe to say that the RBE is virtually eliminated.

What BenQ Has to Offer
Filter-Free, Sealed-Engine Design
With numerous people shuffling about, it’s no wonder places are extremely prone to dust. That’s why BenQ DLP
projectors are hands-down the only smart choice for all projection needs. Unlike LCD projectors that require costly filters
to keep dust out, BenQ DLP projectors boast a sealed-engine design that protects all optical components from dust... no
filters required!
What IT Personnel Want – Maintenance Savings!
Non-DLP Projector Engine Design
• Dust filters are required, but they still do not catch all dust particles.
• Dust that accumulates on the engine will eventually cause projector temperature to rise, which in turn will shorten lamp life.
• Dust accumulation also causes optics and LCD panels to degrade, creating color decay, which then affects image quality.
Extra Cost: Filters need to be routinely cleaned to maintain optimal performance, typically every
100 to 300 hours of operation.
Extra Cost: Filters need to be replaced after 2000 hours of operation.
BenQ DLP Projector Sealed-Engine Design
Reduced Cost: The optical engine is completely sealed from dust, so no filters are required.
Reduced Cost: The DLP chip is cooled from the back to prevent overheating and to promote longer lamp life.
Image is Everything!Enjoy Superb Readability and Breathtaking Colors with BenQ!
Sharpen Up with High Contrast RatiosBenQ DLP projectors boast high contrast ratios from 2000:1 up to 3500:1. In real-world terms, high contrast ratios translate to razor-sharp detail definition and a broader range of subtle color differences. Hues are more deeply saturated and vivid, which in turn grab student atten-tion and interest. High contrast ratios combined with DLP’s innately higher fill factor (vs. LCD) further enable deeper, truer blacks and whit-er, more pristine whites. Ultimately, text is sharper, cleaner, and easy to read... even from the very last row.
“Filters require routine cleaning and replacements! They’re so much trouble!”
“Stop asking me to go from room to room over some tiny problem! It’s just so annoying!”
“The LCD projectors are too old! Just look at the color decay!”
“Everyone’s complaining about the lamps and filters being too expensive. It’s not like I’m not trying to help save money!”

Vivify Your World with BrilliantColor™BenQ was among the first to adopt BrilliantColor technology, a unique color-processing algorithm that revolutionized the industry by vastly expanding the color gamut beyond that of previous generation projectors. Together with BenQ’s proprietary golden ratio multi-segment color wheel, BrilliantColor amazes with super-enhanced whites and secondary color processing, boosting mid-tone hues by up to 50% in brightness. BenQ projectors with BrilliantColor deliver unsurpassed color range, depth, and vibrancy far beyond the conventional color space to capture hard-to-produce vivid yellows, cyan, and magenta. BrilliantColor and BenQ breathe life into every image!
Flawless Color Accuracy
without Decay
With all-digital DLP image processing, BenQ education
projectors never suffer color decay, ensuring vibrant, bold
colors that last. No-decay color accuracy is just one more
way cost-effective BenQ DLP projectors out-class LCD
models!
Intelligent Lamp Care
Lamp care is another crucial consideration when it comes
investing in projectors. In case you haven’t realized, pro-
jector lamps require special care as they are sensitive to
heat and movement. They are also quite expensive to re-
place. BenQ has a special lamp care system that comes
with a sophisticated cooling system, which safeguards the
projector lamp even from its users! This lamp care system
automatically detects and evaluates the lamp temperature
when the projector is turned on. It’ll only allow the pro-
jector to start running if the lamp is cool enough. With
the help of this smart design, you get to extend the lamp
life up to 4000 hours!

Remote Maintenance
with Crestron® RoomView®
BenQ is proud to introduce Crestron–supported Room-
View network service. This networking feature gives IT
personnel simplified real-time, facility-wide control and
management of up to 250 projectors from a single central
station. Everything from projector presence, power sta-
tus, lamp life, and even IT support can be monitored, ac-
cessed, and controlled remotely, eliminating the need for
in-person servicing. Automatic e-mail notifications can
also be set up to alert the IT department in the event of
projection trouble, allowing administrators to act quickly
in resolving problems.
The Costs of Color Decay
• Color decay could occur within the first few hundred hours of use.
• Color decay also adversely affects overall image quality by lowering con-trast, lessening readability, and dulling brightness.
The Importance of Color Accuracy
• Bold, brilliant colors simply captivate student interests better than dull faded colors, making the projected content more interesting and fun.
• Color accuracy is vital for such educa-tional content as charts, tables, graphs, and maps.
• It is a proven fact that DLP projectors maintain 100% color accuracy well beyond few thousand hours of usage, translating to a much more cost-effec-tive projector.

Short-ThrowShorter Projection Distance
Better Classroom Management
Got a small-sized classroom? That’s no problem! The
BenQ short-throw projectors – refined with BenQ’s mar-
ket leading short throw technology – only need half of the
projection distance of traditional projectors to project a
full sized image! These short-throw projectors come with
a special aspherical lens precisely calculated and posi-
tioned to deliver a large-screen projection in tight spaces
without jeopardizing picture quality.
By keeping the projector close to the screen, teachers gain
much better control over their classrooms. With the pro-
jector placed in front of the class, rather than in the back,
nothing can ever come between the projector and the
screen. Classroom furniture, book edges and even stu-
dents can sometimes interrupt teaching sessions by creat-
ing distracting shadows on the projection screen! In addi-
tion, short-throw technology means no projector glare in
the teachers’ eyes, meaning they can maintain face to face
contact with students.

High BrightnessClarity is Critical for Effective Instruction
Projector brightness is a major issue when it comes to pres-
entation settings that are bigger in size such as large class-
rooms, lecture halls, and auditoriums. The same can be
said for venues characterized by bright ambient lighting.
To accommodate such settings, presenters usually dim
the lights to gain projection clarity. However, this often
results in losing control of the audience in the near dark-
ness and people struggling with note-taking or even sim-
ply staying awake.
BenQ’s high brightness projector models enable lights-
on instruction in even the largest venues. Colors are eye-
popping while readability is easy on the eyes!
Ideal for
Large-Sized Classrooms
Lecture Halls, and
Auditoriums
Projection Clarity Depends On… How Big The Classroom IsBig settings require big screens, making projection brightness less concentrated. How Bright Ambient Lighting IsThe more ambient lighting, the lesser image clarity. Whether Or Not Lights Can Be DimmedBrightness level is not an issue in a darkened room. However, clarity may suffer greatly if lights cannot be dimmed and/or windows cannot be covered completely.

tent like DVD movies into a luxury cinema-like experi-
ence. So if you’re ready for big-screen enjoyment without

HQV
An enormous leap has been taken in fine-tuning the
Chroma & Luma Transition Enhancement, noise reduc-
tion, and detail enhancement! BenQ Home Projectors
built with the HQV technology – now takes projection to
a brand new level!
Electronic Iris
For optimal viewing, the BenQ home projectors come
with 4 viewing modes (Cinema, Dynamic, Standard,
and Photo) that you can select, plus 3 memory slots that
you can calibrate to your own preferred settings. The ad-
vanced continuous electronic Iris works like your own
eye. It widens and narrows, letting out as much light as
necessary to match the selected contrast range.
DynamicBlack™
The BenQ Home Series together with Texas Instruments’
DynamicBlack™, the contrast technology provides a sec-
ond level of Iris control that enhances contrast based on
the exact image being shown. Darkened scenes? No prob-
lem. DynamicBlack™ digitally examines source video to
determine the appropriate Iris aperture for the level of
light present in a given scene and open and close the pro-
jector iris accordingly. When it’s darker, the Iris closes to
boost contrast. When it’s lighter, the iris will open.

The Essentials Caring for
Your Projector
◊ Read the user manual. It’ll give you all the instructions
you need for properly using your new projector.
◊ Practice makes perfect. Become familiar with all the
functions before using the projector for the first time
with your class. Practice setting up the projector sev-
eral times to remember the steps.
◊ Be gentle. Carefulness is key! Do not move, shake,
bump, or jostle your projector when it is on. You may
accidentally damage the lamp, which is very sensitive
to movement when in use.
◊ Patience is a virtue. Wait at least one minute before
turning your projector off. Allowing time for the unit
to cool will help extend lamp life. Remember, exces-
sive heat can greatly shorten the life of your lamp.
◊ Keep it cool and moisture-free. Not only should you
let your projector cool properly, you should also avoid
operating or storing it under direct sunlight or near
a heat source. Additionally, make sure your projector
stays dry. Humidity harms image quality plus short-
ens lamp life.
◊ Give it breathing room. Check to see where the ex-
haust vent is and make sure nothing obstructs it.
Blocked or restricted air flow will cause overheating
and faster lamp burnout.
◊ Proceed with caution. Replacing your projector lamp
is not as difficult as you might have thought. Usually,
all you have to do is turn a few screws and switch out
the lamp. However, it’s best to go over the instruc-
tions in the user manual before attempting to install
the lamp yourself since the lamp housing and glass
are quite fragile.
◊ Pay attention. If you hear any strange sounds coming
from the projector when it’s in use, turn it off or un-
plug it immediately.
