BASIC SAFETY RULES1. NEVER POINT A FIREARM AT SOMETHING THAT IS NOT SAFE TO SHOOT.

Never let the muzzle of afirearm point at any part ofyour body or at anotherperson. This is especiallyimportant when loading orunloading the firearm. When you are shooting ata target, know what isbehind it. Some bullets cantravel over a mile. If youmiss your target or if thebullet penetrates the target,it is your responsibility toensure that the shot does not cause unintended injury or damage.

    2. ALWAYS TREAT A FIREARM AS IF IT WERELOADED.Never assume that a firearm is unloaded. Theonly certain way to ensure that a firearm hasthe chamber(s) empty is to open the chamberand visually and physically examine the insideto see if a round is present. Removing orunloading the magazine will not guarantee thata firearm is unloaded or cannot fire. Shotgunsand rifles can be checked by cycling or removingall rounds and by then opening and inspecting thechamber so that a visual inspection of the chamberfor any remaining rounds can be made.

  • 33

    3. STORE YOUR FIREARM SO THAT CHILDREN CANNOT GAIN ACCESS TO IT.It is your responsibility to ensure that children under the age of 18 or otherunauthorized persons do not gain access to your firearm. To reduce the risk ofaccidents involving children, unload your firearm, lock it and store theammunition in a separate locked location. Please note that devices intended toprevent accidents - for example, cable locks, chamber plugs, etc, - may notprevent use or misuse of your firearm by a determined person. Firearm storage ina steel gun safe may be more appropriate to reduce the likelihood of intentionalmisuse of a firearm by an unauthorized child or person.

    4. NEVER SHOOT AT WATER OR AT A HARDSURFACE.Shooting at the surface of water or at a rock orother hard surface increases the chance ofricochets or fragmentation of the bullet or shot, which can result in the projectile striking anunintended or peripheral target.

    5. KNOW THE SAFETY FEATURES OF THE FIREARM YOU ARE USING, BUTREMEMBER: SAFETY DEVICES ARE NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR SAFEHANDLING PROCEDURES.Never rely solely on a safety device to prevent an accident. It is imperative that youknow and use the safety features of the particular firearm you are handling, butaccidents can best be prevented by following the safe handling proceduresdescribed in these safety rules and elsewhere in the product manual. To furtherfamiliarize yourself with the proper use of this or other firearms, take a FirearmsSafety Course taught by an expert in firearms use and safety procedures.

  • 34

    8. ALWAYS WEAR PROTECTIVE GLASSES ANDEARPLUGS WHEN SHOOTING.The chance that gas, gunpowder or metal fragmentswill blow back and injure a shooter who is firing a gunis rare, but the injury that can be sustained in suchcircumstances can be severe, including the possibleloss of eyesight. A shooter must always wear impactresistant shooting glasses when firing any firearm.Earplugs or other high-quality hearing protectors helpreduce the chance of hearing damage from shooting.

    9. NEVER CLIMB A TREE, FENCE OR OBSTRUCTION WITH A LOADEDFIREARM. Open and empty the chamber(s) of your firearm and engage the manual safetybefore climbing or descending a tree or before climbing a fence or jumping over aditch or other obstruction. Never pull or push a loaded firearm toward yourself oranother person. Always unload a firearm, visually and physically check to seethat the magazine, loading mechanism and chamber are unloaded, and action is

    6. PROPERLY MAINTAIN YOUR FIREARM.Store and carry your firearm so that dirt or lint does notaccumulate in the working parts. Clean and oil yourfirearm, following the instructions provided in thismanual, after each use to prevent corrosion, damageto the barrel or accumulation of impurities which canprevent use of the gun in an emergency. Always checkthe bore and chamber(s) prior to loading to ensure thatthey are clean and free from obstructions. Firing withan obstruction in the barrel or chamber canrupture the barrel and injure you or others nearby. In the event you hear an unusual noise when shooting, stop firing immediately, engage the manual safety andunload the firearm. Make sure the chamber and barrelare free from any obstruction, like a bullet blocked inside the barrel due to defectiveor improper ammunition.

    7. USE PROPER AMMUNITION.Only use factory-loaded, new ammunition manufactured to industry specifications:CIP (Europe and elsewhere), SAAMI (U.S.A.). Be certain that each round you useis in the proper caliber or gauge and type for the particular firearm. The caliber orgauge of the firearm is clearly marked on the barrels of shotguns and on the slideor barrel of pistols. The use of reloaded or remanufactured ammunition canincrease the likelihood of excessive cartridge pressures, case-head ruptures orother defects in the ammunition that can cause damage to your firearm and injuryto yourself or others nearby.

  • 35

10.AVOID ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ORJUDGMENT / REFLEX IMPAIRING MEDICATIONWHEN SHOOTING.Do not drink and shoot. If you take medication thatcan impair motor reactions or judgment, do nothandle a firearm while you are under the influence ofthe medication.

11.NEVER TRANSPORT A LOADED FIREARM.Unload a firearm before putting it in a vehicle(chamber empty, magazine empty). Hunters andtarget shooters should load their firearm only at theirdestination, and only when they are ready to shoot. Ifyou carry a firearm for self-protection, leaving thechamber unloaded can reduce the chance of anunintentional discharge.

12.LEAD WARNING.Discharging firearms in poorly ventilated areas, cleaning firearms, or handlingammunition may result in exposure to lead and other substances known to causebirth defects, reproductive harm, and other serious physical injury. Have adequateventilation at all times. Wash hands thoroughly after exposure.

open before handing it to another person. Nevertake a firearm from another person unless it isunloaded, visually and physically checked to confirmit is unloaded, and the action is open.

    ASSEMBLY

WARNING: Beretta assumes no responsibility for any injury or propertydamage resulting from improper or careless handling, intentional or accidentaldischarge of the firearm.

    OVER AND UNDER

Remove the fore-end from the barrels bypulling the fore-end catch lever down(Fig. 7). Do not attempt to assemble barrelsto receiver with the fore-end attached!

Wipe excess rust preventative oil from theMonobloc and from the inside surfaces ofthe receiver (Fig. 9). Swab the bores with aclean cotton patch held on a cleaning rod toremove excess oil.

CAUTION: The hinge pin area is a veryimportant mating surface. The receiver andfore-end iron are subject to very high loads:improper lubrication of these componentscan cause seizing of parts or malfunctioningof the shotgun. (The areas to lubricate areindicated by the arrows on Fig. 9). Beforeusing this shotgun, make sure that lubricantis present as instructed.

Open the top lever to the right (Fig. 11).When barrels are not assembled to thereceiver, the top lever remains locked in theopen position (right).

CAUTION: The top lever must be in theopen position before the barrels areassembled. Failure to do so will causedamage to the ejectors.

Insert the Monobloc inside the action sothat the hinge pins of the receiver fit into thecorresponding slots in the Monobloc. Besure the small lugs of the ejectors (see thearrow on fig. 13) engage theircorresponding slots in the receiver beforeclosing the gun. Fig. 13

Swing the barrels upward smoothly andevenly. When the top lever snaps to itscentered position, the barrels are lockedinto the action. Fig. 15

    SIDE-BY-SIDE

Remove the fore-end from the barrels bypressing the fore-end push button (Fig. 8).Do not attempt to assemble barrels toreceiver with the fore-end attached!

Wipe excess rust preventative oil from theMonobloc and from the inside surfaces ofthe receiver (Fig. 10). Swab the bores witha clean cotton patch held on a cleaning rodto remove excess oil.

AMMUNITIONWARNING: Beretta assumes no responsibility for physical injury or propertydamage resulting from the use of defective, improper, hand-loaded, reloadedor remanufactured ammunition. Serious damage and injury, and even death, could result from the use of incorrect ammunition, from firing against boreobstructions and from propellant overloads.

WARNING: Carefully inspect each cartridge before it is inserted into thechamber. Be certain the cartridge cases are not split, deformed, or thecartridges do not possess any other dents or defects (this applies even tofactory ammunition).

WARNING: Do not use reloaded or handloaded ammunition. Berettaassumes no liability for incidents occurring through the use of reloadedammunition. Use of reloaded ammunition will void the manufacturerswarranty.

WARNING: Do not store firearms in places which are or could be accessibleby children or other persons whose unfamiliarity with firearms might lead tounsafe use. Always store your firearms securely and unloaded, separate fromammunition. (See point 3 of the BASIC SAFETY RULES).

Beretta over-and-under and side-by-side shotguns feature 2 3/4" (70 mm) and 3"(76 mm) chambers. Models with 3 1/2" (89 mm) chambers are also available. You willfind the markings for the gauge and chamber length for your shotgun on the side ofthe barrel. Every gun has been tested with special proof test ammunition.

WARNING: Never use cartridges that do not correspond to the markings onthe side of the barrel.

WARNING: Use only cartridges with a length equal to or less than thechamber length indicated on the side of the barrel.

  • 40

The use of steel shot cartridges is not recommended in either over and under andside-by-side shotguns with fixed chokes. Beretta "SP" (Steel Proof) Mobilchokeand Optimachoke tubes are designed for use with factory steel shot cartridgesloaded to standard specifications. The best results with Beretta "SP" choke tubes areobtained using open chokes (C0000/CL, 0000/IC, 000/M). Use of full chokeconstriction (0/F, 00/IM) with steel shot does not increase pattern density and willdistort normal pattern density associated with lead shot (i.e. blow pattern). Seeparagraph: (Beretta Mobilchoke and Optimachoke tubes).

    STEEL SHOT

LOADING AND FIRINGWARNING: Read and familiarize yourself with the loading and unloadingprocedure for this shotgun by reading this manual prior to using the shotgun.Do not use a loaded firearm until you can perform these procedures correctly. Before loading the gun, make sure that the safety is on. A safety is fullyengaged only when it can move no further into the safe position. In thatposition the marking S is fully visible (Fig. 1-3-5). A safety which is not fullyengaged will not prevent weapon discharge. Always point the firearm in a safedirection! Always check the barrels prior to loading to ensure that they areclean and free from obstruction.

With the gun assembled (see ASSEMBLY OPERATIONS), rotate the top lever tothe right and open the chamber by rotating the barrels downwards.

Hold the barrels up to the light and look down the barrels to make sure that theyare free of any obstructions.

Insert a cartridge of the proper gauge into the chamber of the barrel you want touse, or into both chambers for two shots.

Close the gun. Be sure that the top lever has moved fully to its center position.Engage the safety if it is not already engaged.

WARNING: The shooter and bystanders must always wear eye and hearingprotection. Particles of shot, lead, powder, lubricant, etc. may cause injury topersons. Hearing protection reduces the risk of hearing damage caused byexposure to shooting noise.

WARNING: The manual safety is merely a mechanical device an is in no waya substitute for the Basic Safety Rules of firearm handling.

WARNING: To avoid use of improper ammunition, check markings on thecartridge box and on the cartridge itself to ensure that the correct gauge andlength of shell is used for your firearm.

  • 41

NOTICE: Some models feature an auto-safety device that automaticallyengages the safety every time the top lever is rotated when opening thebarrels.

NOTICE: If the gun features a DOUBLE TRIGGER, the pull on the fronttrigger allows to fire the cartridge inserted into the first barrel (the lower-one inthe over and unders and the right-one in the side-by-sides) and the pull on therear trigger allows to fire the cartridge inserted into the second barrel (theupper-one in the over and unders and the left-one in the side-by-sides).

If the gun features a SINGLE TRIGGER, the pull on the trigger allows the gunto fire first the cartridge inserted into the first barrel and then the cartridgeinserted into the second barrel. If the gun features a SINGLE SELECTIVE TRIGGER, the pull on the triggerallows the gun to fire first the barrel you have selected with the barrel selector: (Selector to the left) = first barrel (Fig. 3, 4). (Selector to the right) = second barrel (Fig. 5, 6).

WARNING: Always point the firearm in a safe direction. Always keep yourfingers away from the trigger and keep it free from any form of contactwhenever you do not intend to fire. Never point the firearm at something that isnot safe to shoot.

When you are ready to fire, disengage the safety and pull the trigger. This will firethe barrel you have selected to fire first.

WARNING: If the gun does not fire on a live cartridge when the trigger ispulled, activate the safety, wait one minute, then open the chamber andmanually extract the unfired cartridge.

NOTICE: The Manufacturer assumes no responsibility for any injury orproperty damage resulting from improper or careless handling, intentional oraccidental discharge of the firearm.

Completely release the trigger after the first shot to re-set the gun for the next shot. There is no need to operate the barrel selector (if present) since the gun isautomatically ready to fire the second cartridge.

To fire a second shot from the second barrel, pull the trigger again or pull thesecond trigger.

  • 42

CORRECT UNLOADING SEQUENCE (Fig. 22) After firing or to otherwise unload the gun, engage the safety, move the top lever to

the right, open the chamber by holding the receiver in place and by rotating thebarrels downwards.

The automatic, selective ejectors will only eject spent shell casings. Unfiredcartridges will only be extracted (not ejected). Extract them manually.

Prior to closing the action, inspect the chambers. Be sure both are unloaded. The automatic, selective ejectors will only eject spent shell casings. Unfired

cartridges will only be extracted (not ejected). Extract them manually. Prior to closing the action, inspect the chambers. Be sure both are unloaded.

UNLOADING THE SHOTGUNWARNING: Do not rely on ejectors to unload your firearm! The selectiveejectors do not eject live ammunition. They eject spent shell casings when thechamber is locked opened, while the unfired cartridge/s will be only pulled up.To unload the gun, manually remove the live cartridge/s and check to ensurethat both chambers are unloaded.

NOTICE: If the gun features an ejector/extractor selector, the ejector can betransformed into extractor and vice versa by rotating the selector device.(Fig. 21)

DECOCKING THE HAMMERSDecock the hammers using the procedure described below when the gun isunloaded to allow the springs to remain in an uncompressed state.

CAUTION: It is important not to decock the hammers on an unloaded gunwithout the use of snapcaps to avoid damage to the firing pins.

Procedure: Open the gun and unload it. (See paragraph "Unloading the shotgun"). Insert snapcaps into the chambers. Beretta snapcaps are available in the best gun

shops. Pull the trigger to decock the first hammer. Move the selector to the second position. (On some models this is not possible

since the selector is blocked by a screw.)

NOTICE: If the gun features a SINGLE NON-SELECTIVE TRIGGER or aSELECTIVE, BLOCKED TRIGGER (inertia type) it is necessary to sharply tapthe butt, with your hand, to be able to decock the second hammer.

WARNING: Always unload your firearm before placing it in a vertical positionsuch as against a wall, fence, tree, etc. The gun may fall from a standingposition with sufficient force to be discharged.

  • 43

Pull the trigger to decock the second hammer.

To take out the snapcaps without recocking the hammers: Remove the fore-end before you open the gun. Take out the snapcaps, close the gun and replace the fore-end.

DISASSEMBLYWARNING: Always be certain the gun is unloaded before attemptingdisassembly.

    ADJUSTABLE STOCK WITHMEMORY SYSTEM

The adjustable stock features a Memory System device. It allows to fit the stock bymodifying the drop (at comb and at heel) and the cast (right or left). The adjustable stock of your shotgun is factory preset with standard measures ofdrop and cast.

WARNING: Check that the firearm is unloaded.

    ADJUSTING THE CAST

FOR BERETTA OVER AND UNDERS SUPPLIED WITH MEMORY SYSTEMADJUSTABLE STOCK

Unscrew, with the supplied wrench, the two side screws of the adjustable comb(Fig.37)

Lift the adjustable comb off of the stock. Loosen the locking screws of the adjustment mechanism (Fig 38) and move it to

the right or to the left, obtaining the required amount of cast. Tighten the locking screws of the adjustment mechanism, always using the

supplied wrench (Fig. 39). If you want to memorize this position for future adjustments, move the arrows of

the two sliders (positioned on the sides of the adjustment mechanism) tocorrespond with the cast indicator situated at the base of the mechanism itself(Fig. 39-arrow A). Two scales, at the base of the adjustment mechanism, willindicate the cast position (Arrow B). The sliders and the scales will help you toimmediately reset the adjustment mechanism according to the positions previouslymemorized.

Reassemble the adjustable comb on the stock. Completely tighten the two side screws of the adjustable comb to lock it in the

    required position.

CAUTION: Use only the supplied wrench.

    ADJUSTING THE DROP

Unscrew the two side screws of the adjustable comb and loosen (by only half-a-turn of the wrench) the central memory screw. (Fig. 40)

Move the front and/or the rear part of the adjustable comb upwards or downwardsto obtain the required drop measurement.

Completely tighten only the two side locking screws of the adjustable comb. Once the drop adjustment is correct, tighten the central memory screw.

  • 51

NOTICE: The tightening of the central memory screw locks the dropposition. When you disassemble the adjustable comb from the stock, (tomodify the cast or for cleaning), it is sufficient to unscrew only the two sidescrews. When you reassemble it, the memorized drop will be re-established.

CAUTION: Periodically inspect your Memory System device. Dirt and dustcan interfere with the functioning of the adjustment mechanism. The device ismade of a high strength technopolymer, reinforced by carbon fibers, that doesnot require lubrication. Avoid the use of oils or solvents.Clean the surfaces bysimply wiping them down with a clean cloth.

CAUTION: Use only the supplied wrench.

Check the adjustment of the cast, by mounting the shotgun. To finely adjust the drop, loosen both the central memory screw and the two side

screws by half-a-turn. When you move the adjustable comb, it will click betweenpositions by small increments.

When the correct position is found, tighten the three screws.
