BERKLEE DORM
BERKLEE DORM: A HOUSE FOR (40) MUSICIANSCritic: Carol Burns
Berklee College of Music is a school without a campus. Boston’s sidewalks, rooftops, and clubs are appropriated as institutional spaces. This project’s citing seeks to clarify Berk-lee’s de facto institutional posture as a diffuse urban campus. The architectural organization takes cues from the rigid ag-gregate urbanism of the Back Bay. In opposition to the linear aggregation of the neighboring rowhouses, the dorm rooms aggregate densely and entropically into suites leaving loosely configured, semi-public in-between spaces that provide for a variety of activities, performance, and hybrid programs.
