Welcome to the History and Languages Visit to Berlin 2012 - Introductory talk.

This is a very exciting time as this is the first time we’ve offered a visit to Berlin. DAY ONE – Tuesday 3rd Aril 2012 05.15 Depart Woodlands School. We’re off! Coach transfer to E. Midlands Airport.09.30 Depart EMA (Ryanair or Easyjet)12.25 E.T.A. Berlin Schonefeld Airport.14.30 Visit to The Brandenburg Gate.

DAY TWO – Wednesday 4th April 08.30 Breakfast.09.30 Sightseeing Coach Tour of Berlin Part 1 Includes: Reichstag Building, Pottsdam Square , remains of the Berlin Wall, Soviet War Memorial , a view of the former entrance to Hitler's bunker and the former Gestapo

Headquarters. 11.30 Visit to The Berlin Jewish Museum.

16.30 Visit to The KaiserWilhelm Memorial Church. A new church was built in 1961, next to the ruins. Inside there is a moving

depiction of the Madonna and Child drawn by a German doctor shortly before Christmas 1942 at the seige of Stalingrad. There is also a memorial to the men and women who lost their lives in the July 1944 plot to overthrow Hitler.

DAY THREE – Thursday 5th April 2012 08.30 Breakfast and then leave to go to Oranienburg.11.00 E.T.A. Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp.

One of Germany’s most iconic buildings which destroyed by a suspicious fire in 1933 is now home to its parliament (the Bundestag) again. The price of £600.00 is a fully inclusive visit which includes the following:

We suggest that your child should bring some pocket money to spend at the airport, in the museum, to buy some snacks (these are teenagers after all!) and of course a present or two for you.

What next... If you want your child to go then deposits can be paid now or they can be sent to Mrs Perry in the Humanities Office by 30th March 2011.
