The richly de-tailed space becomes a container for narr ative, producing stories that emerge from its well-designed core and new worlds beyond the rules of the reality in which we live. This panel will discuss ways to build experiences and worlds in which stories unfold in new mind-blowing ways, redefining the limits of design and narrative, moving into a landscape where art and science, design and engineering are inseparable.

Salles (On the Road), widely known for sending his characters off to discover their inner selves on long and winding trips, meets up with German director Sebastian Schipper. of Walls and Wonders
17:00–18:30 | HAU1
Andreas Dresen, Wolfgang Kohlhaase, Clemens Meyer. Moderated by Verena von Stackelberg. In cooperation with Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg.The collapse of the Berlin Wall and the GDR was followed by a brief moment in time in eastern Germany where space seemed un li-mited and freedom was an ideal to be tested and lived to the fullest. These feelings form the background for As We Were Dream ing, the Berlinale Competition entry directed by Andreas Dresen and adapted for the screen by Wolfgang Kohlhaase from the bestselling novel by Clemens Meyer. Repre senting three generations that personally experienced this electric time in the East, Dresen, Kohlhaase and Meyer will describe their process of ad apting from memory to novel to screen a very loaded historical mo m ent that lingers in the space of imagination of many Germans.

Isona Admetlla, Vincenzo Bugno. In cooperation with World Cinema Fund. Innovative forms, fresh perspectives and local stories from across the globe are supported by the World Cinema Fund, a joint initiative of the Berlinale and the German Federal Cultural Foundation, in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut and with further support from the Federal Foreign Office. Independent productions from regions with little access to funding, such as Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Central and Southeast Asia and the Caucasus, are its focus. “Our goal is to support bold and undiscovered cinema. De-veloping an intensive cooperation with direc-tors and producers is one of our priorities,” says project manager Vincenzo Bugno. Palme d’Or winning Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives by Apichatpong Weerasetha kul is one of many successful films support ed by the World Cinema Fund. Project manager Vincenzo Bugno and Isona Admetlla will dis -cuss the aims of the initiative, the breadth of works and regions considered and how film-makers can apply with their projects.
