Dear Dr. Shank:

Thank you very much for your fine and interesting letter of the 22nd in regard to Dr. Hugh Chaplin.

The information you have sent will be exceedingly helpful to us in coming to a decision on his request for fellowship aid and I shall see that it comes to the attention of other members of our committee. I am interested also in your state¬ ment indicating your intent to promote him to the rank of an associate professor within the coming year.

Thank you for your help in this matter,

Sincerely yours,

Roderick Heffron, &.D.

Dear GLlie:

John Eberhart and I are in the process of working out our travel schedule for the fall, and we have tentatively put down the week of November k as an optimal time from our standpoint to visit you and the others at Washington University. At the end of last April, as you no doubt know, Bob Shank came in and talked with Dr. Evans and the two of us about some of the interesting developments that have occurred in the School since we last saw you, and this is one reason why we have thought that a visit at this time would be a good idea in order to enable us to get a ratxier more firsthand acquaintance with current developments in the School.

How would it be if we planned to come to St. Louis the afternoon of November h and to stay until Thursday morning, the 7th? I should think that would give us enough time for a reasonably leisurely visit throughout the school generally. Would you be good enough to wire me Monday if that timing is satisfactory from your standpoint, assuming that people like Chancellor Shepley, Bob Shank, Ed Gildea, Dr. Chaplin and others will be available sometime during the visit.

I hope that things will work out as outlined, but don’t hesitate to say so if there is some serious conflict.

In any case, I'll be looking forward to seeing you at the AAMC meetings in Atlantic City.

Sincerely and with kind regards,

Charles 0. Warren, M.D. Dr. GLiver H. Lowry Office of the Dean J Washington University School of Medicine St. Louis 10, Missouri

Dear Dr. Evans*

It was a real pleasure to have you visit us a few weeks ago and all of us were pleased at the recognition you received in the Alumni Achievement Award.

In our discussion of that day I promised that I would plan to spend some time with you on an early visit to New York. I plan to be in New York on April 2iith and would be very pleased to have the opportunity to visit with you at that time and to discuss some of the new developments in our teaching program here.

With best personal regards.

Sincerely yours,

Robert E. Shank, M. D.

Dear Dr* Heffront

I am very grateful to you for having afforded

me the opportunity the other day to discuss

our problem relating to a new clinic building at Washington University, and the location of

the Department of Preventive Medicine in it. You were very helpful to me.

Having had the opportunity to discuss the

problem with you and in another setting was of

assistance in clarifying my thinking. The problem remains, but I am hopeful that somehow

we may be enabled to resolve it.

With best personal regards.

Sincerely yours.
