    1 GRAM FLOUR

    1.1 Introduction

    Gram dal milling is an important industry, supplying flour of gram dal to mankind. Flour milling

    has been known from a very early date. Besan is used for day to day food products in houses

    of rich and poor for variety of tastes and has several uses across the country and throughout

    the year. It is made from Gram dal and is very popular especially in Western part of the

    country. It is used in sweet as well as spicy food and snacks preparations. This proect can

    be set up in many !tates of India as Gram "al is cultivated almost throughout the country.

    The preferred location is #adhya $radesh.

    1.2 Objective

    The primary obective of the model report is to facilitate the entrepreneurs in understanding

    the importance of setting up unit of gram flour. This model report will serve as guidance to the

    entrepreneurs on starting up such a new proect and basic technical knowledge for setting up

    such a facility.

    1.3 Raw Material Availability

    The maor raw material re%uired is Gram splits &"al'. #adhya $radesh and nearby states of

    #aharashtra and Guarat grow substantial %uantity of Gram splits.

    The total capacity of the unit is 2:() #t per annum.

    1.5.4 anufacturin process

    The process of manufacturing %uality gram flour involves four maor processes, as eCplained

    below.

    ;liminate pebbles, broken grains and other impurities from Gram.

    Based on physical properties of gram dal, remove other coloured

    gram halves. Water content, if any, should be removed by drying to

    maintain minimum 2( to 2*D moisture.

    The gradual milling system should be adopted for milling and operation

    consists of breaking, scalping and purification, reduction and dressing.

    !ometimes, finished eCcellent flour &besan' is miCed to obtain a

    standard and uniform desired properties, characteristics and colour.

    The process is simple compared to wheat, rice, maiEe milling units.

    The cost of the various components will depend on the location of the proect. Item wise

    assumptions are as under

    To install this production capacity, following maor machineries are re%uired, costing about

    4s. >) lacs. The process of manufacturing is very well standardiEed with four maor

    processes as stated before. #aor items of e%uipments are milling separator, aspirator,

    cyclonetype dust collector, double roller mill, sifter, bucket elevator, chain feeder and bag

    sewing machine.
