Data privacy laws are emerging around the world ascountries grapple with how to best regulate theprotection of personal data.

Given that online companies may be collecting datafrom individuals across continents, companies need tobe prepared to address foreign privacy laws, many ofwhich have only recently been enacted.

Solong as a data processor merely processes data on behalf of adata controller, the processor’s responsibility should be tofollow its data controller’s instructions and to assist the datacontroller in meeting its privacy and security obligations” (ÁlexPessó).
