It’s a drizzly evening in Hyde Park, and Dalehna Maubec, the singing sensation, is sat quietly in the dappled light on a tartan picnic blanket, holding a huge black umbrella. With her is guitar prodigy

Jake Bradley, sat in the dappled evening sun dressed in a stylish monochrome outfit avidly describing his plans for the future whilst tapping rhythms on solid surface nearby. Dalehna is a singing superstar from London, England, releasing her debut self-titled album at 17 years old, in which Jake collaborated on 3 songs. Jake is a guitar prodigy from Los Angeles who hit world wide fame after releasing electric guitar covers on YouTube. I was lucky enough to sit down with them for an exclusive interview.

What inspired you to collaborate in the first place?Jake: “The thing which inspired us to work together, was really the fact that we already admired each other’s work, and we both wanted to work with each other, which I think is quite rare in the industry nowadays,”Dalehna: “Yeah I totally agree, a lot of the time artists collaborate with each other to make money or promote their own brand to a new audience, but in our case, we just really wanted to make music together and see where it would go.”

Dalehna, what would you say are some of your biggest musical influences?Dalehna: “I’m a huge 5 Seconds of Summer fan, but I think the biggest musical inspiration for me has to be Blink-182. In my eyes their self-titled album from 2003 redefined the pop-rock genre, and paved the way for artists like me to help the genre grow and become artists in a genre which we truly love. I

listen to them daily and they play a huge part in inspiring the music I make and the lyrics I write. And of course newer artists like Jake constantly inspire me to push myself and be the best musician I can be.”

Jake, what would be your dream collaboration, and who with?Jake: “I think for me it would have to be John

Mayer, I mean his guitar skills are legendary and it has been my dream since I was a kid to perform live with him, but I also want to work with icons like Brian May, that would be incredible.”

Where would you like to head next with your music?Dalehna: “I really want to make music which comes from the heart, as well as exploring new techniques with both my vocals and in the production process. We did some experimentation with this in one of the songs I collaborated with Jake on. I also want to continue to make music to which people can relate, that’s really important to me.” Ahead of her 2020 tour, Dalehna is anticipated to reach new heights of stardom, with a second album and worldwide tour to be announced by 2021. Jake: “I really want to push myself and my abilities, so I’ve got some more experimental plans, and then I might take some time off. Not for long, but just enough time to reassess what I want to achieve as an artist and really figure myself out.”

What’s something you want people to experience when listening to your music?Dalehna: “I want people to be able to empathise with my music, I think that’s really important for me - I want to make music which expresses my feelings, and sing about things that my audience can relate to.”
