What medical test should men be sure to get?A PSA (Prostate-Specifi c Antigen) blood test and a digital rectal exam (DRE). The DRE entails a physician briefl y placing a fi nger in the rectum to feel for abnormally fi rm areas of your prostate.

How often should they get this test?Frequency of testing depends on risk factors such as family history, race, age and prior PSA values. Higher-risk patients should undergo yearly testing.

What results can they expect to receive?Higher values may indicate the presence of prostate cancer, but your physician can determine what PSA value is normal for you.

Is this test typically covered by insurance?Yes.

When do men know they need to get this test?Starting at age 40, every man should learn about their individual risk of prostate cancer. This is a good time to obtain a baseline PSA test, even if only for future comparison.

What medical test should men be sure to get? A blood test for testosterone levels.

How often should they get this test?

At least once per year if they are in the optimal range. If they are not in the optimal range, then repeat testing after intervention may be needed every three to six months.

What results can they expect to receive?Low testosterone, or Low T, is usually associated with symptoms of decreased libido, anxiety, irritability, brain fog, insomnia, diffi culty focusing, loss of muscle mass and elevated cholesterol.

Is this test typically covered by insurance?The blood tests are usually covered by insurance.

When do men know they need to get this test?Any male over the ages 35 to 40 should get this test, or if symptomatic, they may need it before, as testosterone levels in men actually start declining by age 30 and sometimes younger.

What medical test should men be sure to get?

A fasting glucose test. This is a simple blood test done when theyve had nothing to eat and only water after midnight.

How often should they get this test?

Yearly, when they are over the age of 40.

What results can they expect to receive?

Normal is less than 100. If the glucose is higher than 100, we will do more lab tests, like an A1C test, to check for diabetes.

Is this test typically covered by insurance?

Yes.

When do men know they need to get this test?

Symptoms of diabetes mellitus include frequent urination, increased thirst, unexplained weight loss and blurry vision.

What preventative care can someone do to avoid developing diabetes?

Just watching your diet and exercise are good fi rst steps.

What medical test should men be sure to get? All men over 35 must have their fasting cholesterol levels checked via a simple blood draw.

How often should they get this test?It can range from semi-annually to every fi ve years, depending on that persons heart disease risk or whether they are on cholesterol lowering medications. Your primary care doctor or cardiologist will assist you in determining frequency of testing.

What results can they expect to receive?A basic cholesterol panel will give you a total cholesterol level (TC), low-density cholesterol (LDL), high-density cholesterol level (HDL) and triglyceride levels (TG). For a man with no heart disease risk factors, optimal cholesterol levels are: less than 200 mg/dl for TC, less than 130 mg/dl for LDL, more than 40 mg/dL for HDL and less than 150 mg/dL for TG.

Is this test typically covered by insurance?Yes, nearly all insurance plans will cover basic cholesterol blood tests.

What medical test should men be sure to get? Men should ask their doctors to check their urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio and blood creatinine level to screen for proper kidney function. This test involves providing a morning urine sample.

What results can they expect to receive? The patient may have an elevated urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio, which indicates loss of protein in the urine, an early sign of kidney disease.

Is this test typically covered by insurance? This test is covered by most insurance plans because early detection of kidney disease is very cost-effective.

When do men know they need to get this test? The majority of men with kidney disease will have no symptoms, so it is very important for men to be screened routinely. Men should be screened yearly if they have risk factors for kidney disease, such as high blood pressure or diabetes, or at age 50 if they have no risk factors for kidney disease.

MetHoD:Pre-heat the oven to 425 degrees.Season the chicken breasts with salt and pepper.

Coat the chicken breasts with peanut butter.Dip the chicken breasts in the panko bread crumbs, pressing on them to coat well. Set them on a baking sheet that has been prepped with non-stick spray.Bake in the oven for 25 minutes. If the chicken is browning too fast, cover it with aluminum foil for the remainder of the cooking. Serve with your favorite peanut sauce or honey mustard.

July is peak season for summer squash with their thin and totally edible skins; no peeling necessary. There are many different varieties, including crookneck squash, zucchini and patty pans that vary in size, shape and color, but they can be used interchangeably in recipes.Look for smooth, blemish-free squashes that are small and tender.

Basic prep: A quick saut is the best way to enjoy fresh summer squashes. Heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add some garlic and red pepper flakes to the pan and cook, stirring often, until fragrant but not browned. Add sliced squash and cook, tossing occasionally until tender, about

4 minutes. Season with salt and pepper and top with some grated Parmesan.

step it up: The flowers of summer squash are not only pretty to look at, but completely edible. Try adding them to a frittata with some goat cheese or feta for a light summer supper.

We are able to use this genetic information and PET imaging technology of the brains plaques and tangles, which are the hallmark of the disease, to design new potential treatments. And we are making progress in the investigation of potential Alzheimers treatments in local clinical trials.

Because just one blistering sunburn in childhood can double a persons chance of developing skin cancer later in life, teach kids to protect their skin from the sun. That includes always using broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher, minimizing outdoor activity between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.when the suns UV rays are most intense,and wearing long sleeves, pants, a hat and sunglasses when outdoors for extended periods of time.

Medical guidelines recommend co-testing with Pap and HPV tests every three to five years for women over 30. This month, a friend invited me to check out Stellar Bodies in Buckhead, which I would describe as a Pilates hybrid class. The star of the hour is a machine called the MegaFormer.
