2019
Once again this June (22nd-29th), Bethany will
be buzzing with the sounds of 100 Youth and
Adults! Marty Gunter and a team of adults will
be heading up the Salkehatchie Summer
Service at Bethany. This mission will be helping
9 homes and families in the area become
warmer, safer and dryer in a weeks time.
Marty and all that are attending ask for prayers
for work safety, as well as, wonderful weather
for all the campers. If you should want to make any contribution,
the camp would love gift cards to home
improvement or hardware stores, as well as
monetary donations can be brought to the
church business office.

Prayer Shawl Ministry The Ministry’s message of caring is simple, universal and enduring. We care and want to bring comfort to those in need. The ministry is active here at Bethany UMC. The simple act of giving a shawl enriches both the giver and the receiver. If you would like to join the Prayer Shawl Ministry, please come to our meetings on the first Monday of each month in Room 119 at 2pm, or call Marge Veneziano @ 843-607-4519. Shawls are available if you would like one, or know someone who could use a “hug,” comfort, or prayer. Recipients are not required to be Bethany Members.
Bethany Quilters Our quilters quilt Tuesday’s 10-3. Bring a bag lunch. Should you quilt and want to join us any time between these hours, bring your needle, thimble and scissors and come enjoy some good fellowship. Our doors are also open to those who want to see the beautiful art of quilting!
PLARNING MINISTRY The Plarning Ministry reaches out to the homeless community to bring comfort
and a little joy. We make sleeping mats using ordinary plastic grocery bags.
The bags are cut into loops and looped together to make plarn balls which can
be crocheted into a 36 inch by 6-foot mat. It prevents them from sleeping on
the ground. No need to know how to crochet. We can
teach you or you can help by cutting the bags and mak-
ing the balls. If you would like to join our ministry,
please come to one or both of our meetings. We meet in
room 122 every Monday from 10-12 and Wednesday
evenings 6:15-7:15. If you have questions you may call
Clara Stonner at (843) 509-2849.
YOGA Classes meet Tuesday and Thursday at 8:30 in the gym. $5 per class. Please bring your own mat.

KidsCare News: School is over for the year but KidsCare is staying
very busy getting ready for a fun Summer Camp!
This summer we are focusing on God’s Word. In
Proverbs we learned to “train up” a child in the way
he should go, and when he is old, he will not part
from it!” We have a great team of leaders teaching
our children to be the hands and feet of Christ. We
will have fun but we will learn Godly principals as we go. We plan to serve God
in many ways this summer and teach the children that it can be FUN to serve.
We are heading out to water parks, beaches, playgrounds and restaurant’s all
over the Charleston area. As people see our buses and our children, and our
awesome T-Shirts, we pray that they see Christ in our actions, words and
deeds. We appreciate your prayers for safety and will promise to bring honor
and Glory to Jesus Christ as we “go and make disciples” along the way! If you
are interested in our Summer Camp, please email us at tthurman@bethany-
umc.com or call (843) 697-4429.
The halls of Bethany CDC are quiet now while children and their families enjoy summer vacation. One school year has ended and now we are already preparing for our new school year. We still have a few openings in our Toddler class (must be 18 months by September 1), Three’s and our kindergarten class if you or someone you know is interested. We are also in need of substitute teachers for the 2019-20 school year. Subbing offers a flexible schedule, great hours and friendly Christian environment. If you are interested in applying for a sub position or you’d like more info about our program, please contact me at [email protected] or call the CDC office 843-821-1946. Have a safe and blessed summer!

Bridges Respite
Respite is for our families of children with special needs. This is a chance for the parents to have some time for themselves. We host these children and their siblings for a night of fun. The upcoming date is Friday, June 21st If you would like more information about our Bridges Respite or would like to volunteer, please contact Jennifer Horres at [email protected].
Trustees Corner: Bethany is adding a level of security for our people. The Trustees have voted to have a security presence on Sunday's during worship hours. Therefore, from 9-1 we will have an off duty Summerville police officer on our premises.
This in no way is a reaction to any problems we have had. Instead we are being proactive in the safety of our congregation.

Summer Sunday School—Begins June 2nd Over the summer, our 1st – 5th grade Sunday School classes will join together in
one large group. We will continue using the Deep Blue Curriculum, but will all
stay together in rooms 213 & 214 for the entire hour. Please drop off and pick
up kids in room 214. Preschool will continue in their regular room and curricu-
lum.
Children’s Church To allow our Children’s Church volunteers a rest, Children’s Church will take a
break over the summer. The last session will be June 2. We will resume on Au-
gust 18. Many thanks to Caroline McInnis, who leads Children’s Church every
Sunday, and her many helpers over the year. Busy bags are available for chil-
dren to use during worship at Word and Table and in the Sanctuary.
Sunday School Teachers Needed We are in the process of securing teachers for our children’s Sunday School classes for 2019-20. As a teacher, you are able to fill our young people with the joy and love that Jesus has for them. It is as much a blessing for you, as for the children. Please prayerfully consider helping out in this most important ministry. There are two teams of teachers per grade level, and they teach on a rotating schedule. All lessons and materials are provided, so preparation time is minimal. Please contact Emily Vick ([email protected]) or Stephanie Mitchum ([email protected]) if you are interested in helping out.
