WELCOME, VISITORS! We are delighted to have you worship with us today. We invite you to participate as fully in our worship service as you feel comfortable. Bethany Church offers a full range of study and fellowship opportunities for children, youth, young adults, and older adults. Sunday school, in session from 9:45-10:45 a.m. each Sunday morning, features several different classes for adults, one class for youth, three classes for children, and a nursery. We invite you to come back to Bethany and get to know us better! For more information please visit www.bethanyumc-gp.org. OUR NURSERY — For the convenience of parents with small children, a nursery is provided during both worship services, as well as during the Sunday school hour. The maximum suggested age for the nursery is four years old. Please see an usher or greeter for directions. ALTAR FLOWERS — The flowers are given today for the glory of God by Linda Reams, in loving memory of my dad, Carl Cecil, and in honor of all cancer survivors.

“WAR ROOM” BIBLE STUDY AND MOVIE PRESENTATION - On Sunday, September 11 from 3‒5 p.m., we will be viewing the movie "War Room," from the creators of "Fireproof" and "Courageous." "War Room" is a compelling drama with humor and heart that explores the power that prayer can have on marriages, parenting, careers, friendships, and every other area of life. "War Room" will inspire each of us to start fighting our battles the right way - through prayer. This screening will be held in the sanctuary and all are welcome. On Monday, September 12 at 2 p.m. & 7 p.m., we will begin a 5-week “War Room” Bible Study for all adults in the WBFH. Cost of the book will be $8.00. The 5 scriptural lessons we’ll be studying are: Dealing with Spiritual Lukewarmness, Christian Accountability, Grasping Grace and the Gospel, Engaging in Spiritual Warfare and Trusting God in Prayer.

Please email Judy Burner at [email protected] if you will be attending. DEADLINE FOR ORDERING BOOKS IS TODAY.

Many thanks to Sandra Thornton (Salvation Army) and our own Austin Kent and Jordan Roane for speaking during our Stewardship Moment last Sunday. All did an outstanding job of sharing how Salvation Army and Helping Hands meet the needs of others in our community and what a blessing it is to be a part of what God is doing through these organizations.

Proverbs 14:31 tells us, “He who oppresses the poor provokes his maker; but he who honors the Lord has mercy on the needy.” Saint Ignatius (1491-1556) said, “Be generous to the poor orphans and those in need. The man to whom our Lord has been liberal ought not to be stingy. We shall one day find in Heaven as much rest and joy as we ourselves have dispensed in this life.” May God bless you richly for using the abilities and resources He has given you to serve and meet the needs of others. — Stewardship Committee

The National Alliance on Mental Illness Mid-Tidewater Affiliate is offering the FREE Family-to-Family program this spring. F2F consists of 12 classes for persons who care for or are related to persons affected with serious mental illness. These classes will start September 28 and will be held at the Board Room at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, Gloucester. Registration is required for the FREE 6 week course. To register or for more information please call: 804-684-1480 (leave a message) or e-mail [email protected]. (See flyer on bulletin board for additional information.)

BUILDING USE REQUESTS for 2016-2017 have been filled out and placed in mailboxes for many of the regularly-scheduled group and committee meetings. If you recently received an email from Dee Dee regarding your form, please be sure to review and edit your meeting details, sign the form, and return it to her as soon as possible so she can put your meeting dates on the church calendar. • These forms are important not only for documenting the use of our facilities but also to avoid schedule conflicts with the many member and non-member groups that meet here year-round. With fall just around the corner the calendar is already beginning to fill up and your help is needed in making sure that everyone has the resources they need. • Thank you for your cooperation and assistance .

THANK YOU for all of your support to my mother and father during Dad’s recent decline and for all of the logistical support during his twice daily hospital infusion appointments. The service was lovely! -- Rebecca Kinkead

C.A.R.E. MINISTRY STARTING IN SEPTEMBER! COME JOIN US!

On September 8, Program Ministries will be launching C.A.R.E. Ministry (Christians Actively Reaching Everyone) to reach out to members and non-members who are sick, need encouragement, have lost loved ones, or are celebrating events. C.A.R.E. will meet on Thursdays from 9:30-10:00 a.m. to write cards, make phone calls, and pray for others. All are invited to join us – whenever and however often you are able. No special qualifications are needed except a loving, caring heart! Help us honor Jesus as we remember his words, “Verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (Matthew 25:40).
