1. Overview

1.1 General Information

Better Price is Magento extension that allows you to keep control of the pricing in your online store. This is an ideal solution for the retailers that have a hard time balancing between the requests of distributors/manufacturers and desires of customers, while maintaining their profit. It gives you a very convenient way to offer lower prices for the items you sell to the selected groups of customers, and sell at any prices you want even when you are bound by a reseller agreement.

This extension allows you to offer discounts on selected products by adding a button to the product detail page. By clicking the button customers can request a lower cost for the items you sell, and you can offer them an attractive price that will drive more sales in your store. Lower prices and discounts will be privately disclosed to the interested customers through email, and not publicly displayed, so you are protected in case the manufacturer has a MAP (minimum advertised price) policy. This process can be completely automated with the discounts and special prices previously set, or you can create a personalized offer for every customer that asks for a discount.

1.2 About this manual

This user manual is intended to be used as a step-by-step guide for installing and configuring Better Price extension for Magento.


2. Installation

2.1 Installation requirements

Better Price extension for Magento is encoded via ionCube. To run it, you must have the ionCube loader (http://www.ioncube.com/loaders.php) installed on your web server. For more information about the ionCube loaders, please visit http://www.ioncube.com or contact your webmaster.

2.2 Installation instructions

In most cases the extension comes in a .zip file ready for extraction to your computer or web server. To install the extension you should extract the files from the archive to your local computer or web server and copy them to the root folder of your Magento website.

Step 1. Before extracting the files you should make sure that compilation and caching options are disabled.

Compilation: Log into your Magento admin panel and go to System->Tools-> Compilation. If the Compiler Status does not read "Disabled", click the Disable button in the upper right corner.

Cache: Go to System->Cache Management to view the current status of your cache. To disable cache options click Select All on the left side, and from the drop-down Actions menu select Disable, then Submit.


Step 2. Extract the extension files

Extract the .zip archive to your local computer or web server and copy the files to your Magento root directory.

Step 3. Refresh Magento cache

Go to Admin->System->Cache Management and click on Flush Magento Cache.

Step 4. Check the installation

After you have successfully installed the extension, go to System->Configuration. There should be the Better Price tab under ExtensionsMall section in the left-hand menu. If you can't see it, then something went wrong with the installation. Please review the steps described above.

We recommend that you log out of Magento backend and log back in when you install Better Price or you could be presented with 404 page when trying to save the extension settings.


3. Setting up Better Price for Products in Your Store

By default Better Price module is enabled, but is not set for any products yet. This module allows you to set up a better price requesting option for each product individually.

Step 1. Go to Catalog->Manage Products and click on a product you want to add the Better Price option to.

Step 2. Click on the Prices tab on the left, and you will see two new fields at the bottom: "Best Price Mode" and "Best Price Discount"

Step 3. From Best Price Mode dropdown you can choose between following options:

• Fixed - a fixed amount that you set will be deducted from the price; • Percent - set a percentage discount on the selected product; • Ask for price - you will receive an email every time a customer requests a better

price, so you can send a personalized offer with custom quote to each customer.


When set to empty, the Better Price module will be disabled for the selected product.

Step 4. In the Best Price Discount field you should enter the amount that you want to be deducted from price if the Best Price Mode is set to "Fixed", or the discount percentage if the Best Price Mode is set to "Percent". There is no need to enter currency or "%" symbol, only the value.

Step 5. Save the product.

This is an example of how the product detail page will look like with the Better Price option enabled:

As you can see, there is a "I want a better price!" button, that allows customers to request a better price for the product.


4. General Settings

Go to System -> Configuration, and click on Better Price on the left-hand menu to open the settings.

Here you can set the following options:

• Enable Better Price Module: enable/disable Better Price in your Magento store; • Coupon expires in: set how many days coupon codes will be valid for; • Select Customer Groups: select the customer groups that the option to request

better price will be available for (the groups that are not selected will not see the "I want a better price" button on the product detail page and won't be able to use the coupon codes)

• Message: enter a custom message for your customers to see when requesting a lower price.


5. How it Works

When a customer clicks on "I want a better price" button on the product details page, the popup with the custom message will be displayed. You can enter any custom message you want in the Better Price General Settings as explained above.

Next, the customer has to enter his email address if he is not logged in, or just click "Send me an offer" button if he is.

If the Best Price Mode is set to "Fixed" or "Percent", the Better Price extension automatically generates one-time purchase coupon code for each customer and each product based on what you've set in backend. The customer then receives an email with all the information about the discounted price and how to get it, including the unique coupon code and the expiration date of the coupon code. The admin also receives the email every time a customer requests an offer.

The whole process is completely automated, which makes it very easy for you to create different campaigns to stimulate customers to buy various products in your store.


In case you've set the Best Price Mode to "Ask for price", every time a customer requests a better price, you will get an email notification with the customer information, so you can send each customer a personalized offer with the custom quote.
