Any kind of fruit can become a fruit juice!

Coffee Not all foreigners know about coffee!

If someone just asks for coffee…

They probably want regular, inexpensive coffee (like at breakfast in the Western Restaurant)

“Would you like regular drip coffee or would you like to see our coffee menu?”

“Is regular drip coffee okay?”

Make a suggestion! “Many people like the (name) coffee”

Coffee Drinks “Coffee” or “Just a cup of coffee” means a plain cup of coffee s

erved with a side of sugar and milk.

Espresso (strong coffee drink)

Latte (espresso with steamed milk)

Cappuccino (espresso, warm milk & milk foam)

Caramel Macchiato (caramel, espresso and steamed milk)

Americano (espresso & hot water)

Mocha (espresso with chocolate and steamed milk)

Iced (Any coffee drink served cold with ice)

Blended (coffee drink blended with ice or a Granita)

Tea “Chinese” is not an acceptable description of tea!

Use questions about tea as an opportunity to teach foreigners about your culture.

Answering Questions

In most places, bartenders / waitresses / waiters have tried all the items on the menu

If you don’t know the answer to a question, do not say “I don’t know”. Tell the guest that you will find out!

If someone looks at the wine list or menu make sure you tell them which wines we are out of before they order.

If someone has too much to drink they are “drunk”

to see the wine list. They can then choose their own

Know what wines we do not have at all times!

Champagne & Sparkling Wine Only special wine with bubbles that comes

from one region in France is actually Champagne – all other bubbly wine is called Sparking Wine

Serve all sparkling wines in a champagne glass

Types of Alcohol Aperitif is the French word for a before

dinner drink

Liqueurs are sweet drinks that normally are served in small quantities

Cognac is from one region of France, it is brown, old and expensive!

Whiskey can be from any country and is brown in color

Types of Alcohol Rum can be brown or clear and is a sw

eet alcohol

Gin is clear, usually comes from the United Kingdom and is frequently mixed with tonic or juice

Vodka is a clear alcohol made from potatoes and is traditionally from Russia

Tequila is a brown alcohol made from the agave cactus in Mexico

Types of Alcoholic Drinks

A cocktail or mixed drink is a drink that is a combination of alcohol and something else, like juice or soda

The martini is a traditional drink to order at a hotel bar – you frequently see this drink in movies (such as 007 or old movies).

Alcohol served just over ice is called “on the rocks”

Alcohol served without ice or anything else is called “neat”.
