What is science? (Think-Pair-Line Share)
Science is a way of knowing. It is how
we learn about the natural world
around us through observations and
experiments.
The nature of science refers to the
key principals of how we learn
science concepts.

discussion and discourse

What is science inquiry?
The National Science Education Standards (NSES p. 23)
defines scientific inquiry as "the diverse ways in which scientists study the natural world and propose explanations based on the evidence derived from their work. Scientific inquiry also refers to the activities through which students develop knowledge and understanding of scientific ideas, as well as an understanding of how scientists study the natural world."

In Other Words…
Science inquiry is:
Exploring, investigating, and observing the world around us
Any activity students do to understand science concepts
Not always experiments, not always scientific method
Explanation of scientific ideas based on evidence
