THOUGHTS FROM THE PRESIDENT: Hello First Militia Chapter! The chapter continues to grow in mem-bership! I am extremely proud of our growth, we have some great officers and members. What I want to try and bridge is getting our attendance up at our Gen-eral Membership meetings. We have over 600 members but only average about 50-70 at our meetings. If we are to reach into the community, have an impact on the Army and sell the Army's story, we need momentum. The Army is in transition right now, growing in numbers, growing in modernization, growing in lethality. I ask you to reach out to me or any chapter officer if you are not getting our emails and communica-tions. In our May meeting we have General Ham from AUSA National coming to be our guest speaker, would really like to have strong showing and be able to show-case what our chapters accomplishments were the past year. You, the backbone of our chapter do a lot for the Army and our community, want to get your story out, you should be proud of what you do to make the community, the state, our nation great. Thank you. grew up in an Army family and attended West Point in
1981. Later serving as a field artillery officer in the
82nd Airborne Division during Operation Urgent Fury.
After graduating from the University of Florida’s Law
Program, he transferred to the Judge Advocate General
Corps later retiring in 2005 as a Colonel. Judge
McGillin provided a detailed briefing on the Veterans
Treatment Court’s approach to reducing the recidivism
for minor charges while providing mental health and as-
sistance to our nation’s veterans. Although still in its in-
fancy in St. Johns and surrounding counties, the pro-
gram has proven to be highly successful in many other
areas. The meeting concluded with a reminder of up-
coming events. We ask that you continue to spread the
word regarding each AUSA event until all of our mem-
bers contact information is updated. Additionally, we
ask that you RSVP in advance so we can ensure the ca-
tering contract covers sufficient food for all attending.

About Us
The First Militia Chapter, Association of the United States Army, was established in November 1994 in St. Augustine, Florida – our nation’s oldest city. Our chapter represents the northeast Florida area, which includes the counties of Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Clay, Columbia, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy, Nassau, Putnam, St. Johns, Suwan-nee, and Union. The Chapter also serves parts of Madison, Mari-on and Volusia Counties with other Florida AUSA Chapters.
As an AUSA chapter our focus is to support AUSA initiatives, represent our Army service members, retirees, and their families, and to support our communities. Our primary service programs include providing annual scholarships to deserving college stu-dents, annually recognizing the Army JROTC programs in our region, and supporting soldiers and their families in our region. To ensure we are able to support our service programs we annu-ally host a chapter golf tournament, which has proven to be a great success. And finally, to ensure involvement and camarade-rie within our organization we hold a quarterly dinner and gen-eral membership meeting that any and all are welcome to attend.
The Association of the United States Army was established in 1950 as a private non-profit organization that works to support all components of the United States Army, which includes the active, National Guard, and Reserve components. The focus of AUSA is to serve as a voice of the United States Army, to pro-mote public awareness and support the Army’s role in our na-tion’s security effort, to provide education and information to promote a better understanding of our Army’s issues and activi-ties, and to provide service and support to our soldiers, their families, and our communities.
As a chapter of the Association of the United States Army we stand proud and ready to serve our nation, state and community. We welcome all who are interested in becoming a member and getting involved in our organization. To become a member of AUSA, First Militia Chapter simply go to www.ausa.org and click on “Become an AUSA member”.
