4,000’ Fueling Line Descaling

Background• A major petroleum company wanted to clean and

inspect two parallel 12” and 14” gasoline terminal pipelines as due diligence prior to purchase.

• Located in Port Everglades, Florida, these pipelines offloaded gasoline from tankers. These same pipelines were then used to send salt water ballast back to the tankers.

• Prior to project start, a number of known miter bends needed to be removed and replaced with forged 3D bends.

Pig Selection

A variety of ultra high density Descaling Pigs were employed for descaling operations. Increasingly aggressive carbide descaling inserts were used as the cleaning progressed. Compressed air provided motive force for the pigs.

Final Results

A total of 159 descaling and flushing runs were made on the two pipelines to bring the internal diameter to bare metal condition.
