Over two years ago, SO Bharat were selected to carry out a program called MISSION INCLUSION for a period of three years. To join them in their endeavors of promoting

inclusion, SO Bharat Youth leaders, with & without intellectual disability, invited the Lions Clubs volunteers and their youth network, LEOs from across India to strengthen and expand their participation in the Special Olympics’ movement Opening Ceremony

The Chief Guest was the Olympic medalist Vijender Singh while H.E. the Ambassador of Ecuador, Mr Hector Cueva Jacome and Dr Lion Naresh Aggarwal Past International President, Lions Clubs International were in attendance as well

Addressing the audience on the occasion, Vijender Singh said, “I strongly believe that in sports, winning and losing are secondary, what's important is that you try. In fact, winning doesn’t teach you anything. When you lose is when you see the real picture. The special athletes are an inspiration for all of us. I am sure this is just the start for Special Olympics Bharat. I look forward to continue being a part of this great initiative.” Air Marshal Denzil Keelor, Founder & CEO of Special Olympics Bharat said, “What we are celebrating here is a very important initiative. We have the Special Olympics

Youth Leaders of SO Bharat and the Leos of the Lions Club coming together here today to hone their

leadership skills. Their incubation in the program, promises to significantly add to our plans for the formation of a unified generation of tomorrow” The event pitched emphatically, for the urgency of Inclusion and the valuable role that the Youth could play in bringing it on. It also demonstrated the small steps in initiating engagements between the youth with and without Intellectual disabilities, as the audience witnessed the event being emceed by Unified pairs. The two Panel Discussions stoked thoughts over Creating Inclusive Communities in India as well as globally.

Three Unified pairs were nominated to be LEOs. A Unified Dance performed by the students of Apeejay School Pitampura and the Upasna Special School, both Unified Champion Schools (with distinction) splashed an essence of entertainment energy and joy.

LIMIT ME” said Siddhant Nath, a former Special Olympics Athlete

and an employee of the SO Bharat National office, as he concluded

In her message to the LEOs - Mrs. Aruna Oswal, International Director of Lions Clubs International and Founder of the Aruna Abhey Oswal Trust Mission Inclusion is a commitment to bring out results. It will take time but

I can see and feel a change taking over. Special Olympics is providing to the

Athletes, what they rightfully deserve. The recognition to the Athletes is for

the talent lying deep inside each and every one of them, something that

would have died unexplored otherwise. The need of the hour is for the LEOs

to get more active. The LEOs want to. And I know that the youth can do

wonders. The seniors have to support and empower them. We need to

activate all the districts and plan an activation strategy of having the Leos

all over, to Play Unified!

The change begins from there. Let us make this our RESOLUTION 2020. The

confidence and exposure which sports brings to the persons with and

without Intellectual Disabilities needs to be nurtured further to integrate

the Athletes in the society thru education, vocation, employment and that

is Inclusion. Inclusion is the Conclusion

Concluding the workshop with Unified Basketball

The Unified Basketball engagement saw an intriguing participation of senior representatives of Special

Olympics and those of a few colleges and universities teaming up with the Athletes.
