Swachh Bharat Activities

College Campus CleaningThe NSS Volunteers of Bharath College of Science & Management,

Thanjavur cleaned the college campus on 09.07.2018. The Volunteerscleaned the unwanted plants, thorn bushes, etc. Around 60 NSS Volunteersparticipated in the cleaning camp. The NSS Programme Officers, Dr. K.Maheswari, Mr. G. Mathivanan, Mr. G. Kalidoss and Mr. R. Karthikconducted the camp.

College Campus CleaningThe NSS Volunteers of BDU Model College, Vedaranyam cleaned the

college campus on 31st August 2018. Around 50 Volunteers under theguidance of the NSS Programme Officer, Dr. T. Raja cleaned the collegecampus.

Blood Donation Camps1. BDU Model College, Vedaranyam

The NSS unit of BDU Model College, Vedaranyam organised a blooddonation on 15.08.2018 in association with the Leo Club. Dr. T. Raja, NSSProgramme Officer welcomed the gathering while Dr. P. Murugan, Principalof college delivered the presidential address.

2. Govt. Arts College, AriyalurThe NSS unit of Govt. Arts College, Ariyalur organised a blood

donation camp on 11.09.2018. The Principal of the college, Dr. P.Palanisamy presided over the programme. Ariyalur District Judge, Ms. D.Sumathi delivered a special address about the importance of Blooddonation. Dr. R. Anitha and Dr. E. Sundararajan from Ariyalur Govt.Hospital Blood Bank collected the blood from the volunteers.

Menstrual Hygiene Management – Slogan Writing CompetitionsThe NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University in association with

Menstrual Hygiene Management Consortium (MHMC) conducted a sloganwriting competition for the NSS Volunteers on “Menstrual HygieneManagement”

The prize distribution programme and a health camp was held on27.07.2018 at Garbarakshagi Mahal, Cantonment, Trichy. The Health

Camp was inaugurated by Mrs. Kannagi Chandrasekaran, AdvisoryCommittee Member, Menstrual Hygiene Management Consortium (MHMC),Dr. A. Charmila, President, Menstrual Hygiene Management Consortium(MHMC), Chairperson, Clinical Research Committee and Federation ofObstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI), Dr. K. Meena,Former Vice Chancellor, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, and Dr.A. Manjula, Secretary, Menstrual Hygiene Management Consortium(MHMC). Around 200 SHG Women also participated in the Health Camp.Sugar testing, blood testing, bone density, etc. were conducted for thewomen.

Dr. K. Meena, Former Vice Chancellor, Bharathidasan Universitydelivered the presidential address. She expressed the awareness ofMenstrual Hygiene must be spread to the rural areas also. She alsodistributed the prizes to the winners and participation certificates.

Breast Feeding Week CelebrationsThe NSS units of Srimad Andavan Arts & Science College, Trichy

organised an awareness programme in view of the Breast Feeding Weekcelebrations on 01.08.2018. Dr. Senthil Kumar, Paediatrician, Govt.

Consumer Awareness ProgrammeThe NSS units of Cauvery College for Women, Trichy and Labour

Department of Tamil Nadu jointly organised Consumer Awarenessprogramme and Complaint tracking system application introductionprogramme on 7th August 2018 in the college premises. In this regard labourdepartment members explained about consumer rights and introducing themobile application to the students. Around 500 NSS Volunteers of thecollege actively participated and downloaded the complaint trackingapplication.

Plastic Awareness ProgrammeThe NSS Units of Idaya College for Women, Kumbakonam organised a

plastic awareness programme on 10.08.2018 in view of the InternationalYouth Day. The volunteers distributed pamphlets to the public andexplained the ill effects of using plastic items.

The NSS Units of Idaya College for Women, Kumbakonam organised atree plantation programme on 20.08.2018.

2. Arputha College of Arts & Science, PudukkottaiThe NSS unit of Arputha College of Arts & Science, Pudukkottai

conducted a tree plantation programme on 24.09.2018 in view of the NSSDay in the college campus. Around 100 Teak saplings were planted by theNSS Volunteers.

Awareness Programme on E-GovernanceThe NSS unit of Govt. Arts College, Ariyalur in association with the E-

Governance Agency organised an awareness programme on E-Governanceon 24.08.2018. Dr. P. Palanisamy, Principal of the college presided over the

programme. Mr. S. John Britto from the Informatics Centre, Ariyalur, Mrs.S. Shanmugapriya and Mrs. P. Meenakshi, E-District Managers were thechief guest for the programme. The Students were trained to obtain NativityCertificate, OBC Certificate, First Graduate Certificate and other 20certificates through E-Service (Internet) and also trained to obtainCommunity Certificate, Income Certificate, etc. ‘UMANG’ Mobile App. NSSProgramme Officer, Dr. V. Karunakaran organised the programme.

Anti-Ragging Awareness ProgrammeThe NSS Unit of Govt. Arts College, Ariyalur organised an awareness

programme on anti-ragging on 04.09.2018. The Principal of the college, Dr.P. Palanisamy presided over the programme. He insisted the importance ofeducation and also explained the ill effects of ragging. The Sub-Inspectionof Police, Ariyalur Police Station was the chief guest for the programme. Heexplained that the ragging students will be punished and penalties will beimposed on them and they cannot continue their education, which will affecttheir future. Sub-Inspector, Ms. Subha, Head constable, Ms. Sumathi andHead constable (Special), Mr. Paramasivam were also present on theoccasion. The NSS Programme Officer of the college, Dr. V. Karunakaranorganised the programme.

Enrolling New Voters in the Voters’ ListThe NSS units of Govt. Arts College, Ariyalur organised a special camp

to enrol new eligible voters in the Voters’ List on 12.09.2018 in the collegeAuditorium. Students who have completed 18 years of age as on01.01.2019 are encouraged to submit the completed Form-6 and the proof ofage and address. These forms will be uploaded in the ElectionCommission’s website. The Principal of the college, Dr. S. Sitrarasuinaugurated the camp. The NSS Programme Officers, Dr. V. Karunakaranand Dr. P. Selvamani organised the camp with the help of Ariyalur DistrictElection Office.

University Level Pre-RD Selection CampThe University level Pre-Republic Day Parade Selection Camp was held

on 20.09.2018 in the university campus. Total of 179 Volunteers turned upfor the selection. A selection committee had been constituted comprising C.Samuel Chelliah, Regional Director of NSS, Chennai Region, Dr. A. LakshmiPrabha, NSS Programme Coordinator and Lt. Dr. N.D. Srinithi Vihahshini,Associate NCC Officer of the university.

Personal Interview and Cultural talentWorkshop on Personality Development

The NSS of Bharathidasan University organised a one day Workshopon Personality Development on 24.09.2018 as part of the Golden Jubileecelebrations of NSS. The Registrar of the University, Dr. G. Gopinath wasthe chief guest for the inauguration programme. Dr. P. Natrajamurthy, NSSProgramme Officer of the university welcomed the gathering. Dr. R.Jegankumar, Assistant Professor and Head, Dept. of Geography offeredfelicitations. In the end, Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha, NSS ProgrammeCoordinator of the University proposed the Vote of Thanks.

During the technical session, Dr. R. Victor Lazarus, AssociateProfessor, Dept. of Management Studies, Bishop Heber College spoke about“Career Guidance for Young and Vibrant Graduates” while Dr. S.M.Soundarya spoke about “Personality begins where comparison ends” andMr. A. Ebenezer Raja explained about “The art of communication is thelanguage of leadership”. Around 100 NSS Volunteers attended theWorkshop. Certificates were presented to all the participants.

Tree Plantation Programme

BDU FEST 2018The Inter-Collegiate Cultural Convergence of Bharathidasan

University (BDU FEST) 2018 was held in the University campus from 28th to30th September 2018. The NSS Coordinator, Dr. A. Lakshmi Prabha was theCultural Coordinator for conducting the BDU FEST 2018. The Programmestarted with the cultural rally on 28th September evening. The 32

competitions were classified into 5 groups namely Literary, Music, Theatre,Dance and Fine Arts. Around 2500 Students from various affiliated collegesfrom the Tiruchirappalli, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Karur, Perambalur,Nagapattinam, Ariyalur and Pudukkottai districts participated in thecompetitions.

The first competition of the BDU FEST 2018 was the cultural rally.Registrar of the University, Dr. G. Gopinath flagged off the cultural rally on28.09.2018 evening. The inauguration function of the BDU FEST 2018 washeld in the Convocation Hall of the university. Professor and Head of theDepartment of Tamil, Dr. U. Alibava welcomed the gathering. Registrar ofthe University, Dr. G. Gopinath presided over the function. Controller of theExaminations, Dr. K. Duraiarasan, Syndicate Members of the University, Dr.M. Murugesan, Dr. J. Chockalingam and Dr. M.S. Nageswaran offeredfelicitations. Cauvery College for Women, Trichy won the first place in theCultural Rally. Rolling Shield was presented to the college during thefunction.

The Prize distribution ceremony was held on 30th September eveningin the University’s Convocation hall. Dr. N. Murugeswari, Professor, Dept. ofWomen Studies welcomed the gathering. Dr. P. Manisankar, Vice-Chancellor of the University presided over the programme. Dr. S. Subbiah,former Vice-Chancellor, Alagappa University, Karaikudi was the chief guestfor the programme. The Registrar of the University, Dr. G. Gopinath,Syndicate members, Dr. S. Somasundaram, Dr. M.L. Raja, Dr. V. Nithya, Dr.Sasidhar Mulugu, Mr. M. Govindaraj offered felicitations.

The university presented “Panmuga Vithagar” award to Mr. G.Balakrishnan, former Vice Principal, St. Joseph College, Trichy and“Bharatha Kalai Chudar” award to Dr. M. S. Sarala, Director of Fine Arts,Alagappa University, Karaikudi.

The winners of each competition were given prizes. The first threeplaced winners got a memento and a certificate and fourth & fifth placed gotcertificates. Apart from that Rolling shields were presented to best culturalCoordinators, Best Colleges, Best participants, best trainer, etc.

Thanthai Hans Roever College, Perambalur bagged the overall winnersof the competitions while Srimad Andavan Arts & Science College, Trichywas the Overall runners of the BDU FEST 2018. Rolling Shields werepresented to these colleges.

Gandhi Jeyanthi CelebrationsThe NSS Cell of Bharathidasan University in association with the All

India Mahatma Gandhi Social Welfare Trust, Pudukkottai celebrated theGandhi Jeyanthi on 02.10.2018. Several competitions were conducted forthe school and college students and prizes were distributed on the day.

Disaster Management Awareness ProgrammeTo make the awareness to the people and students “Disaster

Reduction Day” was observed on 13.10.2018 by the NSS Units of EGS PillayCollege of Arts & Science, Nagapattinam. An awareness rally was flagged offby DRO in the presence of other officials. The rally started fromNagapattinam Municipality Office and ended at Nagapattinam new busstand. After the rally, fire service team conducted the rehearsal how to savethe peoples from the flood and earth quake and other natural calamities.The college NSS volunteers 100 members participated in this awarenessrally under the guidance of the NSS Programme Officer, Mr. M. Jayakandanand Computer Science Assistant Professor Mr. S. Arunkumar.
