August 2000 – July 2002: Programme Director, Resource Alliance, UK:The Resource Alliance is a non-profit organization building management, communication and resource mobilization capacity of civil society institutions throughout the world. Abhijit had the overall responsibility for planning, delivering, monitoring and impact assessment of the organization’s global capacity building programme. Led a phase of organizational development and expansion of programme through development of strategic partnerships globally. Developed impact assessment methodology and indicators for Resource Alliance’s capacity-building programme for non-profit organizations in fundraising. March 1989 – July 2000: Oxfam GB (in various positions and locations as below):

developing strategically coherent programme which addressed new organizational priorities using rights-based framework for programme development. Was additionally responsible for initiating, overseeing and fundraising for major humanitarian operations in Occupied Palestinian Territories, Yemen, Lebanon, Saharawi refugee camps etc. Reviewed management structures and systems in the entire area, and as part of organization-wide change management, led the process of regionalization in Asia, Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe. Led the process of development of Oxfam’s global programme standards.

July 1996-December 1996: Consultant for Oxfam Caribbean region, Kingston, Jamaica. Developed and implemented strategy to support the regional management in change management involving major restructuring and strategic planning.

June 1995 – June 1996: Country Director, Iraq (based in Baghdad). Was responsible for overall management and strategic direction of Oxfam's post-war recovery and resettlement programme focusing on food security and shelter provision covering both Northern and South/Central Iraq, which were implemented mainly through government departments. Senior level representation. Developed project proposals and raised funds from multi-/bi-lateral donors. Commissioned and managed a review of the country programme which led to major changes in Oxfam’s operations in Iraq.

March 1989 – May 1995. Deputy Country Director, India. Overall responsibility for strategic planning and management of operations, including major emergencies; managing all field offices in the country and senior level representation and resource mobilization.

Aga Khan Foundation Bangladesh (2014) Strategy Consultant: Development of ten-year Strategic Framework and Implementation Benchmarks for an NGO partner which is the second largest NGO in the country, employing over 7,000 staff and a budget of US$ 40 million.

UNDP Maldives (2013-14) Capacity Development Consultant: Strategy development and implementation of capacity building support for development of civil society in Maldives – training and coaching of 25 NGO leaders over a period of one year.
