Did you know drinking ice cold water can cause headaches, especially in people who suffer from migraines? Drinking water has also been tied to causing one’s stomach to contract, making it difficult to digest food.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 1

A generous person will be enriched, and the one who gives a drink of water will receive water. Proverbs 11:25

My family moved to our new house, in a new state, during a summer heat wave. As we unpacked our moving truck, a kind grandpa drove up on a golf cart with ice cold water! It was the most refreshing thing anyone could have given us that day. Though he didn’t know us, he extended generosity. I want to be more like him. When I look around, I can find ways to blessothers each day. It doesn’t take a lot of money, but it does take time and putting others before ourselves. Today, ask God to help you see ways you can be more generous!

For if the eagerness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have.

2 Corinthians 8:12

Everyone has something to give. Sometimes it’s hard to imagine what that might be when you aren’t an adult, but it’s not your age that matters. The generous heart with which you offer counts most. ook carefully and you’ll see needs. Then do what you can with what you have! Perhaps it’s helping your neighbor weed her overgrown flower bed or bakingcookies for a sick friend. As you begin to look and see the needs, I pray God will show you how He has equipped you to start meeting some of them!

Honor the Lord with your possessions and with the first produce of your entire harvest. Proverbs 3:9

When it’s your best friend’s birthday, you want to give her the best gift possible. You may even spend extra time walking up and down the aisles of a store or browsing online to find the perfect present. In thesame way that you want to provide the best for your friend, you should also be looking to give your best to God. In Bible times, people would honor God by giving the first of their crops to Him. It was a way toexpress thankfulness for His provision. What’s a way you can honor God today and show thankfulness to Him for how He takes care of you?

Give, and it will be given to you; a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over—will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. Luke 6:38

When you look around your school or the mall, you’re reminded people always want the latest and best! People ask for new clothes, technology and games on a regular basis. But God’s Word reminds people that getting shouldn’t be one’s focus. Instead, you should live life with a giving mindset. The Bible even says when you give, God rewards you. It may not be with the coolest new outfit, but rather withpeace and joy. Today, ask God to help you live with a giving mindset!

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

My aunt and uncle used to live in the woods. There were no paved roads and trees surrounded them from every angle but one—the one and only way to get to their front door. That’s the idea Jesus is speaking of in this passage. Jesus declared He is God and there’s no other route to the Father but through Him. Trying to find an alternate path to Jesuswould render me lost, just as if I tried to find adifferent way to my aunt and uncl ’s house. Do you believe Jesus is the only way to heaven? If you do, today would you believe?

He must increase, but I must decrease.

John 3:30

Have you ever been to a concert? Before the main act comes out, there’s an opener to get the crowd excited. Then, the primary performer is welcomed to the stage. Similarly, God sent John the Baptist to help prepare the stage for Jesus. John preached so that people’s hearts would be ready for the Messiah, but he wasn’t there to draw a following for himself. John stayed humble and put Jesus first. Sometimes it s easy to want to be center stage, but that’s not your place. The spotlight is reserved for Jesus, and the more you point others to Him, the less you will be worried about pointing others to yourself.

Did you know the study of tree rings is called dendochronology?

TUESDAY, APRIL 7

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and freedom to the prisoners. Isaiah 61:1

Jesus came to this world with a purpose to heal and to free those trapped in sin. The great news is that His mission was accomplished when He was raised back to life after dying on the cross. As you look forward to this Easter season, think of what Jesus has done for you and thank Him. Saying thank you to Jesus is a good habit to form and a wonderful reminder that, without Him, your life wouldn’t be full of peace, joy and hope.

Then a shoot will grow from the stump of Jesse, and a branch from his roots will bear fruit. Isaiah 11:1

Sometimes in the Bible you find metaphorsthat need a little explaining. This is one of those times. Imagine a mighty tree that’s been cut down. All that’s left is a little stump, then unexpectedly something begins to sprout from its roots! That’s the picture this verse helps paint, and this is what it means. As prophesied, Jesus (the branch) was born from the family of Jesse (the stump) and came to bear much fruit in His life. Jesus didn’t come in a majestic way, as some anticipated. He came from humble beginnings instead. But out of that small beginning, He changed the world in a major way!

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6Friday, April 10, is known as Good Friday. Many churches have services on Friday to recognize the hours Jesus hung on the cross before He died.

“Look, the days are coming”—this is the Lord ’s declaration—“when I will raise up a Righteous Branch for David. He will reign wisely as king and administer justice and righteousness in the land.” Jeremiah 23:5

In the time of Jeremiah, the rulers were not caring for or leading God’s people well. So, God promised that He would send someone else. Someone who would rule with wisdom, justice and righteousness. Someone who would give them hope and security. The people of Israel needed to know this then, and you need to know this now, too. God’s plan was always to send Jesus. Tell God how grateful you are that He sent His only Son.

He was despised and rejected by men, a man of suffering who knew what sickness was. He waslike someone people turned away from; he was despised, and we didn’t value him. Isaiah 53:3

Have you ever had a really bad day or felt alone in your sadness? Isaiah declared Jesus would understand all those emotions because He was overlooked, rejected and alone at times, too. You see, Jesus was completely human, experiencing all of the sufferings and hardships of daily life; butHe was also God, the Creator of the world in which He was walking. So when you are unsure of what to do with your feelings or emotions, take them to Jesus knowing He can understand and help!

SATURDAY, APRIL 11

“See, I am going to send my messenger, and he will clear the way before me. Then the Lord you seek will suddenly come to his temple, the Messenger of the covenant you delight in—see, he is coming,” says the Lord of Armies. Malachi 3:1

This passage of Scripture was recorded in the last book of the Old Testament. For the 400 years that followed, God was silent. There was an expectation that someone was coming, but the wait must have seemed so long. I wonder if people thought God had forgotten His promise. How amazing it must have been when the silence was broken and God declared Jesus was coming—a Savior who would take away the sins of the world!

Love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4:10

There are many ways to express love to others. You can write notes, buy gifts, spend time with them, and help them complete hard tasks. Yet, there really isn’t anything you could do to compare to the powerful expression of love God put on display for you through Jesus. He sent His only Son into the world knowing that one day He would die on a cross. Willingly, He made this sacrifice toprovide a way to forgive people’s sins. This is love. True love. Celebrate today that God loved you so much that He sent Jesus!

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6

1. Christ died for your sins.2. Jesus was buried.3. Jesus rose again three days later.

That Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures. 1 Corinthians 15:3b-4

Sometimes, people overcomplicate the good news of Jesus. In his letter to the Corinthian church, Paul emphasizes the importance of holding firmly to the foundation of on ’s faith, and he shares the three essential markers of the gospel message: Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose again three days later! These three moments in time have forever changed the course of history and hearts. Who is one person you need to share these truths with today? It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3!

When the disciples heard this, they were utterly astonished and asked, “Then who can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:25-26

What did the disciples hear that made them feel utterly astonished? It was Jesus’ words to the rich young ruler explaining salvation. The young ruler wasn’t willing to acknowledge his sin and to love his neighbor as himself. The disciples couldn’t believe that someone prestigious like this man could miss the kingdom of God, and they wanted some answers. Jesus reminded them that entering heaven isn’t based on what you have or what you do. Instead, God made it possible through Jesus and that leaves me utterly astonished, too!

The most destructive river flood in US history was the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. This flood affected states from Louisiana to Illinois.

If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9

Have you ever looked at a math problem, completely stumped at it’s solution, only to have a teacher or friend explain it simply and quickly? That’s how I feel when I read this passage in the Book of Romans. Paul shares in this verse that salvation comes from just two things: confessing and believing. There is no complicated formula, you simply must acknowledge that Jesus is Lord and believe that He rose from the dead. If you’ve been over-complicating the gospel, maybe today is the day you can accept it as a beautiful gift from God.

Therefore, he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, since he always lives to intercede for them. Hebrews 7:25

When my family came home from vacation, we discovered our basement had flooded. e scrambled to get items off the wet floor ansave them. I wiped and dried as best I could, but there were some items that just couldn’t be salvaged. This isn’t so with Jesus. He can take any person, no matter what she’s done or what you’ve said, and save you. No one is beyond His reach. Isn’t that an amazing gift? Take some time today to celebrate that Jesus can completely save anyone!

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6

Did you know studies have found that women apologize more than men? This isn’t because men don’t like to apologize. Research showed women felt the need to apologize for more things than men did.

I'm Sorry.

For Christ also suffered for sins once for all, therighteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring you to God. He was put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit. 1 Peter 3:18

Have you ever apologized over and over because you felt so badly about your actions? Sometimes it feels like this is the only response to make up for a poor choice. That’s what I love most about the story of Jesus. You see, He knew people would make decisions that weren’t always the best; He knew people would sin. So He died for you and me! He did it once and that’s all that was needed. How powerful it is to know that He loves you that much!

For if, while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, then how much more, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life. Romans 5:10

Have you ever wondered how much God really loves you? This verse is a great reminder! While all people were still sinners, God sent His only Son to die for every single sinner. He didn’t wait for you to be cleaned up or perfect. Instead, He saw great value in people, even though people were considered His enemies. By sending His Son to die for those who have sinned, He made a way for people to be friends. This is the greatest expression of love you’ll ever know!

Do you know what the most misplaced item in a home is? The TV remote is reported by almost half of those surveyed to be the most misplaced item. Next is the phone and then keys.

SUNDAY, APRIL 19

For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

I bet you’ve seen this verse before, maybe on an athlete’s wristband or hanging up in a friend’s home. But, have you ever stopped to consider how amazing this verse really is? God loved the WHOLE WORLD—that’s all the people—the good and bad, young and old, rich and poor, you and me—so much that He gave up His only Son to prove it! His love doesn’t depend on what you do or who you are—it’s unconditional. So, the next time you doubt God’s love remember this powerful verse!

He is not here, but he has risen! Remember how he spoke to you when he was still in Galilee.

Luke 24:6

Have you ever walked into your room to pick up something and realized it wasn’t where you left it? Maybe it was a book, your iPad® or your homework. Now imagine that instead of losing something, it was someone! That’s exactly what some women experienced when they went to Jesus’ tomb. When they got there the stone was rolled away and He was gone! They must have been shocked and concerned. Yet, this was the plan all along. Jesus died for your sins, but He defeated them when He rose from the dead. Jesus wasn’t missing! He was alive! Praise God today that Jesus didn’t stay in that tomb!

Did you know most ink pens hold enough ink to write a line four to five kilometers long? On average, an ink pen is estimated to last around seven years.

While we wait for the blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. Titus 2:13

When we bake chocolate chip cookies at our house, the yummy smell that fills the air ma es it hard to wait! My family will watch the clock with excitement knowing that in 12 minutes it will be worth it. In some ways, this makes me think of how we must patiently wait for Jesus to return. You know in the end He will come to make all things new and right and it will be worth it, too! Until then, you can spend your time waiting by sharing His love with others!

For this reason we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe. 1 Timothy 4:10

When you sit down, you hope your chair will hold you. When you grab a pen, you hope the ink hasn’t dried out. Sometimes the chair and pen disappoint, but when you’re talking about putting your hope in the living God, you can do so with confidenc . God does not let people down. He sent His only Son to take on the sin of the world so that you and I may have hope for both today and for the future. How great it is to know where real hope is found!

Did you know the original potato head toy used an actual real potato? It was first named “make a face” and was the first toy to be advertised on network television.

Because the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of the body. Ephesians 5:23

Did you know that the church (people who believe and follow Jesus) is also called a body? Each person plays an important role in the body, but there is only one head and that is Jesus. It reminds me of the toy potato head from my childhood. There are so many parts that you can put on him—eyes, ears, a nose, various hats and funny hands, but there’s just one head. The head, Jesus, is constant and unchanging. I’m glad that He’s the one in charge and the one who never changes!

And we have seen and we testify that the Father has sent his Son as the world’s Savior. 1 John 4:14

You know what is so cool about this verse? It is a reminder that there were eyewitnesses who recorded what they saw about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus! You don’t have to wonder whether you can believe because you didn’t see it for yourselves. Instead, you can learn from those who walked with Jesus, who saw Him perform miracles, who heard Him teach new ways of living and loving and who saw Him alive after being buried in a tomb! These eyewitness accounts are proof that indeed, God sent Jesus to be the Savior of the world!

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6

God made thousands of promises in the Bible. God always fulfills His promises. While friends and family may break promises, God never will!

“From this man’s descendants, as he promised, God brought to Israel the Savior, Jesus. Acts 13:23

Have you ever broken a promise you made to someone, or has someone has broken a promise she made to you? It’s never a good feeling and often leaves you experiencing either guilt or frustration. But God, He never breaks His promises! You can see God’s promises fulfilled over and over again in Scriptur and one of these is the focus of today’s passage. God promised that He would bring a Savior to the world through David’s family, and He did. Isn’t it encouraging to know that you can trust God to keep His Word?

But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you. John 14:26

Jesus told His disciples that when He was gone, God would send a helper. Jesus was talking about the Holy Spirit who would be available to remind the disciples of everything He had taught them. Did you know when you place your trust in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit comes to do the same for you? He helps you and reminds you of the things Jesus taught. I’m so glad that when Jesus left the earth, He didn’t leave people alone. You and I have the Holy Spirit to help guide us until we meet Jesus face-to-face.

CKOne term used for when theme parks are full is capacity constraints. This means the park is not allowing new guests to enter because the large number of people inside of the park.

“Follow me,” he told them, “and I will make you fish for peopl .” Matthew 4:19

Peter and Andrew were fishermen, but whenJesus spoke these words to them He changed their mission. Immediately. They dropped their nets and followed Jesus. No longer were Peter and Andrew just catching fish. Instead, theywould begin casting messages of hope to people, messages that would one day change the world. I imagine it was hard to leave what was familiar, not exactly sure of what was ahead, but following Jesus is always worth it! I’m so glad that Peter and Andrew obeyed Jesus’ instructions. Their obedience helped spread the gospel and inspires you and me to do the same.

Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:38

Have you ever heard of a theme park being so busy they have to turn guests away? Instead of walking through the gates, people have to walk back to their cars. That’s a sad turning away! But when Peter said “Repent,” he was suggesting a good turning away! Rather than walking with one’s head hanging low, you have a chance to turn away from sin and to change the direction of your life! Has there ever been a time when you’ve done this? If not, maybe today is the day!

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6

April 29 is Stop Food Waste Day. Did you know almost half of the crops produced in a year are thrown away? The goal of Stop Food Waste Day is to educate people on ways to dispose in less wasteful ways, such as utilizing the food to feed the poor and hungry.

“When the Counselor comes, the one I will send to you from the Father —the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father—he will testify about me.” John 15:26

Jesus promised the disciples that He would send someone to help them once He was gone. This someone was the Counselor or the Holy Spirit. The disciples would be able to depend on the Holy Spirit to teach them and to help them understand more clearly who Jesus was and what He did. As they learned from the Holy Spirit, the disciples went out to share this same truth about Jesus with others. Let’s be like the disciples and do the same, too!

So he answered me, “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by strength or by might, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord of Armies.” Zechariah 4:6

I like to think I’m in control and can make things happen according to my own desires. But this passage reminds me God’s plans are bigger, and He is the One who is actually in control. Zerubbabel must have found comfort in this truth, too. He was the governor who was going to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem. What a mighty big task! Yet, God declared He wasn’t doing it alone. It would be by God’s Spirit that the work would be accomplished! How good to know God is always in control!

Every Saturday morning after breakfast, my

grandmother would gather my family together for a prayer

service. It was her habit to lead a worship service to God in our backyard. There was a covered area with a table where my grandmother would place her Bible and hymnal. There were a few benches placed in classroom style, were we would wiggle our way into singing hymns, reading the Bible and praying on our knees.

Sometimes, a neighbor or guest would come to prayer meeting. Most times, it was just us kids and “Vó” (grandmother) Maria. One particular Saturday, after all the hymn singing and gospel preaching was done,

my grandmother asked if anyone would like to accept Jesus as her Lord and Savior. I raised my hand. Grandma was surprised. She told me, “You belong to Jesus already.” I persisted, “but I never raised my hand to Him.”

In the Brazilian Christian tradition, at the end of a sermon, people are asked if they want to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. The way to show your decision is to raise your hand.

I grew up in church and I heard the gospel being preached many times. It wasn’t until that Saturday morning that I confessed with my mouth and believed in my heart that Jesus was my Lord and Savior.

What I did all those years ago is called a public confession of faith that Jesus is my Savior.

Some people call it “accepting Jesus into your heart.”

It is important to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. All you need to do is to say, “Jesus, you are my Lord. I believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead. Thank you for saving me. I will see you in heaven one day.”

You can pray this prayer by yourself, with your parents, Sunday School teacher or pastor. When you pray, God listens and Heaven rejoices.
