The Angel Visits Mary and JosephHello! I want to tell you a true story. I hope that you will read every word and think about what I am telling you.

About two thousand years ago, a young carpenter named Joseph lived in Nazareth in the country of Israel. Joseph was from the family of King David.

Joseph was engaged to a young woman named Mary. They were to be married. Mary lived in Nazareth and was from the family of King David, too. Mary was a virgin. God had promised that He would send a Savior, born to a virgin in the family of King David. For many years, the people waited for the Savior to be born.

One day, Mary had a surprise. The Angel Gabriel said, “Do not be afraid, Mary. God loves you. You will have a baby boy, and you are to name Him Jesus. He shall be the Son of God.”

Mary asked, “How can I have a baby? I am a virgin.”

The angel told her, “The Holy Spirit will come to you. The baby will be born holy.”

Mary said, “I am the Lord’s servant and will do whatever He wants.”

Mary and Joseph Go to BethlehemGod had promised a Savior would be born in Bethlehem. Mary and Joseph did not live in Bethlehem. A rule was made that everyone had to return to his family’s town to be taxed. Mary and Joseph were from King David’s family and had to go to Bethlehem to be taxed.

In Bethlehem, Mary had her baby. He was born in a stable because they could find no room to rent. They had no bed for the baby, so they laid him in a manger.

Mary and Joseph were so happy. They named the baby Jesus just like God had told them.

Shepherds were watching their sheep in a field near Bethlehem. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared in a bright light. The shepherds were afraid.

The angel told the shepherds, “Don’t be afraid. I bring good news for the world. The Savior, Christ the Lord, has been born. You will find Him in a manger.” Many angels were singing and praising God. The shepherds wanted to see the Savior. They went into Bethlehem. They found Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus in the stable. The shepherds were so happy. They went out and told others about the baby Jesus.
