En materia de ce'lebración equívoca de la democracia, el ciclo electoral francés que acaba de fi nalizar no es ta.n burlesco como estos dos ejemplos. Pero se acerca. Al principio, unas primarias muy seguidas designaron a los candidatos de los dos partidos principales. Pero ambos fueron eliminados desde la primera vuelta por Emmanuel Macron, quien supo combinar palabras vacías, bellas imágenes y un sólido apoyo de los medios de comunicación. Puesto que los electores le otorgaron como rival para la segunda vuelta a una candidata de extrema derecha detestada por dos terceras partes de los franceses, su triunfo final estaba asegurado. Solo quedaba adjuntar al nuevo presidente, para "permitirle gobernar", una mayoría de diputados ampliamente desconocidos pero provenientes de las clases superiores (cero obreros, cuarenta y seis empresarios) y que se lo deberán todo. Milagro de los modos de escrutinio, la política neoliberal encamada por Macron solo obtuvo el aval del 44,02% de los sufragios emitid~s durante la primera vuelta de las elecciones presidenciales (1). En la Asamblea podrá contar con cerca del 90% de los diputados (2).
En la historia del sufragio universal en Francia, nunca unas elecciones legislativas habían movilizado tan poco (más de l 57% de abstenciones frente al 16% en 1978 ... ). Este lamentable resultado, al estilo estadounidense, cierra una campaña nacional casi ausente, marcada por "casos" a menudo secundarios. Unos "Watergate de pequeño calibre" que los medios de comunicaci6n difunden hasta la saciedad como para resarcirse por haber servido de trampolín al nuevo pres idente. Cuando las cuestiones políticas planteadas se limitan a un inventario comparado de las transgresiones personales de los represen'tan tes electos (3), ¿debemos extrañamos de que haya tantos recién llegados entre los diputados, en última instancia dispues tos a desempolvar las apariencias menos relucientes del sistema, pero' poco propensos a criticar las decisiones económicas estratégicas, las cuales abandonan en manos del Ejecutivo y de la Comisión Europea?
