The Big Data Innovation Summit brings together thought-leaders from the industry for an event acclaimed for its interactive sessions and high-level speakers. As many organizat ions are now work ing with unmanageably large data sets, the importance of using and maintaining an analytics platform which can cope with this scale of information is essential. This presents both a challenge and opportunity as organizations must identify patterns and gain actionable results in order to gain a crucial advantage over competitors. I l lustrated

intermittently with case studies, interactive panel sessions and deep-dive discussions, this summit offers solutions and insight from the leaders operating in the Big Data space. Big Data Innovation will help your business understand & utilize data-driven strategies and discover what disciplines will change because of the advent of data. With a vast amount of data now available, modern businesses are faced with the challenge of storage, management, analysis, visualization, security and disruptive tools & technologies.

Yun is senior director of PPLive who is in charge of PPCloud, the infrastructure of one of the largest online video services serving hundreds of millions video views every day. Before PPLive, he worked in Alibaba building mega scale distributed system supporting data mining, search, risk analysis, and cloud hosting for the largest E-commerce platform in China. Before that, Yun worked in Microsoft's U.S headquarter on various projects. Most notely, Yun was owner of .Net's Garbage Collector and has helped build the world's 10th fastest super computer in 2008. Yun holds Master's degree from DePaul University and Bachelor's degree from Tsinghua University.

Making Big Data Work in the Online Video Industry

PPTV runs one of the world's largest online video services. Hundreds of millions of active users all over the world spend 200 minutes daily on the platform on average. The platform generates tens of Tera bytes of user behavior data and system logs.

In this presentation, Yun Jin will introduce PPTV's challenge to make the business use of the data, the experience to build a large scale distributed system to process those data, the practice to mine the data for Business Intelligence analysis, guidance for business operations, build recommendation engine and advertisement targeting system, and Quality of Service optimization. Yun will also talk about the problems PPTV is still facing in large data area, and discuss directions to solve those problems.

Qiang Yang is the head of Huawei Noah's Ark Research Lab and a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His research interests are data mining and artificial intelligence, including transfer learning, planning and activity recognition. He is a fellow of AAAI, IEEE, IAPR and AAAS, and ACM Distinguished Scientist. He has been an invited speaker and conference organizer in several top international conferences on artificial intelligence and big data, and is an editor in chief in several international journals.  He has published three books and over three hundred articles on these topics.

User Modeling in Social Media and Big Data

The ever-growing social networks and social media provide invaluable sources of information for modeling the behavior of users. High-quality user models enable superior services and functions for end users. In this talk, I will present several examples of user modeling based on social networks and social media. I will describe our research in modeling users' information preferences on Microblogs using a novel user message model and discuss our work on extracting users' daily activities, such as dining and shopping, that inherently reflect their habits, intents and preferences. I explain our novel transfer learning solution via a collaborative boosting framework comprising a text-to-activity classifier for socially connected users. I will also describe our research on user modeling in multiple, overlapping social networks in a “composite social network” setting. Finally, I will explain our research on finding social spammers in large social networks.

Darren joined Space Matrix Group in 2011 to provide strategic leadership to   the group’s companies. He is a business-driven, entrepreneurial board level executive with demonstrated experience in planning, developing, and   implementing innovative information and design technology solutions to   address business opportunities and growth in highly creative and design oriented settings. A thought leader in the building design industry for   knowledge management and information technology, he posses solid   technical training, team coaching, project management and is a customer   service expert with a strong ability to connect with non-technical users.Darren holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Carnegie Mellon University.

Big Data, Big BIM, Big Deal

In his presentation, Big Data, Big BIM, Big Deal, Darren will explore the  opportunities for innovation in building design and construction and facilities   management through the utilization of big data and building information   modeling (BIM). The potential for understanding the finite information in a   building during design & construction transfers directly to the finite   information in a building during operation. This data set provides ongoing understanding of the building / facility’s performance including energy, carbon   footprint, building safety, space utilization, ongoing maintenance and all   mapped to time and money. Building design has always involved large   quantities of data, however now with big data and BIM, we are poised to access, analyze and act upon it as a whole.

The Role of the Creative in Data Analysis

The power of big data can truly be harnessed if one is able to take risks, question norms, and push the boundaries in organisations of any size. Innovation and the revenue gains that can follow are possible only if the right environment is cultivated and debate encouraged. This talk will bring the audience through the building blocks of such an environment, and explore some examples in the travel industry where the fruits of such innovative thinking are particularly evident.

Big Data and Analytics in Healthcare: Use Cases, Opportunities and Challenges

In the healthcare industry, we are usually behind in adopting new technology and so it is the case with Big Data. Having said that, the healthcare industry is an industry where Big Data will enable added-value from the data. In the healthcare industry, data can come from many different systems and sources, such as HIS (Hospital Information System), LIS (Laboratory Information System), EHR (Electronic Health Record), EMR (Electronic Medical Record), RIS (Radiology Information System), genetics information and population data. This data can be in an unstructured, semi-structured or structured format. Simultaneously, some data is generated in real time and has to be analyzed in real time as it becomes a matter of life and death.

The presentation aims to share the use cases, potential opportunities and the challenges that the healthcare industry faces in this Big Data era.
