Jewell Loyd, Notre Dame Fr., G (Lincolnwood, Ill.) Smith averaged 21.0 ppg and 9.5 rpg in a 2-0 week for St. John’s. In two games, she totaled seven assists, eight blocks and eight steals. She had 21 points, eight rebounds, four steals, three blocks and five assists in a win against Iona on Nov. 21. At Hartford on Nov. 25, she had 21 points, shooting 56 percent from the field. Smith also added 11 rebounds, four steals and a career-high five blocks in the win. Smith leads the league in rebounding (11.5 rpg) and is second in scoring (20.8 ppg). Loyd averaged a team-high 19.0 ppg for Notre Dame. She averaged 6.5 rpg, 5.0 apg, and 2.0 spg, while shooting 73 percent in a 2-0 week that saw Notre Dame win at No. 19/22 UCLA. She also shot 60 percent from 3-point range. Her performance against the Bruins was highlighted by three baskets in a 47-second span that punctuated a 15-2 ND run, giving the Irish the lead for good against a top-25 opponent. Against UCLA, she led the Irish with 19 points, connecting on 8-of-12, pulling down seven rebounds and grabbing five assists. Dayeesha Hollins, Cincinnati, R-Jr., G Hollins averaged 19.0 ppg and 6.5 rpg in a 2-0 week for the Bearcats. She had 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals at Kent State before chipping in 23 points against Charleston. Breanna Stewart, Connecticut, Fr., F Stewart averaged 19.0 ppg, 6.7 rpg and blocked seven shots in a 3-0 week for Connecticut. The Huskies won the Paradise Jam with a victory over No. 12/14 Purdue, led by Stewart’s 17 points. Stewart was named the tournament MVP. Sugar Rodgers, Georgetown, Sr., G Rodgers averaged 19.7 ppg and 7.3 rpg, dishing out nine assists and grabbing seven steals in a 2-1 week for the Hoyas. Andrea Smith, USF, Sr., G Smith averaged 21.5 ppg and 6.0 rpg in a 2-0 week for USF. She shot 48.5 percent from the field and 57 percent from 3-point range. Kayla Alexander, Syracuse, Sr., C Alexander helped the Orange in a 3-0 week against opponents all receiving votes in the AP Poll. She averaged 17.3 ppg, 6.0 rpg, blocked 16 shots and shot 56 percent. Smith averaged 21.0 ppg and 9.5 rpg in a 2-0 week for St. John’s. In two games, she totaled seven assists, eight blocks and eight

steals. She had 21 points, eight rebounds, four steals, three blocks and five assists in a win against Iona on Nov. 21. At Hartford on Nov. 25, she had 21 points, shooting 56 percent from the field. Smith also added 11 rebounds, four steals and a career-high five blocks in the win. Smith leads the league in rebounding (11.5 rpg) and is second in scoring (20.8 ppg).

Weekly AwardsThe BIG EAST names a Player and Freshman of the Week, as well as five Honor Roll selections, each Monday during the regular season. Winners are chosen from nominations provided by the BIG EAST sports information directors. The information will be released from the BIG EAST office and will be listed in the conference release and on the league web site.

Annual AwardsThe All-BIG EAST First, Second, Honorable Mention and Freshman Teams, Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Coach of the Year are chosen from a vote of the league’s 16 head coaches at the conclusion of the regular season. A Most Improved Player, a Sixth-Man Award, a Women’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete and a Sportsmanship Award winner are also selected. Coaches are not allowed to vote for themselves or their own players. The awards will be announced prior to the BIG EAST Championship start on March 2 through an email release from the Conference office.

The BIG EAST Conference and XOS Digital, Inc., a leader in digital sports media, jointly announced a new partnership on July 1, 2010 resulting in an overhaul to the conference’s official website www.bigeast.org. The BIG EAST Conference’s re-launched site resides on a robust content management system that allows the site to be completely customized on the fly. The new site features a cutting-edge online video platform, a sleek new design, simplified navigation and a newly developed conference-wide regular season and postseason live statistics platform.

The conference’s online video platform will retain its BIGEAST.tv branding, with fans driven to that URL to consume all of the conference’s live online and on-demand video offerings. Those offerings will now include new on-demand programming in the form of webisodes and vignettes produced in XOS Digital’s production facility. BIGEAST.tv also will feature highlights of every nationally televised BIG EAST contest posted following the conclusion of every game and other on-demand interviews and features. In addition, fans can access BIGEAST.tv for live streaming of certain conference championships, which will be offered free to consumers. The BIG EAST Web site will continue to be the exclusive home for women’s basketball “Championship Central,” which is a one-stop shop for conference tournament live stats, blogs, results, box scores, recaps, photo galleries, video highlights and more.

The BIG EAST will welcome all 15 teams to the 2013 BIG EAST Women’s Basketball Championship Presented by American Eagle Outfitters. The winner of the tournament earns the conference’s automatic NCAA tournament bid. All games will be played at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn.

For the second-straight year, Notre Dame’s Skylar Diggins was selected as the BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year by league head coaches. Diggins also was a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Diggins helped lead her team to 15 league wins last season as the Irish won their first outright BIG EAST regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the 2012 BIG EAST Championship presented by American Eagle Outfitters. She averaged 17.8 points per game in conference play.

UConn freshman Breanna Stewart was chosen as the BIG EAST Preseason Freshman of the Year. Stewart also was honored as the national player of the Year by Gatorade, USA Today, Parade Magazine, McDonald’s (Morgan Wootten Player of the Year Award), the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and the Naismith Trophy following the 2011-12 season. She was named to the 2012 USA Basketball U18 National Team. Stewart was the youngest member of the 2011 USA Pan American Games Team, becoming just the second high school player to compete for Team USA in the Pan Am Games.

Seven BIG EAST WBB Stars Named to Wade Watch ListSeven BIG EAST women’s basketball players have been named to the 2012-13 Wade Watch list for the State Farm Wade Trophy, as announced by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). The prestigious award is presented annually to the NCAA Division I Player of the Year by the National Association of Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS) and the WBCA. The BIG EAST placed seven players on the preseason list, followed by the Big Ten and Big 12 with five each, the ACC with three, the SEC with two, and the CAA, Ohio Valley and Pac-12 conferences with one each.

The BIG EAST has captured three of the last four Wade Trophies, with UConn’s Maya Moore winning in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Historically, the conference has won eight Wade Trophies with Villanova’s Shelly Pennefather winning in 1987, and Connecticut winning in 1995 with Rebecca Lobo, 1996 with Jennifer Rizzotti, 2002 with Sue Bird, 2003 with Diana Taurasi, and 2009-2011 with Moore.

The 2013 State Farm Wade Trophy winner will be announced during the WBCA National Convention, which will be held in conjunction with the 2013 NCAA Women’s Final Four in New Orleans.

National ChampionshipsThe Conference has won eight national championships in the last 16 years (1995, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010), including five straight between 2000-04 – a feat no other conference has accomplished. The BIG EAST has won seven national titles in the last 13 years, in which Connecticut and Notre Dame each brought home the championship. The BIG EAST has sent a total of 20 teams to the Final Four.

BIG EAST and Its Television PartnersTelevision opportunities – nationally, regionally and locally in major metropolitan media markets – have continued to expand for BIG EAST Women’s Basketball. The league continues to have one of the top television schedules in women’s basketball on the national, regional and local levels. All 15 Conference teams were included in the regular-season broadcasts on either ESPN/ESPN2, ESPNU, CBS Sports Network or BIG EAST Regional Sports Network for the sixth-straight year. Also for the sixth-consecutive year, the BIG EAST Game of the Week was televised over eight consecutive Saturdays.
