There are set places within the Big Splash site where alcohol is allowed to be consumed, please look out for the signs. Why not beat the queue? Download your free Orderella app and pre-order your drinks and pick them up from our Big Splash bar! Ask staff for more details.

All information was correct at time of going to print, The Riverfront and the Big Splash reserve the right to alter events, process or locations or cancel events if necessary.

Many of the Big Splash events are free but some charges apply on funfair rides, activities at Parklife and some workshops. The theatre shows and cinema screenings will also be charged at £1.50 per ticket. Tickets can be booked from The Riverfront Box Office, Kingsway, Newport NP20 1HG.

Powerfully physical, emotionally charged and extraordinary, Captive is a dazzling blend of dance and aerial work. In order to survive, the environment is constantly transformed though physical ingenuity. Pacing the cage and tumbling through a world turned upside down, which way is up as our cell of confinement gets turned on its head?

BIG SPLASH COMMUNITY STAGESAtURDAY 12–7PM / FRee / ReD WAVe The Red Wave Stage will have numerous community groups performing live on stage including Gwent Music, Serennu Youth Club, a showcase by the regular Riverfront Workshops and much more!

SIENTA LA CABEZASAtURDAY 2–5PM / FRee / eNtRANce tO tHe RIVeRFRONtAn artistic hairdressing show with a musical groove. The Catalan Hairdresser group from Barcelona takes an eccentric and colourful beauty salon onstage, where creation and fantasy have no limit. With two hairdressers and a DJ, the show recycles and transforms quotidian things into unique objects that give the final touch to the stunning head sculptures created live on the more daring members of the public. Literally a show that will make your hair stand on end, this is for you to see, hear, and try… if you dare!

MR & MRS CLARK: THE BIG DANCE SHOWSAtURDAY 7.30–8.30PM / £1.50 PeR tIcket / INSIDe tHe RIVeRFRONt The Mr and Mrs Clark BIG DANCE SHOW is a festival favourite that involves the audience. The Clark’s work with selected contestants to help them to dance in a truly unique fashion after a series of demonstrations and bonding exercises. Think Strictly Come Dancing meets Britain’s Got Talent and then add that particular Mr and Mrs Clark twist of physical comedy for a show that is both great to watch and fun to partake in. The outcome is one of pure joy as the selected couples compete for the ultimate title of the BIG DANCE SHOW Champions.

SUNSET SPECTACULARSAtURDAY 9.30PM / FRee / ReD WAVe The Riverfront, Citrus Arts, Alchemy Fireworks, Sinfonia Cymru and Lady Leshurr will be combining forces to create this year’s Spectacular. Expect hula hoops, trapeze, pyrotechnics, dance, fireworks, hip hop and classical music. Performers will include Tin Shed Theatre, Hoop La La, Kitsch n Sync and a range of circus performers. Newport will once again be rocked with a dramatic firework finale.

The best viewing points will be around the Red Wave and up along the riverbank around the outside of The Riverfront building.

SESSIONS TAKEOVERSUNDAY 12–5PM / FRee / cAFÉ teRRAce Boutique, vintage, craft and jewellery stalls in the foyer with live music on the Café Terrace featuring acoustic local acts and the Big Mac’s Wholly Soul Band finishing off the day.

BACKSTAGE TOURSUNDAY 12PM, 2PM, 4PM / FRee / INSIDe tHe RIVeRFRONt Guided backstage tours of the main theatre and lighting decks of The Riverfront Theatre.

Fun along the river banks for all to see from the Red Wave to the Alacrity building

You can catch some of the fantastic International Street Theatre artists along the riverbanks of the River Usk and in Newport City Centre on Saturday.

BALLOONATICSAtURDAY 12PM, 2.30PM & 5PM / FRee

Balloon modellers with a twist. Balloonatic will be decorating you with incredible hats, giant costumes and hilarious balloon toys.

THE WEIRDY BEARDIESSAtURDAY 12.15PM, 2PM & 3.30PM / FRee A playful and unusual act who bring their unique brand of dance, comedy and furry mayhem to everyday public spaces. Pestiferous bring audiences and performers together – from all walks of life – for unique experiences that are uplifting, surreal, curious and joyful.

DODOSSAtURDAY 12.30PM, 1.30PM & 4PM / FRee

Despite all the odds, an unknown subspecies of the dodo has been discovered! Much larger than their extinct cousins and able to fly (sort of), Charles and Amelia, two relics of

a bygone era, are very excited to be travelling the world to see what they’ve been missing.

THINGAMABOBSAtURDAY 12.45PM & 3PM / FRee Combining circus, invention and comedy, this show brings a mesmerising piece of gadgetry to life. PanGottic will captivate you with his wit and charm and you will become part of the machine yourselves and a wonderful chain reaction!

AJ JAMESSAtURDAY 12.45PM & 3PM / FRee While Knife juggling on a balance board and a timed escape from chains he has the audience holding their breath one minute and laughing hysterically the next.

RAMBLING ONSAtURDAY 1PM, 3PM & 4.30PM / FRee

Carrying rucksacks that swing open into small puppet sets and many other surprises and delights, our wanderers will amuse all with the general buffoonery of being lost, overloaded

and without a clue and then amaze and enthral with their innovative and unexpected puppetry, physical theatre and storytelling.

GARAGHTY AND THOMSAtURDAY 1.30PM AND 3.45PM / FRee Richard Garaghty and Goronwy Thom have entertained thousands of diverse audiences across the world in many different guises. Come and be amazed by their high energy, high skilled spectacular.

SKATE NAKEDSAtURDAY 1.30PM & 3.45PM / FRee Entertaining street stunt performers with an element of danger, who don’t wear many clothes.

DARRYL J CARRINGTONSAtURDAY 2PM / FRee Darryl J Carrington’s street show is an exciting blend of high level circus, magic, comedy and audience participation. Anyone can be the star of this show, even a carrier bag!

HAZEL & HENRYSAtURDAY 2.15PM & 4.30PM / FRee

Hazel and Henry are a fun comedy and circus double act, who entertain the crowds with their daring and hilarious stunts.

ALICE ALLARTSAtURDAY 2.30PM & 4.30PM / FRee Alice is an expert trick cyclist who will wow you with her bold stunts.

CHRIS RIDGEWAYFRIDAY 9PM / FRee / cAFÉ teRRAceChris writes and performs with a rare intensity, his music carries within it a powerful rawness of emotion and his lyrics speak of the human experience with an empathetic instinct.

ROGORA KHARTFRIDAY 10PM / FRee / cAFÉ teRRAceWith a bizarre blend of frenzied, break neck punk they make an entertainment explosion of joyous musical and visual delight.

DANIELLE LEWISSAtURDAY 1PM / FRee / cAFÉ teRRAceDanielle Lewis is a 21 year old acoustic folk/pop singer songwriter from New Quay, West Wales.

5vs5 BBOY: Teams across the country will be invited for a UK region 5 on 5 battle with a £500 cash prize for winning crew.

ROCKIN STAR QUALIFIER: A 2 on 2 qualifier battle for the Rockin Star Competition in Russia. Winners will be flown free to St. Petersburg for the FINALS.

Judges are: ABE (USA), ONE SHOT (RUSSIA), JUNIOR (SPAIN), DJ JAFFA (WALES) and DJ KHAN FU. Host will be CAPTAIN SUGA RUSH.

URBAN EDGE

The Newport Centre will celebrate local talent, showcase urban arts and offer two dance competitions with great prizes!
