- Includes MS Word document of Appendix B revised using “Track Changes” and “Insert Comment” features

Proposed ballot items were developed by a working group established at New Orleans meeting

Have since been distributed to Maintenance Welding sub-committee members

No comments were received- Ready for discussion

Proposed Revisions Pertaining to Various Technical Issues

Proposed revisions include:- Clarify the definition of in-service weld as being welds that include fusion into the carrier pipe- Heat input ranges for each layer to be specified for procedures using temper bead- Procedures that rely on tempering and weld deposition sequence should include tolerance

for bead spacing to assure tempering- Carbon equivalent for pipe and attachments is an essential variable

- For in-service fillet welds, SMYS is not an essential variable- For non-fillet welds, the completed weld should meet or exceed the SMYS of the pipe.

- A change in the bead spacing beyond the limits specified in the WPS constitutes an essential variable

- Determine the maximum hardness of the coarse grained HAZ of the pipe and attachment- For temper bead procedures, include requirement for welder to demonstrate the ability to

make welds within the specified heat input range

Proposed Revisions to Incorporate Weld Deposition Repair

Weld deposition repair is a useful pipeline repair technique for applications where repair by welded full-encirclement sleeves and fiber reinforced composites is difficult or impossible, such as corrosion-caused loss of wall thickness in bend section, elbows, and tees

The use of this technique is addressed in ASME B31.4, ASME B31.8, CSA Z662, and ASME PCC-2

Proposed revisions include:- Procedure and welder qualification

- Essential variables- What test welds need to be made- How many test specimens need to be extracted- What tests the specimens should be subjected to

- Suggested in-service welding practices for weld deposition repair

Letter ballot consists of MS Word document using “Track Changes” and “Insert Comment” features
