and later ran unopposed for state attorney general in 1976.
Elected Governor of Arkansas in 1978In 1992, Clinton and his running mate,
Senator Al Gore, were elected President and Vice President with 43% of population votes.

There are many styles of leadership, and there are people who may possess only one or many leadership styles.
Clinton believed that leadership is more of a state of mind than a place in hierarchy.
He had a vision of bringing in the people of America together.
PARTICIPATIVE LEADER
Bill Clinton was a democratic leader, and his leadership style follows that of Y-Trait, in accordance to McGregor’s X & Y theory of leadership.
The only president to have asked opinion of the Members of the Congress beforehand.
Being people oriented, he was able to influence and empower people working with him.
CHARISMATIC LEADER
Defined as:
“The effects that a leader had on followers and on the
relationship between leaders and followers” (Lussier, 2004)
Clinton was able to influence and persuade people to perceive things from his point of view.
His interest in the people and his efforts to establish connection with them, has aided him to captivate and motivate the people.
TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADER
Defined as:
“A leader who serves to change the status quo by articulating to the
followers the problems in the current system and compelling
vision of what a new organisation could be” (Lussier, 2004)
Provided a vision through making promises to the people.
Lead the nation not by words but by action. Gained respect and trust through his actions to
create a change.
TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADER
Envisioned administration that reflected the demographics of the nation.
Created diversity within the oval office.Surrounded himself with people with wide range
of experience, who were able to offer different perspective from his own.
Created equal rights for women, and appointed them to leadership roles. This helped in setting the stage for equal distribution of talent in
the future administration
SITUATIONAL LEADER
Being a president, it is crucially important to have situational leadership style. Need to be flexible when making decisions in controversial
times and different situations.
Clinton was a team player, which made it difficult at times.
During 1994 US invasion of Haiti, he took the matters into his own hands, to push the date of invasion by 24 hours.

Clinton believes that he is able to control his fate and that his behaviour can affect his performance.
