What language is used on billboards

In many billboard adverts there has to be simple words explaining about their product. In many billboards I have studied I have seen that there is normally a phrase over the top of the image. If this is the case I need to look long and hard into what information has to be in my advert. The content also needs to be suitable for my target audience.

Example One

Here we can see the opening phrase and this is to get the audience hooked in.

In every billboard advertisement there is a sections of small print which is where you find the complicated information which is the terms and condition.

This is a website.

Better value then sky, BT and Virgin. This is also a device that helps hook people into the advert.

What about the Image?

Well when you think about the image you need to make sure that it is big and relates to the information in the advert. In the example on the next slide their is a bill board from sky about the Olympics.

Example Two

There is one giant image on the billboard and it is used to explain the advert.

Here is the opening phrase and it is very short and simple.

Here is the logo for this particular advertisement.Here is another slogan

which adds to the advert.

Here is the website which is a code and convention of billboard adverts.Here we can see the same company

name under the advert in example one, so this must mean that these companies have to go through this company to advertise

Why is this billboard set out like this?

When you look at the example I just showed you can see that there is hardly any writing. In this advertisement it is more about the picture. The picture is of some athletes running and this gives the connotations of sports. Although there is a lack of words the audience get the message through the image and this gets them to watch the Olympics with sky.

Key things to remember.

Your bill board can not be too dull otherwise the audience will not get hooked on it.

There needs to be colours and this helps the advert to get noticed.

The font has to be large so somebody can read it. (The small print does no have to be in large font).
