CLASS NEWS

Year K/1/2 News - Mrs E McCloy K/1/2 have been busy working on fractions this week and last week. We are learning about parts of a whole, and parts of a collection. With Ms Wheen we were able to extend what we learnt by using the iPads to create videos using live drawings and audio where we explained our fractions. Some clever K/1/2's even identified equivalent fractions such as 4/8 being equal to 1/2! Our L3 reading rotations have been going well with our students taking care to complete their must do activities before they move onto their 'can dos'. Kids News is one of our must do activities. Students go to our Google Classroom to read a news article written especially for kids. They then complete their comprehension questions on a Google form and submit electronically to the teacher. It is a challenging task yet they are all doing incredibly well. We have also used the computers to create acrostic poems and this week

She is a woman who demonstrates great integrity and professional-ism and is held in high regard by all who know her. In everything she does, she endeavours to make the lives of the teaching staff easier. She will redirect her attention from the task at hand to attend to students, help her colleagues or assist parents and community members. She epitomises the core views of public education - excellence, equity, trustworthiness, integrity, accountability and service. We feel very blessed to have Mrs Chapman at Bilpin and wish to acknowledge her unwavering commitment to our school, the broader community and the Department of Education. Congratulations Mrs Chapman! You are truly deserving of this award!

Stage 2 Camp to Yarramundi YMCA Stage 2, Mr Hynds and I will be on camp for the next 2 days. Students will participate in a range of activities that will require stamina, coordination and teamwork. Students will experience rock climbing, the giant swing, the flying fox and low ropes. For the night activity we will sit around the campfire and enjoy cooking marshmallows and sharing stories. We will be posting photos throughout the camp. We a looking forward to an action packed two days.

Twilight Excursion at Grose View Public School On Thursday 14th June, the Think Blast students attended a Twilight Excursion at Grose View Public School. The students listened to presentations from the experts from Brewongle and Longneck Lagoon Environmental Education Centres, teaching the students about observing and collecting data on native fauna in our local environments. The students then took a tour of the nature area at Grose View and looked for nocturnal animals. Unfortunately all they could spot were a few kookaburras perching in a tree! We kindly thank the staff at GVPS for hosting us for such a worthwhile event.

Stage 3 Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition at Grose View Public School On Wednesday 20th June, Alana Year 6 and Ariarn Year 5, will be representing our school at the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition at Grose View Public School. Both girls will be presenting the topic 'Welcome to our Place'.

are using the chart function of Excel to turn our data into graphs. Our K/1/2 students are reading at a ferocious rate! They are devouring books and that is fantastic! The key message for this week is to let them make a mistake and read on a bit before bringing their attention the error. This is because we want K/1/2 to: 1. identify their own errors 2. then fix them. When they realise they have made a mistake they will pause. This is a great reading behaviour and should be praised! It means that they have noticed that the word didn't make sense and proves that they are not just decoding text but reading for meaning. Which is the ultimate goal of reading. After our staff completed their first round of TEN (Targeting Early Numeracy) training a couple of weeks ago K/1/2 have been putting into practice our differentiated numeracy activities. These activities are played as a game. There is lots of discussion and decisions to be made but that is how maths should be, vibrant and exciting! Just a small note re canteen money. If possible please send money in a small labelled wallet that can be zipped up in lunch bags. We have had a few students bringing money in plastic zip lock bags and they are becoming confused over who owns what. Enjoy the rest of your week!

Year 3/4 Class News - Mrs M Mackie Camp: The students and I are really looking forward to camp this week! It will be a great opportunity for the students to build relationships in a non-school setting. YMCA camps allow for many opportunities for team building experiences and personal goal setting. Students will write about their experiences on their return with their recounts featuring in the last newsletter for the term. Homework: This week Homework will be due on Friday of this week due to camp. The homework that will be sent home on Friday will be the last for the term so that the students can concentrate on their assignments. Interviews: As mentioned in the first part of the newsletter, if you wish to meet with me before interviews in the last week of school, please contact the office to make an appointment.

Year 5/6 News - Mr A Hynds We were happy to have Mrs Oram visit us yesterday to talk to us about the TEN Maths Program and complete activities with our class. Each day as part of our maths we will be completing 20 minutes of these introductory group tasks.

Term 2 Week 8 Tuesday 19th June 2018

Mrs Carroll will be taking Years 5/6 on Tuesday and Miss Wheen will be on Years 5/6 class Wednesday while I am on camp with our Year 3 /4 students at

Yarramundi.

PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning) Focus

PBL Focus for Week 8

Over the next two weeks we will be focusing on how to work at our desks in a safe and respectful way. We know the importance of sitting on our chairs properly with all four legs of the chair on the floor. We should also try hard to remain on task and not distract others. Taking pride in our work shows everyone that we care about ourselves and our learning.
